21.01.2022 Former ACTU secretary Bill Kelty, who delivered the Annual Hawke Lecture in Adelaide on Wednesday, said Hawke saw climate change as "unfinished business" before his death in May this year. Kelty said, Australia has taken the "low road" on climate change and missed a crucial opportunity to address the issue. 14.01.2022 THE HAWKE CENTRE WINNER OF GOVERNORS MULTICULTURAL AWARDS 2019 - COMMUNITY SECTOR The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre at UniSA has been acknowledged with the Community Sector Award for its outstanding contribution to multiculturalism and social harmony in South Australia, as part of the 2019 Governors Multicultural Awards.... The Award recognises the events we have presented that support and provide a platform for cultural diversity, including the 2019 Amnesty International Oration, 2019 Australian Refugee Association (ARA) Oration, and partnership events with Alliance Franaise dAdlade, among many others. As well, the award acknowledges our Exhibition Program. The Hawke Centres Kerry Packer Civic Gallery showcases artists and communities from culturally and socially diverse backgrounds. The artwork conveys social messages, such as celebrating multiculturalism, confronting racism and building inclusive communities. Congratulations to the recipients of the Governors Multicultural Awards in the other categories, as well as the finalists. 10.01.2022 MARTHA COOPER: STREET SHOTS, 1970 2019 28 OCTOBER - 20 NOVEMBER Kerry Packer Civic Gallery, University of South Australia City West Campus In the late 1970s and early 80s as New York City was in the throes of economic collapse, Martha Cooper was one of a handful of photographers to capture the colourful graffiti appearing on the citys subways.... Decades later her book Subway Art, a collaboration with Henry Chalfant, became the bible of graffiti and a catalyst for the spread of urban art globally. "Street Shots 1970 - 2019" features photos taken over four decades in such diverse places as New York, Japan, Haiti, Baltimore, Berlin, Japan and Sao Paulo, and includes Marthas personal mementos and collections. "Street Shots 1970 2019" is presented in collaboration with the upcoming feature documentary Martha: A Picture Story about Marthas remarkable lifes journey and surprising rise to prominence. The film In My Blood It Runs has launched worldwide with astounding engagement from all walks of life. The film follows Dujuan Hoosan, a 10 year old Arrernte and Garrwa child from the Northern Territory. In 2019, at the age of 12, Dujuan addressed the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council and the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child calling upon the Australian Government to treat kids like him better. Facilitated by Professor Stan Grant, our panel of experts will consider the issues explored in the film through discussion on the rights of Aboriginal children in relation to criminality, Australian and International laws, and hearing Aboriginal children speak. This event coincides with National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Childrens Day.
