21.01.2022 Look at this little cutie!! Meet Archer who was 5 months old when we started working together. He had always been a poor sleeper due to reflux and colic in the early days. He was held and rocked to sleep and had a feed sleep association. Archer was waking frequently in the night and catnapping during the day. Archer was an absolute champion and did so well on his personalised sleep plan. What a little winner! Needless to say they're all feeling refreshed, well rested, and al...ive again! ‘My Bub was waking multiple times through the night and a chronic cat napper through the day. I wasn’t getting a break or anything done around the house and Bub was always grumpy. With Mel’s help he now sleeps through the night and has decent naps! He is a much happier little boy now and knows his routine. We just went away for 2 nights and he slept through both nights and continued to nap great in a new environment. I couldn’t be happier with the results! Mel is not only very knowledgeable but also very lovely and genuinely cares about her clients. Having her support daily was a massive help and I now have a great little sleeper! Thankyou so much Mel you’re amazing! ’ If you too are stuck in a cycle of night wakings, sleep props, and catnaps, start sleeping now and book in your free 15 minute consultation to see how I can help you

19.01.2022 WHAT I DO .... It wasn’t until I had my own children that I understood the need to teach them how to sleep and even help them to recognise the difference between night and day. You may be like me, I once thought that sleep came naturally to babies and for some it does, but unfortunately NOT for others. I have come to understand the importance of teaching children the skills they need to sleep independently. I am a paediatric/emergency Nurse, Midwife, Certified Sleep SenseT...M* Consultant and also a proud mother of 2 happy children, who love sleep. Frankie and Harvey are the reason I started The Heart of Sleep. As babies, they made me realise how important sleep is and how sleep deprivation can affect the whole family. After implementing the Sleep SenseTM program with my children and seeing the results first hand, I am excited to share this program with other families. With my experience as a midwife and my qualification as a Sleep SenseTM consultant I am well equipped to get your child on an age appropriate schedule. They will then be sleeping through the night and napping well during the day! The Heart of Sleep takes a holistic approach which educates, supports, encourages and empowers you, as you guide your baby or toddler toward sleeping more peacefully and independently. I will only ever ask you, to do what you feel comfortable with. I respect that all parents and children are different and that’s why it is important to me that I personalise the plan to suit the needs of each individual family.

17.01.2022 Swaddling is a safe, effective way to sooth babies and help them sleep. If your baby cries when you swaddle them it could be one or more of the following reasons 1. Your baby might be overtired when you begin to swaddle them, making it much more difficult 2. You’re swaddling your baby too loosely 3. Your baby is not used to the new arm position, and crying is a way of letting you know... 4. You’re swaddling your baby too tightly, not allowing for enough room to breathe and to rotate their hips. The secret of swaddling is keeping the arms snug, while leaving the blanket loose around the knees and hips so your baby can bend and move them. Recognising your baby’s tired signs and getting them into the swaddle before being overtired and fussy. Once your baby has started to roll, you shouldn’t use a swaddle.

11.01.2022 Tired signs often get confused with signs of hunger. Which can lead to feeding your baby again instead of putting your baby to bed. This can lead to a baby falling asleep during the feed which creates an undesirable sleep feed association and an overtired baby. Get your baby into the EAT, PLAY, SLEEP routine to avoid this.

09.01.2022 I like this article a lot. Interesting read about a baby’s brain development and how we can support this. ‘The way we parent will have a major impact on how these brains grow’. I want to know more about this, so I am making an impact in a positive way for my children. For a baby to create connectors between two neurons, the secret ingredient is experience and this experience needs to be repeated in order for that neural highway to become stable.
