17.01.2022 Why was The Hey Mate Project crested ? The short answer is because our community needs us. We have here for proactive and preventative wellness / mental health support and education. Earlier this year, digital distribution platform Record Union shared the results of a survey conducted with almost 1,500 musicians. 10.01.2022 Mindfulness Meditation It is certainly a word the gets thrown around a lot these days but have you ever thought of the benefits ? The research tells us that practising mindfulness does have some benefits for mental health wellbeing and for managing depression and anxiety. It is also helpful when it comes to managing some long-term physical conditions, helping the patient to better deal with pain or discomfort. Many people who practise mindfulness report a number of tang...ible benefits, such as: Improved memory Better concentration More flexibility in their thinking Greater ability to focus Less rumination (when the mind gets over chatty!) Better stress management Higher satisfaction with relationships and quality of life So, why not give it a red hot crack? If you need some guidance one of our MATES can support you in the process. #mindfullnes #theheymateproject #ruokday2020

09.01.2022 With the lifting of restrictions in Melbourne and around the rest of Australia there has been a wave of celebrations that we can see friends and family again. For some people, however, the idea of reconnecting with the outside world may provoke other anxieties. Because we haven’t experienced anything like the coronavirus pandemic in recent history, we simply don’t know how our community will readjust as restrictions ease. Some people may feel particularly anxious about reconn...ecting. For example, people with social anxiety might experience heightened anxiety about the prospect of socialising again. Meanwhile, people who fear germs, such as some people with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), might worry about re-entering public spaces. Whether you have previously experienced anxiety or not, there are several strategies you can use to manage your worries around re-engaging. Talk to someone, there are so many great therapies that can aid in anxiety so connecting with a counsellor or therapist is always a good idea. Mindfulness, regular exercise and getting enough sleep can also help manage anxiety. Finally, just know that you’re not alone and there are people out there that can relate and support you. #theheymateproject @splendourinthegrass

04.01.2022 It’s not always obvious that someone is struggling. It’s not always obvious that someone is just pretending to be okay. On the outside, it might look like life is a bed of roses for the other person.... Sadly, what we fail to comprehend is that even though the thorns go unnoticed, they do prick regardless. So, be kind. What’s on the inside doesn’t always reflect on the outside. . . .
