25.01.2022 Tip #188 - Get Some Cultured Food Into Your Diet =========================== Did you know that naturally cultured foods & drinks were prevalent in the diets of our ancestors as they are chock full of vitamins, live enzymes & natural probiotics? Although they are making a comeback, cultured foods are scarcely consumed by most people today, even though they help foster a healthy digestive environment & contribute to optimal overall wellness.... Cultured foods (& in particular cultured vegetables) are good for (almost) everyone, but they are particularly useful if your digestion is poor or your immune system is weak. Eating cultured food can also help if you are struggling to balance your blood sugar, want to lose weight or get frequent yeast infections. These days you can purchase high quality cultured foods at all good natural food stores, but I think knowing how to make your own is a good skill to have plus it should also save you money!! I try to include some kind of cultured food into my diet every second day (especially during Winter). Some great ideas include yoghurt, sauerkraut, kefir, tempeh, miso, kombucha & pickled vegetables. I love to eat out of a bowl & with a spoon ... So Buddha Bowls are my all time favourite meal!! They are colourful & you can pack them with anything that takes your fancy .... like this one which has the cultured foods; tempeh & red cabbage sauerkraut . In Winter I tend to add roasted veggies that are warm or room temperature like cauliflower & sweet potato ... This really is my Healthy Winter Comfort Food See more

24.01.2022 The most beautiful way to start and end the day is with a grateful heart.

23.01.2022 Life is not always a bed of roses Yes it is hard but to be honest, it really shouldn’t be any other way!! . Life would be pretty dull & boring if we didn’t have to face challenges, overcome obstacles & put in the hard yards. . It’s only then that we can sit back & reflect on our strengths & resilience we built along the journey.

22.01.2022 Tip #181 - Be More Eco Friendly At Home ========================= Want to live an eco-conscious life but not sure where to start, or whether your efforts will even make a difference? Going green can seem so overwhelming at times, and it’s so easy to think that unless you become a full scale zero waste producing eco warrior, there’s no point in really bothering!! But think about it this way ... If we all started taking more tiny steps, collectively we would make a huge di...fference. And the easiest & best way to start is at home. I’m sure you have heard the saying Reduce, Reuse & Recycle ... but how many of us are really doing this properly & what else can be done around the home to make it greener? Ditch disposable bowls, plates & cutlery - While the temptation of not having anything to wash up after a meal is hard to resist, increasing the pile of garbage left after eating is in no way helping the planet. This too applies to when you go on a picnic or get take-away; End food waste - It is believed that almost 50% of food gets thrown away ... that is astronomical!! Either buy & prepare only what you & your family are able to eat in one sitting or make sure that you actually eat the leftovers the day after or freeze them for another meal. And in regards to the scraps think composting!! Make your own - Let’s get back to how our ancestors use to live & make our own produce, personal products, clothing & cleaning supplies!! It is pretty easy & there are plenty of videos, articles & ideas available that easily to show you how; Borrow instead of buying - This is a great way to get back in touch with the community!! And as we develop into this more trusting society, there are going to be more platforms performing this role. Brett went to a Waste Not seminar @ Sutherland Library the other night & was amazed at the number of people attending of all different ages. The zero waste movement is building ... are you going to be part of it?

22.01.2022 Tip #190 - Watch What Kind Of Salt You Consume =========================== Did you know that salt (along with oxygen, water & potassium) are the primary elements for the human body to survive? ... So salt shouldn’t be considered bad for you, however the type of salt you choose to consume will really define if you have a problem with salt or not!! In fact, salt is extremely vital to our bodies & performs many important functions including :- ... Maintaining fluid in our blood & regulating acidity in our cells; Helping break down the complex carbohydrates we eat; Allowing for proper nerve & muscle function. In the stores today you are able to get a dizzying array of salts (eg sea salts, flavoured salts, kosher salt, Himalayan pink salt, table salt & many more) ... But how do you know what is best? Firstly, all salt is not created equally & there is definitely a huge difference between unrefined, mineral rich varieties (eg sea salt) versus salts that have been heavily processed & stripped of all its natural nutrients (eg table salt). Secondly, it’s all about adding flavour to meals without adding any unnatural ingredients or compounds ... Consequently I will avoid all kinds of table salt or iodised salt!! ... Alternating between Celtic Sea Salt, Himalayan Pink Salt & Organic Sea Salt seems to work best for me. What kind of salt do use to cook & season your food? See more

