25.01.2022 I know the end of the year can be a stressful, traumatic, sad and/or lonely time for many people. This year we also have to deal with the growing impact of the global pandemic. Here’s a little bit of encouragement for you. You got this. Keep going
22.01.2022 Who got an iso-pet this year?? How have they changed your routine?
21.01.2022 Who needed this today??
21.01.2022 Were all in the same ocean, though not in the same boat. Lets help each other stay afloat, and dont forget to throw a lifeline out to those whove fallen out.
21.01.2022 Thank you @Next Practice for this reminder today!

20.01.2022 Do you know why Im always posting about mental health and wellbeing, self-compassion, resilience even though I am a medical doctor? Whats it got to do with medicine and physical health, you might ask? What Ive learned from more than two decades as a doctor is that if you dont nurture your mental wellbeing, your physical health becomes almost irrelevant. Conversely, a robust mindset can boost your physical health in so many ways. Look after all of yourself - mind, body, and spirit.
20.01.2022 Kindness is still needed, everyone.
19.01.2022 **extra mental health support** from Friday 7 August, an additional 10 sessions of psychological therapies will be available for people who have been impacted by further restrictions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. You can access these by contacting your GP and asking for a Mental Health Care Plan. Please do seek help if needed.
19.01.2022 What a week it’s been. Our current outbreak on the Northern Beaches in Sydney is a reminder to always be vigilant. Sydney, please mask up - a reminder that hand sanitiser does nothing against an airborne virus. Pay attention to ventilation - outdoors/door or window open is best. Overcrowding also increases virus transmission as does talking, shouting, and singing. We all need to do our part to keep everyone safe. We’re back to mandatory masks in the clinic for now, and a reminder that telehealth is available to reduce risk. Take care of yourselves and each other by being mindful of the above. You stay safe
19.01.2022 If you live alone in Victoria (including as a single parent) you will now be able to create a social bubble with one other person for much needed support and (socially distanced) face to face interaction. The FAQs are helpful. Quick summary: If your nominated person has children that cannot be left unattended/there is no-one else to care for them, they can bring their children along. Your children and their children do not count as extra people - if you have children and a...Continue reading
17.01.2022 Some days, or indeed many days, my heart is so full it feels like it will overflow. Sending you much love if you arent feeling quite that way right now.

16.01.2022 I'm writing a blog post about grief during a pandemic. What have you lost during COVID? What would you like to know?
16.01.2022 I turned another year older on the weekend. What a privilege! Not everyone gets that opportunity. Some of our beautiful ones are taken too soon, some even born sleeping. Its a reminder not to take a single day for granted. Even the long, dreary, grey days when you want to scream inside and out. We only really have today. So make it count, in some tiny way. Hang in there Melbourne. Im so proud of you. May you all get to see many more years around the sun. They wont all be spent in iso. #stage4 #melbourne #shelterinplace
16.01.2022 Good morning! Time to set an intention for the day. Remember to breathe. Remember to check in with yourself. Stand up tall and reach for the sky. I love this gentle yet energising (and quick) practice with Yoga With Adriene. ... Have a brilliant day and keep on shining https://yogawithadriene.com/sunrise-yoga/
16.01.2022 Almost everything will come to an end - good, bad and indifferent experiences. Sometimes these take a very long time, sometimes it's quicker. But we can all think of instances when we thought something would never end, and it did. Change is the only constant - you will not live the same day every day, despite how it might feel right now. This too shall pass. #stage4 #melbourne
15.01.2022 You're halfway there, #melbourne. I can't imagine what it must be like. If you need additional help for mental health, please call your GP, as additional Medicare-rebatable psychology sessions are available to those undergoing restrictions. Alternatively you can visit headspace, or check out https://www.mentalhealthcommission.gov.au/GettingThroughThi... And if you want to spend a few moments on something positive today, a new baby panda was born over the weekend at Washington's National Zoo. Head over to the live panda cam for some panda cuteness. Stay safe X
14.01.2022 It hasn’t been the easiest start to 2021 for many of us. The pandemic and all its consequences care little for dates. 2021 will continue to bring us challenges but one thing is for sure - none of us are going to be new to hardship. I hope you will be able to take what you learned in 2020 into the new year. There will be plenty of opportunity to make a difference to someone else in 2021, and also opportunities to ask for help for ourselves. For me, I learned a lot about mysel...f and what my strengths and weaknesses are. I was reminded of what is truly meaningful - and learned to live with loss and grief. I also learned that gratitude and humour go a long way, self compassion is essential, and when all else fails, have a cup of tea and go to bed early. There will be a new day to try again. What have you learned in 2020? Wishing you health and courage in 2021

