19.01.2022 A German startup is building small flying wind turbines that use 10 times less material at half the cost of traditional options. In June, KiteKRAFT hit a major milestone with a 7-foot kite prototype, completing its first figure-8 flight, which will provide the system’s wind power. Its mission is to provide small energy networks, which are normally powered by diesel generators and/ or solar energy.

19.01.2022 Wisconsin farmer Scott Thompson plants rays of sunshine by growing 2 million sunflowers. Guests at Thompson Strawberry Farm pay $25 per car group and are invited to cut and take a dozen of the bright flowers home once they’re done wandering through the fields, taking pictures and having a good time in the sun. The family's goal is for people to enjoy a nice day in the country and bring home something beautiful.

18.01.2022 New York is turning the world’s largest garbage dump into a green oasis of native grasses that powers homes. Fresh Kills landfill, once the dumping site for all of New York City’s garbage, which terrorised Staten Islanders with odours and trash mounds, has reached 20 stories high. The plan is to open in stages, starting with North Park Phase 1, in which 21 acres will open to the public next spring and continue for another 15 years.

17.01.2022 This week, ZeroAvia completed the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell powered flight of a commercial-grade aircraft. Partly-funded by the UK Government, the flight in Cranfield, England, used 4lbs 6 oz of hydrogen fuel and reached 1000 feet altitude. With its Piper six-seat plane, this is the first step to moving from fossil fuels to zero-emission hydrogen as the primary energy source for commercial aviation.

16.01.2022 Did you know that yoga could be a lifesaver for people with the most common type of irregular heart beat? A study of 538 patients found the ancient Indian form of exercise almost halved symptoms among people with atrial fibrillation (AF). Lead author Dr Naresh Sen said, 'Our study suggests yoga has wide-ranging physical and mental health benefits for patients with atrial fibrillation and could be added on top of usual therapies'.

08.01.2022 Unilever will accelerate the sustainability of its brands by sourcing 100% of energy needed for its formulations with renewable or recycled carbon. The move to these chemicals is a shift away from fossil fuels. The evolving green focus on its global products is a big step towards Unilever’s pledge of net zero emissions from its products by 2039. The chemicals used in the cleaning products make up the greatest proportion (46%) of the products’ lifetime carbon footprints.
