25.01.2022 My kids and I loved Mythbusters and how they made science fun! Wait until you see what Grant Imahara from Mythbusters discovered about McDonalds French Fries ingredients https://www.facebook.com/100000110182605//2254312171249100/

25.01.2022 Sunday salads in the sun I love this particular salad for its high healthy fat content. Both salmon and avocado are super sources of omega 3 which help keep your brain healthy, help keep you fuller for longer without carbs, reduce inflammation and support the structure of every cell in your body. Awesome right?! I dressed the salad with olive oil and lemon juice - delish!

24.01.2022 The C word generally sends shivers of fear down anyones spine. Most of us have either experienced it for ourselves, or through a loved one (or two). Cancer doesnt have to be a super scary unknown. What we now know, as Dr Sarah Gottfreid shared during the week (check her out on Insta @sarahgottreidmd), is that were constantly forming microscopic clusters of cancer all the time. Our immune system works tirelessly to fight them. The good news is that the biggest lifestyle fac...tor we can control is food. Eating the following every day can reduce your risk of cancer by 30-35%: - a kilo of vegetables - anti inflammatory protein (grass fed, pasture raised, wild) - plant-based fats (avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, nuts) - slow release carbs (brown rice, whole meal breads & pasta, quinoa) The stress in our lives is also a major contributing factor. Exercising & meditating everyday, as well as getting 8 hours sleep every night are awesome ways to reduce stress. So is getting a massage, watching a funny movie, singing and hanging out with positive friends

23.01.2022 Being healthy includes living emotionally healthy practices too. Let's show some extra love and humility to our little people today

23.01.2022 Continuing with my green food theme, I made spinach & cheese scones today I literally ate them straight out of the oven - they were so delicious! A great way to sneak extra spinach into my kids diet. I even made 2 little ones for baby Ely (which he loved ). *Recipe is in the comments* As the scones were still warm when I ate mine, I cut them in half and ate them with butter. While we dont eat a lot of dairy, spreadable butter is always on hand for a couple of reasons. 1...) NEVER eat margarine. I could just stop there. But also 2) butter has some good fats in it if you buy organic, grass fed. The brain loves fat such as butter (as well as avocado, coconut oil, nuts). It is very important to buy organic, grass fed though as you dont want to be consuming any artificial hormones or antibiotics that have been injected into the cow. Grass is also a cows natural diet. Surprisingly to most people, grains such as corn and soy are not foods they would normally eat (hundreds of years ago in the wild). Theyre fed to beef cows to fatten them up and dairy cows because theyre cheaper than grass (ie - land). If you eat meat and/or consume dairy, this is why you MUST eat hormone free, free range, grass fed etc. This is especially important in relation to meat. Did you know that fat is your bodys protective mechanism? It where toxins are stored. Same with all mammals. So if you eat the fat from a cow, Im sure youd prefer to eat clean fat and not fat thats been storing hormones, antibiotics, remnants of gmo grains etc

22.01.2022 We had brown rice with steamed broccoli and tuna for lunch today. I had to be quick to get a photo before Elys chubby lil fingers grabbed all the broccoli. Food doesnt have to be fancy or take hours of preparation. Sometimes its the simple things they love most

22.01.2022 Haha yep! Comment below with a photo of your typical frustrating situations

21.01.2022 Even though its a beautiful warm sunny day here in Sydney today, some days youve gotta fill a salad bowl with quinoa, tuna and lightly steamed greens (broccoli and pak choy today). Like when youre kids have shared their colds with you Its a great way to get a Vitamin C and antioxidant packed lunch. As a mum and business owner I dont have time to get sick. Im now going to bask in the sun (natures immune booster) while eating lunch. Enjoy the day!

21.01.2022 I’ve been hiding from social media for a while. I’ve gained weight since having a baby 22 months ago. All the work I had done to retrain my brain towards healthy eating came undone during my pregnancy. I can’t explain wtf happened. Suddenly the doughnut stores I normally wouldn’t notice (because I respect myself & don’t put that shit in my body) I found myself making a beeline for whenever one came into sight. My other children loved this time, as all the nutrition rules we ...formally had in place disappeared. Nothing was out of the question - ice cream, doughnuts, lollies, cheese, pizza, chips, pretzels, so much bread! You name it, I ate. So my sugar & shit processed food addiction was back. Although I wasn’t aware & only ate such foods on ‘special’ occasions. Which increased in number as I brilliantly came up with new occasions/reasons. Oh, I’ve got my period - that means Ben & Jerry’s. Moved to I’m sure I’ve got PMS, so I’ll grab Ben & Jerry’s on my way home. And then when I got my period I was ‘allowed’ another tub, because, well, I’d gotten my period. Free pass right? As if the calories wouldn’t effect me during that time. And then there were hot chips, available at the sporting centre where my daughter plays netball on Friday afternoons. It was Friday afternoon, I was tired after a busy week, so hot chips were definitely allowed yeah? And so continued the increase in justifications, until I realised my trolley was being filled with more shit food every week & I was, not surprisingly, putting on more weight. How can I help families improve their nutrition as a fat nutritionist who’s consuming the same shit food they are? I’m not a hypocrite, I’m here to tell you the truth about food, so if I’m not eating healthy than I’m not going to lecture about you doing the same. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been replacing a lot of the crap I’ve been eating with better options. Today I went to the gym for the first time in over 6 months. While I was there it sucked massively, I feel so weak & out of alignment with my body. Today I’ve ridden the wave of endorphins & feel great. Just fucking start where you are with what you have. It can only get better.

