25.01.2022 Wow! Doesn’t this picture speak a thousand words? The man on the left is Michael, who has been experiencing homelessness and sleeping in his car for quite sometime! The man on the right is Sergeant Nathan from Sunshine Police Station in Victoria. Sergeant Nathan has been trying to help Michael to get housing through various organisations, however it has proven to be a long & hard process due to Michael having 3 dogs! While Sergeant Nathan is still helping to assist Micha...el, he thought it would be a great idea to give him a Good Box! He chose a winter box due to the cold winter in Victoria We will be supplying more boxes to Sunshine Police Station to give to those experiencing homelessness in the area. It is certainly tough to experience homelessness but even tougher during a pandemic. Michael isn’t the first person experiencing homelessness to struggle to get housing with pets. There are more organisations now who are working hard to assist those with pets and we will be introducing a Pets Box soon, so watch this space! I saw Maddy & Gali speak on The Project and instantly wanted to help. I am so happy to be part of a passionate team tackling misconceptions of those experiencing homelessness. If you are one of the lucky ones in our world where life has been fair, take the time to connect with someone who perhaps hasn’t been so lucky. Look ...someone in the eye, smile, wave, start a conversation, perhaps give them a Good Box? Everyone deserves to be seen and the chance to share their store without judgement. 20.01.2022 Let’s get real about periods, and period poverty. Over one million people in Australia are affected by period poverty each month. Read. That. Again. ONE MILLION. Is your mind blown?... An area of stigma and shame for every person who has to experience it, and for those experiencing homelessness on top of it, having their period arrive every month with no other way but to wrap up some toilet paper or clothing to deal with it is debilitating. When we started looking into creating The YouBeauty Box, this was one of the main aspects we wanted to address. Because, whilst it may be a crazy thing to think of, but having a solid, ongoing collection of sanitary products to deal with our periods is a luxury. That’s why we were immensely honoured to partner up with the wonderful team at @modibodi who have supplied our boxes with period underwear, designed specifically to help women experiencing homelessness not have to stress about their periods, or live with the shame of a natural part of life. So big, BIG thumbs up to our friends at Modibodi, thank you SO much for coming on board! 19.01.2022 Our friend Patrick, who is illustrated our Blokes Box, is a father. He also experienced homelessness as a father for a very long time. In fact, 58% of people experiencing homelessness are men and single fathers are the most underrepresented in this group All Blokes Boxes purchased up until Father’s Day will be handed to men and dads in need. Our Blokes Boxes have items inside that have been chosen by men experiencing homelessness so that we can make sure they are getti...ng what they need and want. 18.01.2022 This is a note written from a year 8 student at @mountscopusmemorialcollege The students all participated in a virtual engagement program where they learnt more about homelessness and got to write notes for those in need. Homelessness is multifaceted and has many different forms, therefore it’s important we are reaching as many different charities as possible to connect with these individuals. 14.01.2022 Yesterday we had a group from @mylanpharmaceuticals come join us at @orangeskyau HQ to pack some boxes, talk about the importance of conversation and learn more about homelessness. Today is @ruokday & it’s an important day that highlights the value of conversation. A conversation is life changing! You can ask many of our friends who have experienced homelessness and they’ll tell you the same thing. Many lives have been changed by the simple words are you okay?. Yesterday ...we all wrote notes for those experiencing homelessness & it was an important reminder that we are here and we care. As we always say, it just takes one small moment to change a life . 12.01.2022 Let’s Talk About Sex Baby Many people ask us why we supply condoms in our Gals & Blokes boxes. Real talk! When we first started this journey 3 years ago, we met real people experiencing homelessness first-hand and asked them What is an item you really need, but don’t have easy access to?... Condoms! People that experience homelessness can be intimate just like everyone else, and it’s important for all couples to practise safe sex! Condoms are expensive and often aren’t looked at as priorities for people experiencing homelessness. But as we learnt from our friends, providing access to safe sexual health is certainly a priority! 11.01.2022 We'd like to introduce you to our smiley friend Marley! Owned and loved by John, both John and Marley have been doing it a bit tough lately, and John has been unable to buy his beautiful Marley the treats he knows Marley deserves. So our wonderful friends at our charity partner, St John's Crisis Centre gave Marley and John a 'The Good Pet Box' (thanks to our exclusive partner Petbarn!!), and John was blown away by the kindness! He was incredibly thankful and surpised by the k...ind gesture. As for Marley? Well, he didn't want to wait, excitedly tucking into the box the minute he could - how cute is that picture! So we're sending out a big THANK YOU to those who have purchased boxes to go to our friends such as Marley and John, and to our charity partner St Johns who do an incredible job of handing out hundreds of our boxes to those experiencing homelessness. 10.01.2022 Last week a wonderful teacher contacted us about 20 year 7 students who all put in $1 to buy a Winter Box for someone in need. The students also all wrote a note for someone experiencing homelessness When we read this particular note from Trinesha, The Good Box team burst into tears. 05.01.2022 Meet the beautiful Jules! A friend of Jules was telling her about a man that he sees on his daily commute who is experiencing homelessness. He wanted to help this man with his current situation, but was unsure about how to make this happen. Thankfully, Jules knew all about us, and headed to The Good Box shop page. Jules and her friends chipped in for a Goodie Box and had it sent so her friend could share it with the man he saw experiencing homelessness on his commute. She got... in touch with us afterwards and wanted to let us know that it was SO GREAT that she and her friends could buy a gift like this, that it was the gift if giving as well as an incredibly easy and transparent way of helping out a fellow human. 05.01.2022 Good Boxers, I am sure you remember our wonderful friend Damo! Damo has been our friend and supporter since the Good Box was just an idea rolling around in our heads. He was experiencing homelessness during this time, and was kind enough to offer his knowledge and insight with aspects of the Good Box creation, such as designs for the boxes, where boxes would be appreciated in the community, and what would be the perfect things to include in the box. Damo was the very first p...erson to tell us that our boxes were not just special for what they contained, but for the conversation they started within people in all walks of life. It’s all about education and showing how valuable communication is, especially to those who are vulnerable. So we figured there had to be a way that we could show Damo our immense appreciation of his ongoing support. Here he is PROUDLY wearing our TGB MERCH!