14.01.2022 Back by popular demand... Part 2 of my series (which may end up being a two part series..) of how to nail your PhD and raise small children at the same time. You got this!!
14.01.2022 So much has changed since this time last year, and yet, here you are, learning to be courageous despite your fears.... And yes, there are still many unknowns but never discredit how youve already grown. Never forget the grace you found on the journey. Never be ashamed if youre still healing and learning. Remember the ground beneath your feet. Remember when it all felt like too much and you still remembered to slow down and breathe. You didnt know your life would change in such drastic ways and yet, here you are, learning to take this day by day. Always remember: courage comes in many shapes. Always remember: youre still growing in meaningful ways. MHN
14.01.2022 I truly, truly believe this xx
14.01.2022 #selfcare means treating yourself with love and care, just like you would treat a loved one. Tea and honey sounds perfect, doesnt it?
14.01.2022 RUOK? Don't forget to reach out and check on each other today (and all days of the year). Here's a little something about grief during a pandemic. I hope you find it helpful. What are you grieving? ... http://wp.me/p49LPq-Bz
13.01.2022 Thought for today. X
11.01.2022 There is a lot of need for kindness right now.
09.01.2022 Many people experience both mental and physical health problems. We believe one of the best approaches to this is to use a team-based model, and incorporate holistic management such as lifestyle changes, nutritional supplements, and mind-body therapies. I’m proud to be a co-author on a White Paper on Mental health and physical comorbidities which will be launched by Western Sydney University next month on this, and as part of developing our White Paper, we published this art...icle on integrative collaborative care for mental health and physical comorbidity. Thank you also to my patients who are, well, patient with me when they can’t book in to see me for 2 weeks because I am busy being a researcher. Your loyalty means so much to me! Mental and physical health should be treated as a whole - and lifestyle medicine and integrative therapies can help both. https://ijmhs.biomedcentral.com//10.1186/s13033-020-00410-6

I’m sending you all the magic of the season, and with that the strength and courage to face a new year. You got this. ... Merry Christmas and may you find peace and joy in the season.

04.01.2022 Hey #Melbourne. Are you getting your one hour outdoor exercise a day? Highly recommended for mental health, physical health, and general wellbeing!
04.01.2022 Of course taking medicines when necessary for our health is absolutely fine, but make sure you are taking responsibility for your life by eating foods that fuel... your body with good health, feed your mind with truthful, helpful thoughts that will keep you calm and present, and lastly give your soul an chance to shine and be the guiding light of your life. Doctors and medicines are very important , and equally, if not more important is the care, love, and respect you have for your one life and your health. See more
04.01.2022 When I was younger, I thought I couldnt meditate. Over time I have come to understand what meditation truly involves. While I am no means an expert, meditation now brings me daily joy and peace. Here is the first of a series of blogs written for the ParkRun international community. Ive included some links re Loving Kindness meditation - one of my favourites; and such a comfort during the time of COVId anxiety. X
04.01.2022 Sometimes the grief of not being able to see my family and dear friends overwhelms me like a wave. We are so near, in the same country, yet so far. My parents are elderly, and we have lost a year without precious times with them. I know everyone has their own grief to bear and at least mine will come to an end.... When grief overwhelms, look towards your Option B. You cant have Option A now - no matter how much you want it. This was Sheryl Sandbergs realisation when she was grieving her husband. Sending you much love and may you have the courage to explore Option B when you are ready.
03.01.2022 It was only recently that I realised how true this is! #selfcare isn't selfish - it's essential, like breathing. Look after yourself. You will then be the best version of yourself and only then can you begin to help others X
03.01.2022 The media's job is to provoke a constant sense of fear and vulnerability in the community. It's time to turn of the news and focus on good news instead. Share something good that's happened to you, or someone that you know, this week. We've had such a dark week and it's time to let that brightness shine once again! My son received a ribbon at the school athletics carnival for the 100m race! A paper that I submitted for publication has come back from the reviewers only needi...ng very minor revisions! It's Friday! Please share your good news, big or small, in the comments #stage4 #melbourne See more
03.01.2022 When I was a junior doctor I was robbed of weekends - working every 3-4 weekends, often rostered on for inhumane shifts. But it was only recently that I became aware of how important weekends (or any downtime) actually are. Now, I invest in my down time, knowing I am more productive, alert, and energetic after a true break. I still work occasional weekends at the clinic but I know that if I finish up by 12 I dont go home exhausted and wrung out. Investing in my weekends mak...es me a better human, and indeed it makes my heart sing. How did you recuperate this weekend? X
01.01.2022 Thanks Dr. Rikki Priest Learn Create Connect for this reminder!
01.01.2022 Today's encouragement. You matter. please stay exactly where you are. Safe. You are doing great things, just by staying home. You are worthwhile. Don't go anywhere. Just be. This too shall pass x #melbourne #stage4 #mentalhealth #youmatter
