25.01.2022 Start the conversation about coronavirus (COVID-19) with your kids! Watch our video for tips on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please remember, we will get through this together!

23.01.2022 We're asking Western Australians to cancel their travel plans this Easter, even if they don't involve leaving their region. And just to be clear, WA's campsites... are now closed - your camping trip is just going to have to wait. Please, stay home this weekend. But that doesn't mean that we can't make the Easter long weekend special, especially for our youngest West Aussies. There's no rule against setting up a tent in your own backyard, or treating your own house like a holiday house for a couple of days. And while you might not be able to travel for a holiday with your extended family or friends, we're lucky that in 2020 they are just a quick video-chat away. Our annual traditions might be on hold for a year, but that doesn't mean we can't start some new ones to make this Easter special. So please, stay home this Easter long weekend.

15.01.2022 Today we can announce that there are now expanded options for Western Australians to get tested for COVID-19. From tomorrow, patients with a GP referral can be ...tested at 11 private pathology collection centres across the metropolitan area. Clinipath, Western Diagnostics and Australian Clinical Labs have dedicated these collection centres for COVID-19 testing. The new services are in addition to our COVID Clinics operating at seven hospital sites across the metropolitan area and at the Bunbury Health Campus and Broome Hospital, as well as at emergency departments in regional and metropolitan WA. The expansion of the testing service means people will have more options, closer to where they live. This is a pre-emptive measure to ensure the availability of facilities and prompt diagnosis can occur as winter and the influenza season approaches. People in regional and remote areas can continue to present to more than 100 public hospitals, health services or remote area health clinics for testing. We are doing all that we can to make testing available to people who are concerned they might have COVID-19.

14.01.2022 I know we’ve been asking a lot of you all over the past few weeks. I’m so proud that Western Australia has risen to the challenge so far. We’re all in this toge...ther. And for the most part, it sounds like everyone is doing the right thing. It’s also reassuring that our efforts are paying off. It’s encouraging to see lower numbers of new cases. But that’s just all the more reason for us to stay on course. What we’re doing is working, but this is a marathon, not a sprint. And we're still heading into the storm, not out of it. WA needs you, and all your families and friends, to keep up the social distancing, hygiene and, where appropriate, self-isolation. They’re our best weapons in this war against COVID-19. Together, we will get through this.

12.01.2022 Do you know what is really fun to grow with Kids in winter? Sugar snap Peas!!! They climb and make pretty flowers aaaaaannd are so yummy and nutritious! You can even make sweet pea cubbies!!! ... How To grow: Choose a sunny, well-drained position. use compost or manure before planting. Sow into damp soil beside trellis or support (up to 2m) direct where they are to grow. Cover with Seed Raising Mix and firm down. Do not water for a couple of days after sowing. Hint: Great companion plant for beans, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, celery, lettuce and radish. Avoid overwatering - seeds may rot before germination if soil is too wet. Water at base of plant, rather than overhead, to minimise risk of disease. At end of harvest, dig spent plants into the soil to add extra organic nitrogen. Position trellis running north to south for maximum sunlight. Storage: a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Position: Full sun Plant space: 5cm Sow depth 25mm Germination: 7-10 days Maturity 8-10 weeks Maturity (days): 63 Botanical name: Pisum sativum Plant variety: Climbing Suitable for: Pots and garden beds Sow Autumn Winter

10.01.2022 Growing Carrots with Kids! You will need Carrot top (2-3 cm from stem with some root growth remaining on top) Shallow dish... 10 Cotton wool Water Sunny and protected spot How to grow a carrot top Add a layer of cotton balls to your small dish. Add a light dribble of water over the cotton balls so they are wet but not completely Drenched with water. Press your carrot top into the wet cotton balls and place the dish in a sunny location. Be sure to check that the cotton balls remain wet while they grow. You do not want to dry them out. It will take a few days for the kids to see the carrot top begin to grow, once it starts it will grow quite quickly when conditions are right. Learning: How a root vegetable grows (science) Developing a sense of responsibility caring for it. Observational skills Plant care DID YOU KNOW: it is possible to grow other root vegetables so why not experiment a few different types and record their findings. Have them test to see if there is a difference between growth rate. THEN share your pictures with US!!!
