25.01.2022 Sorry to get a bit cheeky but we thought that this was a perfect quote to celebrate International Womens Day #bettywhite #internationalwomensday #iwd2018 #womensupportingwomen #womenempowerment

25.01.2022 To celebrate Art Month over 100 art galleries, studios and artist run initiatives have been opening their doors as part of the Inner West Open Studio Trail. Follow the link to download a map or see what events are on this weekend.

24.01.2022 Should age matter when applying for a job? Should you even put your date of birth on your application form or cv? If someone has all the skills and proves reliable and dedicated, why have they been overlooked? These questions can be frustrating, but for a person over 55 and job hunting, they are certainly questions that will run through your mind.

24.01.2022 On SBS Insight right now, dating after 60.

22.01.2022 This community arts project connecting teenagers to seniors sounds like a great idea! If you know anyone who would like to participate please share this with them or get in touch with the organiser at [email protected]

21.01.2022 If you were asked what has been the most enjoyable period of your life, what would your reply be? Here are the responses from people who were asked that exact question.

21.01.2022 Just a little heartwarming story for the morning.

21.01.2022 Today is the start of National Volunteer Week, a week where volunteers are celebrated and thanked for their dedication and efforts. While many dont do it for the acknowledgement, it goes without saying that many Charities, Not For Profits and Community Service providers would be limited in what they can do without their volunteers. There are many events being held this week, from morning teas to award ceremonies, if you volunteer, contact the organisation you work with to s...ee if they have anything on. If you would like to become a volunteer, Volunteering Australia (volunteeringaustralia.org), govolunteer.com.au and Seek Volunteer (www.volunteer.com.au) are great places to find the right fit for you. #nationalvolunteerweek #givealittlechangealot #nvw2018

20.01.2022 Today is International Day of Happiness! The theme of this years celebrations is Share Happiness, focusing on the importance of relationships, kindness and supporting each other. How can you bring happiness into your life today? How can you bring it into someone elses?... #InternationalDayOfHappiness #ShareHappiness

20.01.2022 So many of us have either made or eaten a childrens cake from the Australian Womens Weekly Childrens Birthday Cake Book. But what does the author of this book think of the creations that tortured adults & delighted children?

17.01.2022 Just a reminder that tomorrow is Clean Up Australia Day. Started in 1989, its a day where hundreds of thousands of locals help to remove rubbish from communal spaces such as parks, beaches and other public areas. It is now the nations largest community-based environmental event. So if you havent already made plans, and feel like getting some fresh air and exercise while helping the environment, then its not too late to join (or create) a Clean Up crew in your area!

17.01.2022 Congratulations to 99 year old George Corones, who after swimming the 50m freestyle in record time, is heading to the Commonweath Games as an honorary team member. We look forward to seeing his achievements on the Gold Coast in April!

16.01.2022 If watching the Winter Olympics has inspired you to take up exercise (is it only us?) but you need one more nudge, we suggest this beautiful documentary that screened on ABC last night. The Pacemakers, by director Selah Hennessy, follows a group of men over the age of 90 as they prepare for the 2017 World Masters Athletics Championships. Remember, its never too late to start something!

16.01.2022 Happy Seniors Week all! The NSW Seniors Festival started today and there are so many things happening to celebrate. Click on the link below or contact your local council and community centers to find out whats happening in your area and how you can be involved.

15.01.2022 Incredible proof of the importance of exercise and fitness as we age. As the article says youre never too old to start.

15.01.2022 If my body lets me I will do it as long as I can. - Leslie Brull, pastry chef from Bondi stalwart Wellington Cake Shop when asked whether he plans to retire from his 57 year baking career.