16.01.2022 Tip #183 - Sit Under A Tree To Reduce Stress & Boost Your Energy ========================= I think we all know by now that being in nature is great medicine for all our mental & emotional ailments. It’s not just the open green spaces or the smell of the ocean that can heal; it is specifically the vibrational properties of trees & plants that can help reduce psychological stress. Trees not only provide us with oxygen, shade & wood but they also give off healing energy of the ...beings that interact with them. To benefit from the healing powers of trees & plants is very simple & easy - you can stroll through a park, run through the woods or one of my favourites ... just sit under a gorgeous tree & listen to the sounds of birds singing & leaves rustling. *** Tip #183 - Sit Under A Tree To Reduce Stress & Boost Your Energy *** Interesting, a study carried out by the University of Michigan found that smelling the distinct organic aroma of growing trees and listening to the soothing sounds of nature - like the rustling of leaves - stimulates your brain’s frontal lobe & increases production of energy-boosting beta waves which can literally double your energy in as little as 10 minutes ... So not only does it seem that surrounding ourselves with trees & nature can reduce our stress but also boost our energy!! If you are following my posts, you would know that there is nothing I enjoy more than getting out amongst the trees & forests. I find it brings me so much clarity & calmness!! So why not give it a try? See more

15.01.2022 Take a moment today to stay still, in calm, and pay full attention to what is going on both inside & outside of your body, moment by moment, and without judgement.

15.01.2022 Tip #184 - Try Some Alternative Warm Drinks This Winter ========================= Instead of just settling for your usual tea, coffee, hot chocolate or even chai, why not give these wonderful winter warmers a go:- Mulled Wine - Chock full of ingredients that are actually really beneficial to your health - red wine, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, honey & orange. A little tipple of this can help improve memory, lower cholesterol, boost heart health, ease constipation, fight inflamm...ation and ward off against colds & flu - bottoms up; Hot Toddy - Made with hot water, whiskey, honey, & lemon juice, this ancient medicinal tea was known to reduce a fever, fight pneumonia & eliminate pain (back in the day). The honey & lemon will certainly help with sore throats & reducing a cough & the whisky ... well that just might help you sleep a bit better; Tumeric Latte - AKA Golden Milk, this ancient Indian drink is gaining popularity in Western cultures as it boosts immunity, wards off illnesses & tastes fabulous. This bright yellow drink is made by warming up some milk (almond or coconut seems to work well) & adding turmeric, cinnamon, honey, vanilla & ginger - A great alternative to have at your trendy cafe; Spiced Coconut Almond Milk - Containing ginger, almond milk & coconut oil, this healthy drink just might be what you need on a cold day. As comforting as it is cozy, help fIght off the cold & flu by sipping on this winter wonder. Winter is such a great time to put a pot on the cook top, brew up something warming & yummy and sit by the window sipping it slowly & watching the world go by (or read a good book). The above options are quick, easy & bit of fun to make. What winter warmers do you like to make / drink? See more

13.01.2022 Tip #189 - Grow Your Own Vegetables ========================= Growing your own vegetables can seem overwhelming to some, but it is actually much simpler that it sounds. Even if you don’t have a yard, consider starting a patio / balcony garden or even an indoor herb garden on a windowsill. You’ll be amazed at how many items can grow out of one simple pot!! An organic vegetable garden is a great way to feed you & your family the healthiest possible produce as you are the per...son in control of the soil, water & other additives used!! All it takes is a little time, energy, love & nous and soon you will have the best vegetable garden in the street. Not only will you be able to eat fresh, wholesome & nutritious vegetables but also growing a vegetable garden is great fun for the kids, gets you doing some outdoor activities, is a natural stress reliever & (eventually) will save you money. Today there are all kinds of ways & vessels to grow your vegetables - pots, containers, pallets, vertical wall gardens, raised beds & multiple rows ... It is only restricted by your imagination!! Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, mint, spring onion, parsley & basil are considered some of the easiest vegetables to grow ... So why not give it a go this Spring & let me know what varieties are growing in your household See more

