24.01.2022 Autumn is here and this is what we are greeted with when we arrive home. It is glorious, but it won't last for long as the leaves will soon drop. We have wonderful yellows, reds, oranges and golds around the garden. I make sure I take time every day to go for a little walk, so that I don't miss any of the changes. Winter will be here soon and the landscape will change again, to sleep until spring.

22.01.2022 Some of the autumn beauty I encountered on my walk through the garden today. I am so lucky.

21.01.2022 Well, the joys of autumn are over and now comes the clean up. The beautiful colours have done their job and the leaves have all fallen - and turned brown. The bleak beauty of winter is arriving and the fire is on. Winter is a time of rest for the country (if not for me, being the one who will be sweeping up leaves etc) and the leaves will nourish the ground for the coming spring. Winter has its own beauty, crisp and stark, and brings with it opportunities for outdoor gatheri...ngs around a fire, toasting marshmallows, drinking hot chocolate and catching up on the news with friends. It also brings opportunities to sleep in, have extra cuddles and curl up in a blanket to watch a good movie. Then there is winter solstice and Xmas in July celebrations, to mention just a couple. Yes, winter can be good, and what a wonderful place to experience a good winter - Orange. See more

19.01.2022 COVID19, obviously, has halted the flow of guests through the B&B. We ourselves are in our mid 60's so have to be very mindful. The lock down is for the protection of everyone and we just have to swallow the consequences. I hope the virus subsides soon and things can begin to progress towards normalcy, although "normal" will never be the same. So, stay home, take care of each other, eat well, sleep well and stay well.

18.01.2022 We are back. Well, we were never away, but COVID19 certainly shut us down. We are welcoming guests again. However, we are only taking one group at a time, whether that group is only one person, or six, as we are not able to guarantee the 1.5m spacing for people in the shared guest areas. We had lovely people in for the long weekend and it was so good to be able to meet and look after guests again. While things were quiet I got a lot of work done in the garden So if you have been here before you certainly will see a difference out there. Our renovations are also going very well. Once our side is done I will be targeting the B&B side, and will save for it, so exciting times still to come.

17.01.2022 It is hot, very very dry due to the protracted drought, and sometimes smoky due to the many fires. We are lucky because we are not directly affected by the fires but people are not travelling and roads at times are closed. So things are pretty quiet here just now. However, we are doing renovations and the work has begun on the extension, so we are pretty excited about that. The slab will be poured next week, then it will begin to look like something. The pic shows the trenches dug for the footing. The builder has put a lot of work into them since then.

17.01.2022 I have a new fur baby. He is a jack russell chihuahua cross, nearly 10 weeks old now. I have had him for almost a week. I have named him Lancelot. He loves people so I am sure he is going to be welcoming and hospitable. He is more independent and confident every day and I am sure he is going to be a wonderful member of our family. Well, he already is.

16.01.2022 We live in a wonderful space that is shared with guests who come to stay. Here is a frogmouth mother and her chick, just a couple of days before the chick took to the wing. She sat on her egg which was secure in a nest of sticks in the fork of a tree near the house, and which looked quite "un-nest" like. But she knew what she was doing. I went out and had a chat with her every few days. She was so patient. I hope you enjoy the photo.

16.01.2022 No pictures in this post!!!! Sometimes it is good to have an itinerary prepared by someone local, someone who knows their way around. Well, here is my first itinerary offering. If anyone would like to take up an itinerary, I can provide you with additional information (contact numbers, entry fees etc). My first one is titled: Eat, Drink, Villages, Relax...Continue reading

15.01.2022 Thank you to all those people who have chosen to stay with me during these tough times. I am grateful to all of you and I do enjoy meeting new people and reacquainting with return guests. The drought and fires stopped most people from coming and we were just beginning to recover when COVID-19 hit ... so forward bookings cancelled and short notice bookings have stopped. And now state borders are closing. Tough times for all of us trying to make ends meet - and it is getting more difficult. Hopefully the COVID-19 virus emergency will pass quickly and life in general and business can get back to normal, with some sensible adjustments. Oh, and LOL, I have decided that I can upgrade my B&B to "luxury" - we DO have toilet paper!!

14.01.2022 Dick Smith is such a clue man. He presents some food for thought

12.01.2022 Post Renovation News: Well, the building might be done, but now we are working on the aesthetic aspects to the building. During the renovations a wall had to be demolished. That wall gifted us some wonderful cypress pine - enough for the railing and treads for the bridge replacement. I made the bridge base previously. The bridge is now complete and well and truly in use and I love it. It will definitely last the 20 years that I wanted!

10.01.2022 Hello to all, Well, I run the B&B, but in my spare time take brush to board and explore my creativity. I mostly paint in acrylics. I like to be able to bash it around a little - canvas has too much "give" for my liking. My latest painting will be exhibited at The Barracks (2b Peisley Street, Orange - at East Fork) for the Banjo Paterson festival, which opens this Saturday evening at 5.30pm - all welcome to come and share the opening celebration. The themed gallery is Poetry t...o Paintings, which I have entered my work in. This image is of the painting very close to finished. I am using the same poem as last year, "The Daylight is Dying", but took inspiration from a different section of the poem, where it talks about birds at their roost. Come along and see the finished work and the two floors of fabulous art created by the members of Colour City Creatives. The exhibition will run until 24th February, 10am to 4pm See more

03.01.2022 Before the Easter rush came upon us we took a few days to get away. Away from town, away from phone service, away from the every day routine. We camped on the side of a river and enjoyed the serene surroundings, the occasional animal life, the beautiful sunsets and the bacon and egg breakfasts cooked on the camp fire. Mind you, we actually have all of this at home (except the river), but it was nice to be somewhere else and be away from the daily housework grind.

02.01.2022 Oh, another walk along one of the pathways and yet another surprise. Guests who were in last weekend loved going for walks in the garden with their dog and thoroughly enjoyed the autumn colours. On their last night they took their dinner into the garden and ate it in front of a little camp fire I prepared for them - they thought it a very pleasant finish to their four night stay.

01.01.2022 I can say that I have been somewhat distracted over the last week and a half. My mum and sister are in the middle of the fires in southern Tasmania, and have been staying in an evacuation centre for over a week now, as their little village has been seriously threatened over that time. My thoughts have been with them during this period and it has been very stressful. We are hoping that the villagers will be able to return to their homes in the next few days. Three homes have been lost so far and my sister's house has been threatened a few times already. The main thing is that they are safe. Property can be replaced.
