23.01.2022 DOUBLE BAG ALL YOUR FRUIT SCRAPS PLEASE. So this 'recall' of fruit asks you all to double bag all the fruit you're disposing of that was bought in the last few... days, statewide. You're asking this morning: What about at school? (Give your kids some bags) What about locally bought fruit? (bag scraps to be safe) Can I freeze it and compost it? (yes for 24 hours) Boil it and compost it? (yes for ages) Microwave it? (no not reliable) Feed it to the chooks? (no - bag it) How long for? (Until whatever you have in your house now is gone) What are the host fruits? Apples, apricots, bananas, blackberries, capsicums, cherries, figs, grapefruit, mulberries, nashis, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pears, plums, raspberries, strawberries and tomatoes. Here's the FAQs from Biosecurity Tasmania. http://dpipwe.tas.gov.au//Frequently%20Asked%20Questions%2

20.01.2022 Treasures from the garden: lavender and mulberries.

20.01.2022 Wherever you live, you should always be vigilant for signs of fruit fly or their larvae. A mature fruit fly is around 7mm long and is reddish brown with some y...ellow markings. Fruit fly larvae look like blowfly maggots. Mature larvae are 8-11mm in length and approximately 1.5mm in width. They are usually easy to see in the flesh of the fruit. You are more likely to see fruit fly larvae than actual flies. This video was shot by one of our entomologists of fruit fly larvae in apples. If you find anything you suspect as fruit fly report it by calling the report line on 03 6165 3774 See more

15.01.2022 The weather gods play games with us. It’s too wet for mowing and slashing but ideal for planting! Just be careful about soil compaction with all of this moisture, and keep an eye on plants susceptible to mildews (I’m looking at you, cucurbits!)
