24.01.2022 Ive seen a few people sharing this pic making fun of this lady. What I see is a person who is wearing a face mask and who has made an effective face shield out... of what she could access. Over this week we are going to see people doing their best with face masks and protection. Now is a time to support each other. See someone without a mask and you have a spare? Gift this person the protection they need. The vast majority are doing what they can with what they have. What hacks have you found during the lockdown? See more

23.01.2022 On the first of February 2020 the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) changed the poisons schedule moving amyl products from a grey zone of leather/video head cleaner/room odoriser to a medicine - for most products it means you would now need a prescription from a doctor. Some products were completely banned and one group was listed to be able to be sold via pharmacies after consultation. So what has this meant in the community?...Continue reading

23.01.2022 Please stay safe in the smoke. If you are looking at masks the minimum would be a P2 or N95 mask. Surgical masks or the foam masks do nothing! They need to fi...t tight against the face- men shave your beard! Also consider keeping away from smoke as much as you can. HEPA air purifier can also be an option for rooms you spend most of your time in. See more

14.01.2022 Today I wanted to share some thoughts to consider when it comes to dining out during the COVID-19 pandemic wherever you are in the world. This video was created as a way to stimulate conversation about ways to enjoy dining out while still staying COVID safe.

14.01.2022 Hey team, there has been a measles case in Sydney. If you are not sure of your vaccination status it may be worth considering getting a top up. Your immunity can also be checked with a simple blood test. If you are HIV positive, consider getting your immunity checked, if you need a top up and your CD-4 count is above 200 you should be safe to get the vaccination however talk with your doctor. Early signs of measles include: cough, runny nose, sticky itchy eyes, fever and rash... that covers most of the body including the palms of the hands. If you feel you may have measles, seek medical attention. Ask to be seated away from other people and wear a face mask to reduce risk of spread. Measles is spread from droplets from coughs and sneezes. Pls share if you have friends that may be at risk. See more

09.01.2022 So today is RUOK today. I know that some people have concerns that it is trite or worse that it offers no real support for people who are struggling. I agree, everyday we should be able to talk with people about how we are going. We should be able to feel safe to say stuff like, look I am having a tough time and I dont know what to do without having someone tap us on the back of the hand and say, oh well thats not good, hope it improves. You see one of the biggest issues ...is that we are never taught how we can all help a person who is in psychological distress... Some tips from a dude who has worked in psychiatry. -Listen. Open your ears, shut your mouth. Let people express how they are feeling. -Ask are you looking for help? Can I help guide you to help? -Never be afraid to ask are you worried you might harm yourself?... Asking the question reduces the risk of suicide. It literally can save a life. I does not implant the idea of self harm or suicide. Remember you dont have to fix the problem, but we can all be part of the solution. Listen, offer help to getting an appointement with their GP, or if they are really low grab their hand and bring them to the emergency department for further urgent help. We are all capable of helping people, we just need to get past the fear of opening a can of worms. If there are worms its ok, we can all help people gather them up and guide the worms to the garden where they serve a better purpose. If you are feeling low please reach out. If the first person you asked may not have read this post, reach out again. We are out there and we do care and want to help. Can I ask 2 things... 1) please share this post and 2) please watch this video of a presentation I did in the USA a few years back. Hugs. Dr George https://youtube.com/watch?v=GJV_WNmNJ9I

01.01.2022 TL:DR How to restart PrEP Spring has sprung, lockdown is opening up as are people’s sex lives. If you are on PrEP and have stopped during the lockdown this vide...o explain how to restart. Key points: -If you have had sex without PrEP in place it’s very important to get a full sexual health screening before you restart. -if you are gay or a man having sex with other men you just need to take 2 tablets of PrEP 2 to 24 hours before your next sexual encounter. You then return to daily tablets. PrEP on demand may be other option details here: https://isprepforme.com/consent/on-demand/ - If you are female, a person with trans experience or a heterosexual male you need to take one tablet of PrEP daily for 7 days before you will have protective levels of the medication. - As always talk with your doctor and be sure to get a regular sexual health screening. Please feel free to share if you have any friends on PrEP who might find this helpful. Dr George