17.01.2022 Winter is a great time for waffles! Especially green waffles I lived in America for awhile when I was a child and they were practically a staple in my diet. Back then they were as refined as they come and topped with either maple syrup or icing sugar Today I have made a much healthier version that dont even need topping - just eat warm. And yes, they turned out a shade of green because I added hemp protein. So much yes packed into that versatile plant - high in plant protein and omega 3

17.01.2022 This is the beautiful purple smoothie Miss 9 decided to make for dinner tonight. She made up her own concoction of 1/4c blueberries, 1/2 a green apple, a Weetbix, a handful of spinach and 1c rice milk It actually tasted pretty good and she was quite please with herself

16.01.2022 Your body can only utilise the nutrients you feed it to make new cells. What quality are the building blocks youre feeding your body? Are they vibrant, youthful and energy fuelled (veggies, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, fruit)? Or are they fake, denatured and energy deprived (packaged foods, fried foods, high in saturated fat, colours, flavours, preservatives and sugar)? One will build optimally working, healthy new cells, the other will contribute to building malfunctioning, tired cells. You choose your own adventure #thkk #choosehealthy

16.01.2022 This is the finding of the first global study on nutrition and the rates of death and disability from non-communicable diseases. The study calculated rates of death and DALYs - disability affected life years - basically the number of years youre alive whilst suffering from chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. The greatest dietary risk factors were:... intake of sodium - attributable to 3 million deaths & 70 million DALYs intake of whole grains - attributable to 3 million deaths & 82 million DALYs intake of fruits - attributable to 2 million deaths & 65 million DALYs Also high on the list was: intake of nuts & seeds intake of vegetables intake of omega 3s intake of protein intake of sugar sweetened beverages Take a moment as a parent to think about what habits youre teaching your children. You may think its a delightful treat to let them have that can of soft drink or juice or salty packet of chips for recess everyday, but its not! Youre setting them up to think thats what they should eat every day instead of the food nature provided such as water, fruit, nuts and seeds. Youre setting them up to live a huge percentage of their life with chronic disease and the numerous medications, side effects and physical/mental/emotional discomfort that accompany it. I know as a parent that you would NEVER want that for your child Start today, where you can, to change and give your children a life full of LIFE - energy, optimism, potential to be the best version of themselves.

15.01.2022 Would you like fries with that? Hell no!

15.01.2022 When you cbf washing 2 bowls, so you just pile up lunch and dessert in the same bowl Anyone else sick of washing up? lol #thkk

15.01.2022 Looking for weekend brunch inspiration? I found these super cute and super healthy avocado animal toasts. Did you know that avocado contains high amounts of antioxidants and healthy fats, making them anti-inflammatory and great for the brain! Recent studies have shown that avocado consumption increased macular lutein levels in the brain which means blue light protection for their eyes (great with all the screen time they have!) and improved overall cognitive function. So ma...ke sure you pop some avocados into your trolley this weekend Source: Nutrients 2016, 9(9), 919; doi:10.3390/nu9090919 https://www.taste.com.au/rec/avocado-animal-toasts/6OOu1KLo

14.01.2022 Anyone? My children seem to want these 2 dishes quite often! Are they popular in your household too? Lol I try to include the children in my weekly food planning by asking them to each select 2 recipes theyd like to have for dinner this week. That way, at least 4 of the weeks dinners are covered (so I only have to come up with 3 myself) and theres a lot less whinging about whats been cooked when dinner is served. Do you have any tips for combating weeknight dinner boredom? #thkk

11.01.2022 I remember taking a bottle of Diet Coke with me to a doctors appointment once and my doctor giving me a lecture about it. My educated response at the time was But its DIET Coke. I honestly thought I was doing a good thing, possibly even drinking a HEALTH drink, by having Diet Coke instead of regular Coke. If only then Id know about the dangers of artificial sweeteners, let alone the rest of the ingredients! Today I have many, many reasons to encourage you to NOT drink sugary fizzy beverages. And it seems theyve given you another reason #whataretheyhiding

