14.01.2022 We are here all week at HBF for our Art Exhibition. Here is some more interested and must know history - extracted from @naidocweek 1938... On Australia Day, 1938, protestors marched through the streets of Sydney, followed by a congress attended by over a thousand people. One of the first major civil rights gatherings in the world, it was known as the Day of Mourning. Following the congress, a deputation led by William Cooper presented Prime Minister Joseph Lyons with a proposed national policy for Aboriginal people. This was again rejected because the Government did not hold constitutional powers in relation to Aboriginal people. After the Day of Mourning, there was a growing feeling that it should be a regular event. In 1939 William Cooper wrote to the National Missionary Council of Australia to seek their assistance in supporting and promoting an annual event. More information about the Day of Mourning can be found at the AIATSIS website.

05.01.2022 One of the greatest pleasures I have in my career is working with amazing artists. Im honoured to be currently working with Ruth Cohen, a successful Perth artist who solely focuses on creating awareness and support for the Free the Bears Foundation. Ruth has art auctions once a year selling as many as 30 paintings with 100% proceeds going to Free the Bears. She also runs painting workshops teaching people how to paint in oil and acrylic. With 4 university degrees, Ruth is not your typical artist. She is extremely educated, and pays her knowledge forward to the next generation as an art teacher at Trinity College. I can honestly say she is one of the finest human beings I have had to pleasure of knowing, and I know that I am better at my job and personal life knowing Ruth.
