The origins of crochet are a historical mystery, with one theory sugg...esting a start in Arabia, spreading eastward to Tibet and westward to Spain, from where it followed the Arab trade routes to other Mediterranean countries. Alternatively, early evidence of crochet may have come from South America, where a primitive tribe was said to have used crochet adornments in rites of puberty. Finally, in China, early examples were known of three-dimensional dolls worked in crochet. Regardless, there is no evidence of crochet in Europe before 1800. However, it became popular in the early 1800s partly due to Mlle. Riego de la Branchardiere, who was best known for her ability to take old-style needle and bobbin lace designs and turn them into crochet patterns that could easily be duplicated. She published many pattern books so that millions of women could begin to copy her designs. Mlle. Riego also claimed to have invented "lace-like" crochet," today called Irish crochet. Amigurumi (, lit. "crocheted or knitted stuffed toy") is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures. The word is a compound of the Japanese words ami, meaning "crocheted or knitted", and kurumi, literally "wrapping", While the art of amigurumi has been known in Japan for several decades, the craft first started appealing to the masses in other countries, especially in the West, in 2003. 07.01.2022 1 PIGGY 1 PIGGY 2 PIGGIES 3 PIGGIES 5 PIGGIES ... ? PIGGIES WHAT COMES NEXT IN THIS PIGGY SEQUENCE? YOU GOT IT! IT'S PIGGONACCI DAY (otherwise known as FIBONACCI DAY)! The Italian Mathematician known as Fibonacci, is associated with the number series familiar to programming students everywhere. His interest in this number sequence was based on his theoretical study of how fast rabbits could breed in ideal circumstances. Note: this easily could have been guinea pigs :-) Fibonacci Day occurs on November 23rd, from the digits "1, 1, 2, 3" , the first part of this recursive number sequence interpreted in the month/day format. Fibonacci numbers (in which subsequent numbers can be derived by adding the previous), are a natural sequencing which can be used to describe certain patterns in nature, often appearing in some leaf arrangement in plants, such as sunflowers and pinecone bracts. Though indeed favored by nature and with interesting mathematical properties, the Fibonacci sequence and its mathematical cousin (Phi, the "golden ratio") do not appear as widely as some have alleged, claiming their mysterious presence in art, architecture, human and piggy body proportions, etc ... . This appears to be a bit of wishful "number gossip" generated by ardent, but not rigorously mathematical pattern seekers, and patiently debunked by mathematicians! 06.01.2022 ANYONE FOR CHERRY JUBLIEE? I"VE GOT THE CHERRY. YOU GET THE VANILLA ICE CREAM AND THE MATCHES! IT'S CHERRIES JUBILEE DAY, PIGGIES! Cherries jubilee is ...a dessert dish made with cherries and liqueur (typically Kirschwasser), which is subsequently flambéed, and commonly served as a sauce over vanilla ice cream. The recipe is generally credited to famous French chef Auguste Escoffier, who prepared the dish for one of Queen Victoria's Jubilee celebrations, widely thought to be the Diamond Jubilee in 1897. If you're fond of lighting your desserts on fire, there is also Bananas Foster, Mangos Diablo (mangos flambéed in tequila) and pêches Louis (peaches flamed in whiskey)! Guinea pigs may eat both sweet and sour cherries, but as with all sugary fruits, quantities should be limited and judgment about your own pigs taken into account.