11.01.2022 Tip #187 - Watch What Spills Out Of Your Cup ========================= You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along & bumps you making you spill of coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? Well because someone bumped into me, of course ... WRONG ANSWER!!... You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in your cup, you would have spilled tea!! Obviously, whatever is inside of the cup, is going to spill out ... Therefore, when life comes along & shakes you around, whatever is inside of you is going to come out!! ... Agree?? These days it is pretty easy in life to fake it, until you get rattled or hit a wall ... So we have to then ask ourselves - What is really in my cup? ... When life gets tough, what spills over (or out)? Is it joy, gratefulness, peace or humility? OR Anger, bitterness, harsh words or nasty reactions? YOU DECIDE!! See more

09.01.2022 Tip #182 - Consider Using Natural Alternatives Instead Of Drugs =========================== Whilst modern medicine has certainly prevented many diseases from now killing us, helped us live longer & improved pain & suffering, is it really the be all to end all option when it comes to the management of pain & illness? Lets be real here, a lot of the drugs & medicine subscribed by our medical professionals, whilst helpful, are only treating the symptoms of the pain or illness... - they are not actually treating the real cause of the problem ... Not to mention the many side effects that occur if consumed for a long period of time!! It is up to each one of us to look deeper into what is actually causing the problem in the first place & make the required changes to stop it naturally!! Below are 6 alternative options to some of the every day drugs / medicine for you to consider:- Pain Relief - Replace Nurofen with Turmeric, Ginger & Berries; Lowering Cholesterol - Replace Lipitor with Tomatoes, Apples, Nuts, Olive Oil & Garlic; Taking Antibiotics - Replace Amoxicillin with Vitamin D(sun), Turmeric & Pure Oregano Oil Reflux Symptoms - Replace antacids / Gaviscon with Honey, Grapefruit & Sprouts; Reducing high blood pressure - Replace Lisinopril / Zestril with Citrus fruits, Dark Chocolate, Bananas & Leafy Green Vegies; Thyroid Issues - Replace Levothyroxine with Seaweed, Radishes & Bananas. Now I am in no way suggesting anyone on medication to simple stop ... However, there is so much proof out there of people with chronic conditions taking medications, then making huge changes to their diet, lifestyle & environment and eventually getting off the drugs completely. Sadly today we are not always being told the true & real story in so many areas of life ... It is up to us to be fully responsible for our health and take back control & look after ourselves!! 09.01.2022 Self-care is the key that unlocks the gateway to optimal living. . If you don't look after yourself, you cannot look after others. . 09.01.2022 Tip #180 - Break Your Time & Tasks Into 10-15 Minute Chunks To Improve Productivity ========================= Want to be super productive no matter how much time you have available??? Break everything down into 10-15 minute blocks of time. At the beginning of each day work out exactly what needs to be done, how long it will take you to do it & how much time you will have free throughout the day and then allocate the tasks accordingly.... To give you some examples ... Have an hour commuting to & from work (heaven) .. Listen to podcasts to boost knowledge or motivation if you are driving or work on a major project if you are catching public transport; Have a 30 minute window before the kids get out of bed in the morning .. Do some exercise; Sneak in 10 minutes before picking up the kids from school .. Jot down the weeks shopping list or (if stressed) meditate. Even if you have a major project that requires hours of your time to complete, you can break a section or component down into small bitesize bits that can be completed in 10-20 minutes and use one of your allotted chunks to tick this off!! And, if you are one of those people that say they have absolutely no time spare to do anything that you think is important, then you really need to take a good hard look at your life because no matter who you are, you have time to do those things that are truly important to you!! 07.01.2022 Tip #186 - Keep Moving ================= Worms will not eat living wood where the vital sap is flowing, Rust will not hinder the opening of the gate when the hinges are used each day, Movement gives health & life, Stagnation brings disease & death. (Chinese Proverb) ... Being sedentary has now become the norm as most of us have the luxury to ask why run? why jump? why climb? when everything is just so easy & accessible to obtain ... when you are no longer forced to move & catch your prey or avoid being prey!! Most people have become disconnected from their mind & body, working in jobs that no longer require our bodies - simply sitting at desks clicking on a mouse or tapping on a keyboard ... Proper movement is now ignored & forgotten!! We now only notice our bodies when "something goes wrong" with it. We have, in effect, betrayed our bodies, ignoring & dishonouring them by using them purely as a locomotive device" to transport our head!! Exercise is optional but movement is essential ... Movement is inbuilt in all of us - Hunting and gathering, dancing round the fire, walking, climbing, running, jumping, crawling, lifting, swimming, fighting & even sex ... These are all movements the human body is designed for. A lot of research now points towards us needing more movement in our lives, as opposed to exercise to remain healthy. For example, no amount of exercise will undo the pathology of sitting around & remaining sedentary ... Conversely, you could go your whole life without ever doing exercise but instead move as part of your everyday life and remain healthy. If you train, then train movement, & not muscles ... Find out what movement really means to you!! For most, moving is about being in the present moment, enjoying what you are actually doing ... Not pounding the pavement kilometre after kilometre or pushing your body through respective exercises!! Let’s get back to how our ancestors were required to move & reap all the benefits!! See more

