24.01.2022 Up next: Dr Siautu Alefaio-Tugia Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Massey University (NZ). Dr Siautu has worked across education, prisons, disaster recovery (including being a lead in the COVID-19 response in NZ), health, social services and community. A practitioner and academic, she theorises and practices to re-inform psychology from Pacific-indigenous knowledge frameworks. One interesting point to note from our chat is that Dr Siautu says that the field of ps...ychology is a relatively young science; it was started and formed in Europe and then taken up in America. Therefore, Pasifika worldviews did not inform the large body of work early on and Pasifika people should be aware of this and what it means for us Make sure you tune in to hear why Dr Siautu says this is important in this fun yet critical conversation with someone whose work focuses on the brain , but who so obviously leads with her heart , spirit and culture in mind. Episode drops: Thursday 8am (AEST) #CultureCounts #PacificPsychology #NIUPatCH #MasseyUniversity #DrSiautuAlefaioTugia #Polypodcasts #Pasifika #Polynesia #Micronesia #Melanesia #Samoa #GPSP #Proud
