This millennial has even been named the Avocado Generation .... but with this obsession also comes a very real injury and the incidence in 2017 was astonishingly high around the world! Avocado Hand occurs usually with the common manoeuvre of extracting the seed with a sharp knife and when done incorrectly (or when the avocado is not ripe), can result in muscular, neural and tendon injury, often requiring surgery. This is a tendon mallet (tendon has been avulsed from the DIPJ and no bony abnormality is detected) and will require 6-8 weeks of full time extension splinting.
