24.01.2022 Does the thought of skipping "stress" you out? Do you wee a little (or a lot) when you exercise, cough or sneeze? When we leak urine from an external "stress" on the body, we call this Stress Urinary Incontinence.... This is a common, but very treatable condition! If you experience urine leaking and you would like to know more, have a look at our latest blog post on Stress Urinary Incontinence or book an appointment with one of our physios today! 24.01.2022 Did I hear "discount"? It's become my new favourite word in isolation. I feel like just about everywhere is having sales at the moment (hello, new exercise tights ) So I thought, yeah. Why not have a sale too?... All online appointments $100 during isolation! (up to 45% off ) Book in online (website in bio) or send me an enquiry to find out more! And if you know someone who should see a women's health physio and needs a little nudge, share this post to them! #womenshealthphysio #pelvicfloorphysio #telehealth #pelvicpain #incontinence #prolapse #constipation

23.01.2022 Feeling a bit stressed out and overwhelmed lately? Me too. Being in isolation (even for this closet extrovert) is hard for everyone. We're all in this together and we'll all come out of this stronger and fresher with a new idea of how work life balance can be managed differently.... I don't know about you guys, but I've spent way more time with my husband in the last 8 weeks than I have in yonks. And it's been lovely. Being greatful for some of the things coming out of iso is helping me to not rip off anyone's head when they stand to close to me in public. And remember, @beyondblueofficial is available for chats anytime you feel this is all getting a bit much for you. #glasshalffullapproach Credit: image unknown

20.01.2022 Happy National Orgasm Day! What a great day to celebrate! Orgasms are simply the explosive release of sexual tension. ... Orgasm however, can be such a touchy subject for some women (pun intended ). Sometimes we have earth shaking whole body vibration warrior screaming orgasm. Sometimes we have orgasms that are so underwhelming they make you go "was that it?". Sometimes we don't orgasm at all. But orgasms are a multifaceted body reaction - we have to have the right sexy context, the right build up, the right headspace, even the right temperature of our feet! And it's different for everyone - you have to find out what makes you tick - and then tickle that! You also need to find out what shuts it down - and learn to free that from your mind! (like asking yourself what should I cook for dinner, or did I turn the straightener off etc. In the middle of you climb!) If you have questions about orgasm, libido or anything sex related, feel free to reach out! #nationalorgasmday #orgasm #sexEd #sexualhealth #womenshealthphysio #pelvicfloorphysio #pelvicpain #incontinence #prolapse #constipation #pregnancy #postnatal #pelvicfloor #exercise

19.01.2022 Do you sometimes feel like your pelvic floor has a weight sitting on it? If we liken our pelvic floor to a hammock and pull it mostly tight both sides, we see that it's lifted and almost flat from point a to point b. If we loosen it off a little and sit an object in the hammock, it'll weigh it down in the middle.... This analogy is a little like pelvic organ prolapse. And this may be the heaviness you're feeling. Check out my new blog post on Pelvic Organ Prolapse on the website now! #POP #PelvicOrganProlapse

19.01.2022 Hey Guys, I'm very passionate about advocating for women's health and informed birth decisions! If you believe that all women deserve access to physios after delivering, please sign the petition! Thanks!

14.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all Mothers! Especially to my beautiful Mum, @madaboutmish Sending special Mothers Day love to all the Mothers whose special little angels are here in spirit instead. You are all beautiful Mums.

12.01.2022 Today marks the first day of World Continence Week! We've all heard the phrase "leaking is common but not normal" being thrown around over the past few years, and I think that destigmatising leaking with exercise has been a great movement, opening up the doors for discussion in encouraging women to seek help. There are many causes for bladder and anal incontinence that can start at many different phases in a person's life - from a young pubescent athlete, a pregnant or post-p...artum women or possibly only after menopause or cancer treatment. Maybe it happens when you sneeze or lift weights? Maybe it happens when you put your key in the door or rush to the toilet? Maybe it just happens throughout the day and you don't even notice it! If it does happen to you, frequent or not, come and talk to me about it. Sometimes it really is a simple fix and a bit of education about your body. Sometimes we need to delve a little deeper. Be part of the change to advocate for your own health and the health of millions of men and women. Talk about it with your friends or doctor. Ask for help. Don't suffer in silence. #womenshealthphysio #pelvicfloorphysio #pelvicpain #incontinence #prolapse #constipation #pregnancy #postnatal #pelvicfloor #exercise