14.01.2022 Gathering with friends so often turns into an opportunity to laugh as we reminisce about days gone by. Imagine the stories that could be told when that group of friends includes Dames Eileen Atkins, Judi Dench, Joan Plowright and Maggie Smith. Tea with the Dames is a documentary film that allows us to sit with them as they share their tales. ... But dont expect polite chitchat. This film is hilarious, acerbic and a great demonstration that you dont need to play to a script to get laugh-out-loud moments. Just like the best catch-ups, your sides will ache from laughing (just think of it as your daily exercise ) Tea with the Dames opens in cinemas today.

13.01.2022 The Sydney Film Festival announced its 2018 program yesterday and we were excited to see quite a number of directors over the age of 55 amongst the many inclusions. Here are just a few who you might recognise: Aki Kaurismki (61 yrs old), Spike Lee (61), Gus Van Sant (65), Gillian Armstrong (67), Win Wenders (72), Frederick Wiseman (88).... These people (and all the others we havent mentioned) prove that creativity, passion and drive have no age limit! You can view the full festival lineup via the link below.

13.01.2022 As communities continue to celebrate National Volunteer Week, we came across this story and had to share it. 86 year old Sylvia Baynes has been presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick for 45 years of volunteer service. #nationalvolunteerweek #givealittlechangealot #nvw2018

12.01.2022 The world lost one of its brightest stars yesterday. Stephen Hawking, who passed away at 76, was considered a rock star scientist; not just because of his appearances on popular television shows including The Simpsons, Futurama and The Big Bang Theory, but because he brought complex theories on the creation of the universe, black holes and relativity to the public and made the incomprehensible (almost) understandable. His achievements in pushing boundaries - in science and in his battle with ALS will leave a lasting legacy.

12.01.2022 And just like that, it is the end of another month. And another season. But we are clinging to the memories of summer as much as this lone beachgoer is #autumn #helloautumn #goodbyesummer #newseason #newmonth #march #summermemories #gmpoutandabout #greymatterprojectau

12.01.2022 We love this mash up of The Golden Girls as Disney Princesses (and uh one prince ). Well to be honest, they were already royalty in our eyes anyways

11.01.2022 Today, March 8 is International Womens Day. A day to commemorate the journey women have been on, recognise where they are, and excitedly anticipate where they will be in the future. Happy International Womens Day to all the amazing women out there, we love and appreciate everything you do.

06.01.2022 Does our mental capacity ever stop growing? We say no, and this recent scientific finding is backing that up. While there is still a lot of research to be done there is evidence that people even up to the age of 79 may generate new brain cells, suggesting that seniors may retain cognitive abilities for a lot longer than previously thought.

05.01.2022 This heartbreaking story highlights the lonely reality many older people face. But when you dont have family, who do you turn to? How can we as a community ensure everyone has someone there for them?

03.01.2022 This story will certainly warm up your cold winter morning. An 84 year old husband has visited a department store beauty counter for the past 8 months to learn how to apply makeup for his wife who is losing her eyesight, ensuring that she will always look and feel confident & beautiful even when she is no longer able to apply the makeup herself.

02.01.2022 #Repost @ruokday For older Australians, loneliness and isolation can be a massive issue and, without the right support structure, they can have very negative consequences. We need to think about what we can do each day and take the steps to reach out to an older relative or neighbour a little thing like that can make such a huge difference. #RUOK #RUOKDay #RUOKeveryday

01.01.2022 We wholeheartedly endorse telling everyone how old you feel instead of how old you are! #Repost @humansofny We keep waiting for her to turn 78. For the last twenty years shes been telling people that shes 77. It got a little awkward when some of her kids reached their seventies. We told her, Mom, its going to seem like you gave birth when you were five. But she didnt care. Shed rationalize it by saying: 77 is the age I feel. She fell and broke her hip two mo...nths ago. But until then shed always been extremely active. Shed meet her friends for coffee. She was on the board of two charities. She was always alert and kept her sense of humor. After the accident I drove her to the hospital, and I couldnt convince her that we needed to tell the doctor she was 97. And when she finally agreed, she wasnt too happy about it.
