25.01.2022 FebFast Febfast aims to give you the tools and opportunity to reflect, change and break existing routines or habits that no longer serve you. Its a great time to start after the rush, busy and excess of the holiday season, February allows us to get back into our routine. FebFast is also an opportunity to rally some support around you to help you achieve your month-long goals, whilst also supporting others by raising funds for those experiencing disadvantage or struggling ...with their mental health. The FebFast collective have made some suggestions that can have a beneficial impact on health - things like alcohol, sugar, inactivity, caffeine, smoking, soft drinks, but you can choose your own. Check in with your health team (us, your naturopaths or your GP) if you need some support getting started and making sure that youre giving up your vice safely. So why not take the month off?! www.febfast.org.au/ #febfast #pauseforacause #youthsupport #youth #febfast2020 #healthy

15.01.2022 We hope these showers are getting to where theyre needed the most...

15.01.2022 We tend to start getting busier towards the end of the year... the pull to finish off home or work projects, exams, the end of term and school holidays approach, Christmas shopping... Check out these jar meal ideas that will save you oh-so-much time (washing, preparing, thinking...) and you can have breakfast, lunch, dinner AND snacks lined up in your fridge for the week ahead. And thats another thing off your to-do list, and a little extra time for you. Jar Prep Ideas:... A weeks worth of brekkies in less than 5 mins? Chia puddings and overnight oats are winners! Start with your base ingredients and swap up your flavours so you dont get bored! Grab and Go dips + dippers - slice up your favourite veggie dippers (e.g. celery, carrot, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, baby radish, green beans, snow peas, etc) and add to a jar with a generous scoop of a bean-based dips such as hummus. A weeks worth of crispy salads while youre preparing dinner? Grains and starches at the bottom, leafy greens at the top, dressing on the side. Make 5 for a week of lunches... 10 for lunches plus sides to add to your protein for dinner. Single serve soups and stews - perfect over winter for a quick hot lunch, but who doesnt love a spicy curry at anytime of year?! Fire up the slow cooker, or a big pot of soup once a week, and youll start to fill your freezer with a selection of delicious and hearty lunches or quick dinners. We love curries and dhal, soups and stews. Serve with a portion of brown rice, quinoa or cauliflower rice if you wish - they all freeze well. #mealprepping #jarsalads #organise #eatrealfood #eattherainbow #veggieseveryday #thehealthandwellbeingstudio #naturopath #naturopathmelbourne

14.01.2022 With the ongoing state of emergency around our country, we are constantly exposed to intensely traumatic information, stories and dialogue. Although we might not necessarily be directly impacted by the fires, we can still feel a sense of compassion and empathy to those suffering. We may have friends or family in the area, and we may take on feelings of concern, helplessness, hopelessness, despair or grief for those people and animals who have lost lives, homes, property... ... Its important to seek support to help navigate these traumatic events. Speak to your health professional, or check out online services - @BeyondBlueOfficial has some resources and a forum to allow you to connect with or find support with others that are finding themselves struggling... https://www.beyondblue.org.au//ptsd-/coping-with-bushfires Some tools that can help you include getting involved in community events such as donating time, money, services or goods, finding ways to connect with your loved ones or others that might be feeling similarly to you, seeking or providing support or simply time out from the news, inflammatory conversations or social media posts. #compassionfatigue #empathy #support #connection #socialmedia #depression #anxiety #ptsd #beyondblue #naturopathy #naturopathmelbourne #thehealthandwellbeingstudio

12.01.2022 If theres one thing we adore about Christmas, its the food. We love Christmas cooking, and it has become tradition at our Studio to get our bake-on and treat each other in the lead up to Christmas. We also love perusing different ideas for adding some extra veg to our Christmas fare, as its easy for our get-togethers to get quite rich and heavy. Were all for the balance between delicious real food and #treatyoself!! @luisegreenkitchenstories share their glorious vege...tarian / vegan inspired Christmas feasts each year and are a beautiful resource for veggie loaded inspiration. We love the look of this Shaved Brussels Sprout Christmas Salad that you can find on their website. Did you know that @monash have recently shared that Brussels Sprouts are considered low FODMAP at a serve of 38g (head to the link below to see what that looks like via FODMAP Everyday - its more than you think!!) https://www.fodmapeveryday.com//low-fodmap-brussels-sprou/

11.01.2022 Sweet treats for hot days!! Blackberries are a great source of vitamins C (fab if youre still suffering from hayfever, or to boost collagen for gorgeous glowy skin), vitamin A (keeping your immune system in check) and fibre (you know it - to keep you regular!) Their rich, dark colour is teaming with anthocyanins and polyphenols. As they can also get a bit out of control in the wild, if you are foraging for wild blackberries PLEASE know your source... wild blackberries are o...ften sprayed with pesticides to keep them under control (although goats love them too, and we think thats a far cuter way to keep them under control!!). If you can get your hands on some, whether from your local and trusted farmer, farmers market or grocer, were big fans of this super simple recipe that the kids love too. Simply blend or mash your blackberries in with some natural yoghurt of choice (e.g. coconut or dairy). Ripe blackberries are sweet, but if you need a little extra, add in a drizzle of honey or maple syrup and some torn mint leaves. Pour into some icy-pole molds (or even a small cup and teaspoon you can use as a stick) and chill until firm. And for those of you looking for some seasonal inspo, or if youre giving Veganuary a try... heres whats good this month! apricots, bananas, blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, raspberries, strawberries, cherries, lemons, lychee, mango, honeydew, rockmelon, watermelon, nectarines, passionfruit, peaches, pineapples, plums, prickly pear, rambutan, starfruit, tamarillo, asparagus, avocado, beans, capsicum, celery, cucumber, eggplant, lettuce, okra, onions, peas, radish, spring onion, squash, sweetcorn, tomato, zucchini x #eatrealfood #summer #berries #blackberries #foraging #sweettreats #healthykids #quickrecipes #thehealthandwellbeingstudio #naturopath #naturopathmelbourne

07.01.2022 As the bushfires remain active, areas of Australia are also being impacted by extensive smoke. The air quality in parts of Australia is rating among the most hazardous in the world. There are a number of ways that you can protect yourself from the health risks associated with bushfire smoke, as outlined by Vic Emergency and NSW Health: Minimise time in smoky areas where possible - stay inside if you can, with the windows and doors sealed. ... If you must be outside, P2 masks are available from Bunnings, hardware stores, Officeworks and some pharmacies. Ensure your mask is fitted and sealed well. After 4 hours, or once the masks becomes moist, replace the mask. Monitor air quality alerts and follow health messages. This information is available through https://www.epa.vic.gov.au/EPAAirWatch Use air conditioning on the recycled / recirculated air setting to avoid drawing smoky outdoor air inside. If you suffer from asthma or respiratory conditions, follow the advise of your health practitioner and keep your medications with you at all times. Spend time in air conditioned venues to stay cool and entertained, such as cinemas, libraries and shopping centres. Avoid introducing pollutants or additional smoke into your indoor air, including cigarette smoke, candles or incense. Access an air purifier with a HEPA filter that is appropriately suitable to the room size. Check on older family members, friends and neighbours, pregnant people, and keep kids inside. Bring pets inside, keeping them cool and hydrated. If you experience wheezing, chest tightness or difficulty breathing, call 000.