11.01.2022 Does this toilet seem really far away to you? Does that stress you out a bit? Feeling like you can't be too far away from a toilet in case you get an urgent desire to wee is a common feeling in those suffering from Over-active Bladder Syndrome.... 08.01.2022 In the spirit of Women's Health Week and for all things peach related, I'd like to introduce an amazing book that I think all women should read - Period Queen, by the fantastic woman that is @lucyspeaches. If you think having a period is ugh, have a read of this book, or listen to Lucy's podcast about learning to love your cycle, and how to make the most out of each phase! (what? There's phases? Ya gurl!) Remember we are cyclical creatures living in a linear world. We need to... embrace our ups and downs and learn to maximise our energy! #womenshealthphysio #pelvicfloorphysio #pelvicpain #incontinence #prolapse #constipation #pregnancy #postnatal #pelvicfloor #vulva #sexeducation #painfulsex

08.01.2022 Today I thought I'd share a little insight into the importance of bowel routine and optimising the timing of our defaecation! Focus points: Only attempt to defecate when you have the urge! Allow yourself an hour of rest and digest when you first wake up to facilitate colonic movement and get the stool to your rectum... Double your colonic waves by eating or having a coffee! Avoid exercise in the first hour as this slows your colonic activity down Be in an optimal location that allows you to defecate when you get the urge (i.e. Not in the car!) If you're having trouble with constipation (which can be sneaky and present as diarrhoea), reach out and seek medical guidance from your GP and Women's health physio

07.01.2022 Who wants to learn about ribcage and diaphragmatic mobility and the pelvic floor!! This is definitely one of my favourite things to teach because it's effect is multifaceted! Deep breathing that enables full diaphragmatic range of motion and good rib mobility allows our pelvic floor to concurrently move through a large range of motion. This means we build good flexibility in the pelvic floor tissues which improves pelvic floor reactivity, function and the also important... ability to relax! We call this synchronicity "The Piston Effect" (research done by @juliewiebept the guru!) If our ribcage is unable to move through its full range of motion, at a rate slow enough to build tension in the tissues, we also lose out on range of motion in the pelvic floor! This can lead to issues like pelvic pain and stress urinary incontinence. The other amazing effect that breathing has on our body is switching us from sympathetic drive (flight or flight) back into our parasympathetic state (rest and digest). Often when we live busy stressful lives or suffer from chronic illness and pain, or body gets stuck in sympathetic dominance - our breath rate is shallow and fast, we feel breathless easily and fatigue quickly. This sympathetic state creates increased tension in the body, diverts blood flow from our digestive system to our limbs (so we can run away easier!) and increases our release of stress hormones. Ultimately, we're left feeling drained, unrefreshed from sleep, and wound up in the pelvic floor from lack of tissue range of motion If you feel like you frequently experience: - Breathlessness or inability to take a deep breath - Chest pain or tightness - Tenseness - Blurred vision / dizzy spells - Bloating - Stiffness or tingling in the fingers or arms - Cold hands or feet - Heart palpitations - Feelings of anxiety - Pain or tightness in the vagina - Pain with intercourse, urinating or defecating You may be experiencing the symptoms of poor breathing patterns. Always seek medical advice from your GP to rule out anything sinister and then touch base with your women's health physio to discuss breathing strategies Video credit: @thinkbeyondpain

07.01.2022 This month's blog touches on menopause In this month's blog I discuss the wild ride that can be menopause! If you think you are experiencing some of these symptoms, remember it doesn't have to be a hard, lonely, journey. Speak to your GP, see a Dietician/naturopath, a Physio and an exercise physiologist.... I promise with a good, knowledgeable team supporting your menopause journey, your symptom experience doesn't have to be that bad. #womenshealthphysio #pelvicfloorphysio #pelvicpain #incontinence #prolapse #constipation #pregnancy #postnatal #pelvicfloor #vulva #sexeducation #painfulsex #menopause

06.01.2022 Are you drinking more than usual in iso? Fact: alcohol is a known bladder irritant and can cause increased colon motility leading to episodes of diarrhoea. If you've noticed your bladder or bowel symptoms increased lately, check in with how much alcohol you've been consuming.... #drinkresponsibly Credit: image unknown

02.01.2022 Today's video is about BEARS! Just kidding it's actually about STRESS! We have 2 autonomic nervous systems - sympathetic (fight / flight) - parasympathetic (rest / digest)... Both systems play really important roles, and we want to be able to move between the systems when it's appropriate. Our Sympathetic system protects us from danger! If someone jumps out at you in the dark and you run the fastest you've ever run in your life to save yourself, you can thank Sympathetic nervous system for that! For the rest of our days though, we want to be coming back down into a parasympathetic system to allow our bodily functions like storing urine, defecating, digesting food and having sex to be able to function properly. If you're having trouble with these bodily functions, it could be a sign that you're body is caught in a stress cycle, one I like to call FREEZE! To learn more about completeing your stress response cycle and coming out of STRESS into DIGEST watch out for my next video! #womenshealthphysio #pelvicfloorphysio #pelvicpain #incontinence #prolapse #constipation #pregnancy #postnatal #pelvicfloor #exercise #stress #sympatheticdominance #parasympathetic #restanddigest