08.01.2022 An apple a day... How do you do your apples? Ill often cut mine into quarters, de-core them & fill that middle part with peanut butter - yum! #thkk #letsgetbacktonatural

08.01.2022 As I sat down after dinner with 3 (very small) packets of sour gummy worms, my daughter asks if she can have one (1 singular gummy worm). I tell her no, because the lollies have been in the pantry since Halloween and if she hasnt eaten them by now theyre fair game for everyone. She replies in a sooky tone But we dont eat lollies in this house....Continue reading

08.01.2022 Here a some great swap ideas if you’re having trouble getting veggies in. Kids naturally LOVE fruit! Fruit is nature’s prepackaged sweets, I believe to entice us to eat them and gain a bazillion (I’m sure thats an actual number lol) vitamins, minerals and antioxidants (hello anti-aging ). Have a large selection of fruit available at home so you can pack it in your kids lunchboxes for recess and also have it available as an after school or after dinner snack

08.01.2022 My lunch date today with the cutest fatty baby bum I hope your Friday feels this freeing #fridayfeels #pantsofffriday

05.01.2022 Anyone else have children this receptive to their lunch offering today? If Ely slid any further down he was going to come out the bottom of the high chair I cant complain really - he turned down raspberry, banana and rice cereal for prawns, avocado and cucumber sticks

05.01.2022 This may be US stats, but were right behind them on the obesity scale Fill your trolley with fresh produce Its much easier to say no to the junk food & sugary beverages if theyre not in your kitchen!

04.01.2022 This short TED-X talk from Dr Mark Hyman titled What You Do With Your Fork Impacts Everything is super impactful! Here are my key takeaways: - Supermarkets are food carnivals filled with biologically addictive food... - We send kids off to school on a diet of Doritos, Flaming Hot Chips and soda and of course they cant focus or learn...we have analysis that food has enormous impact on the brain and mood and behaviour - His reference to the Native American Indians and their plight with modern food is also true for us here in Australia in relation to the Aborigines https://m.youtube.com/watch

03.01.2022 This quote from @kerwinrae hit home hard today. It relates so much to food, our relationship with it and what we intentionally or unintentionally teach our kids about its use and purpose. To many people, food is a drug. Its used as the 3pm pick up, the well done reward (the same as when training a puppy) and the shovel to bury unwanted emotions. Your habitual use of food for anything other than healthy nourishment for your body is teaching your kids the same habits. If ...you are unhappy right now with your body or your health, and you know deep down its due to your unhealthy relationship with food, you have a tough question to ask yourself; do you want your kids to suffer as you are? Because youre teaching them the same coping strategies. If you love youre children, youll own your shit and make a conscious effort to find healthier ways to pick up your energy, deal with sadness/depression/rejection and other rewards for lifes accomplishments. Im not saying its going to be easy, or that youll be perfect at it all the time, but if you dont try nothing with change. Personally, Ive found sport or exercise to be a great release of those unwanted emotions. It then also creates endorphins making you feel happier and gives you more energy. Meditation is a practise that I am still practising. Its not something I do everyday, and Im never sure why, because on the days I do meditate in the morning my mood is so much more stable throughout the day. And if I get in a meditation before bed after a particularly challenging day, I find I reflect on the day differently and then sleep much better that night. Reward your kids with going to the park or the movies or letting them choose the board game the family plays together. Share what rewards or coping strategies you use thats not food related to help inspire other parents.

02.01.2022 Could you produce no waste for 30 days? Massive challenge right?! In our house were mad on recycling - our yellow recycle bin is packed every fortnight and we have 1-2 shopping bags full of plastic bags & packaging every week. We only need to put out our red rubbish bin every 2-3 weeks. We even had to down grade the size of our kitchen bin because we recycle so much. Which Im quite proud of And its super easy to do. ... But I believe we need to reduce our overall packaging consumption - its ridiculous! When we buy produce, we put multiple items in 1 of the plastic bags that are available in the produce section, but we keep them and reuse them every week until theyre dead. We buy items such as nuts, seeds, flour, pasta and rice in bulk (5kg bags from Honest to Goodness) & then store them in containers at home. We have some sort of stretchy rubbery wrapping (they were a gift so Im not sure what theyre called lol) we put around things like avocado, cheese packets etc for storage. And my daughter has been using Apiwraps (made from beeswax) for her sandwiches since her school started rewarding students for bringing nude food or using containers & reuseable packaging for their lunches. Share below what you do to help reduce waste so we can all implement new ideas!

01.01.2022 Is sugar really as addictive as cocain? This is a very serious issue with children today and the consumption of processed foods and beverages. I love his focus on the lifestyle causes of addiction and not just addiction due to consumption.

01.01.2022 This is seriously one of the most overlooked causes of hereditary disease. As parents you have the power to break the cycle of disease. What changes are you going to make today to help yourself and your children in the future? Be strong!