07.01.2022 The good you put out into the world will return to you in abundance. May this quote from H.Jackson Brown Jr inspire you to be a giver!! Giving more will take your life to a new level & help you be of service to those who need it.

05.01.2022 We are what we eat!! ... Be mindful of what you eat because Food is thy medicine & Medicine is thy food . All we need is what Mother Nature gifted us right in her very backyard.

03.01.2022 Tip #185 - Consider Hula Hooping For A Bit Of Fun & Exercise =========================== Hula hooping is an enjoyable & cost-effective way to generate movement & health benefits. Touted by (former First Lady) Michelle Obama as a great activity to promote children's health, more & more adults are picking up the hoop!! The smooth, repetitive hip gyrations associated with hula hooping help strengthen your core muscles & tone your body. Amazingly hooping works about 30 muscle...s in & around your body's core and can help strengthen your lower back stabilising muscles - which is beneficial to those with a history of back pain. Hooping is a great low-impact activity that helps regulate body weight & build cardiovascular endurance - 1 hour of intense hooping is the equivalent of an hour-long run on a treadmill!! The rhythmic, oscillatory nature of hooping helps mobilise your joints & brings movement into your spine that helps move nutrients into your intervertebral discs. The increased body awareness & improved posture associated with hooping helps balance your muscle tone & reduce unnecessary wear & tear on your joints, helping avoid back problems. I must admit it is only on a very rare occasion I have hula hopped but I did learn it at a yoga convention. Surprisingly, it’s not that hard once you get your rhythm, it’s all systems go. It certainly is a bit of fun, it makes you giggle like you’re a kid again & you quickly lose all judgement of what you look like ... I think I might add this to the next Pilates circuit See more

01.01.2022 Easy Air is the oil that gets the biggest workout in our family!! . I use it before going for my morning walk. Just a few drops on my cupped palms & then a few big deep breaths in & I’m ready!! ... . I’d love to hear how you use Easy Air. See more

01.01.2022 Tip #179 - Don’t Quit =============== I came across this poem from John Greenleaf Whittier the other day that really resonated with me & wanted to share as one of our health tips .................. When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you’re thrashing seems all uphill, When the funds are low & the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don’t you quit. Success is failure t...urned inside out, The silver tint in the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It might be near when it seems far, So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit, It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit. We all have moments in our life when we want to throw in the towel or run the other way but quitting has never solved anything! I am regularly hearing about people no longer doing this degree, or giving up on that path, or stopping doing that passion ... and it is making me so sad Here are some ideas that just might help stop giving up on that goal: Life isn't about talk; it's about commitment - A dream isn't worth anything until you take some action, work at it regularly & turn it into your reality; Resilience & adaptation are keys to a vibrant life & healthy mind - Setbacks, failures & disappointments are actually good for you. They can be the best education you can ever get, as they teach you to adapt; Quitting can become a habit - If you give up on the things that matter to you most, you will give up on anything when things don't go the way you hoped; Self-belief is everything - Giving up on important goals is just like giving up on yourself; Values are so important - Persisting with goals through the hard times shows character & high values. This then builds resilience, confidence & makes you a much better person. So what does not quitting really mean? It means believing in yourself, the willingness to accept "failure" so you can learn, not compromising on your values and living the life you want & are passionate about ... Don’t be a quitter!!
