25.01.2022 Update #581 - Reopening 2.0 Begins - We’ll be throwing open the courtyard doors from 8am Wednesday morning, and welcoming you all back to have a sit down at The Hidden Kitchen! As we all know, it’s been a while since the last time you could rest your legs with us, but as from tomorrow, you can rest away, catch up with friends & family, bring down your fur baby, enjoy some breakfast or lunch and delicious coffee and sweet things, and get some sun in our little bit of hidden paradise :) All of us at The Hidden Kitchen would like to thank all of you for your tremendous support over the last few months, without your continued patronage, chats and smiles, we’d be in a much different place than we are today. So from all of us to all of you, thank you, thank you, thank you And we’ll see you in the shop and outside soon!

21.01.2022 There’s a few tubs of used coffee grounds outside the shop if anybody wants them for their garden. Just bring back the tubs when you’re done so we can refill them

21.01.2022 Cast your eyes over our fridge of delight, marvel at the huge range of $5 heat-at-home meals, revel at our homemade slices & treats, feast your optical nerves on our delicious rolls & sandwiches, indulge your nasal cavities with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked Sunday-morning scones, allow yourself to communicate with your sixth sense, which is willing you to purchase a piece or two of our famous vanilla slice. Or just pop down, grab a coffee and say hi. Whichever works for you...

18.01.2022 We’ve been working on the courtyard the last week or so, getting things ready ahead of (fingers crossed) good news this Sunday. Hopefully we’ll be able to throw the doors open on Monday and have you all back in again!

17.01.2022 I’ve got a horrible feeling this is the way 2020 is going to ‘end’...

14.01.2022 If you’re unfamiliar with this delicious sweet little snack, they’re called Sopapillas, and originate from South America. Golden puff pastry, slathered in butter then baked until crispy then dipped in more butter before being rolled in spiced cinnamon sugar. They’re amazing with a coffee, but even better if you dip them into a boozy, rum-laced, hot chocolate at 9:30 in the morning... #justsayin

10.01.2022 It’s Thursday, which means it’s Bec-day at The Hidden Kitchen! And Bec loves her Lemon Meringue Muffins, as I’m sure you all do too. Make sure you get down quickly as these lovely looking, and tasty delights will no doubt move fast :)

09.01.2022 Well that's the food sorted on Christmas Day then...

09.01.2022 Bec has done it again! Look at these stunners! Back by popular demand, these Lemon Meringue Muffins will not last long this morning. Get down quick if you’re already licking your lips :)

07.01.2022 GOOD MORNING TOOTGAROOK!!

05.01.2022 Did somebody say ‘I need to buy Christmas Presents and stocking fillers’? If you didn’t, maybe you should practice out load, then come down to The Hidden Kitchen and pick some up! (Also, remember to pay for them before you leave, cos that helps...) Jams, Jellies, Preserves, Chutneys, Relishes and Oils. All hand made and home made by us, featuring local, seasonal produce (home grown where possible) and all without artificial anything. Just the way grandma used to make them (ha...d she been a chef...) $7.50 each, or any three for $20. Perfect for those last minute gifts, teacher/dance instructor/soccer coach's gifts, secret Santa’s or for those you have no idea what to get for them at all. Available both here and at @thekitchentootgarook and they’re already flying off the shelves, so get down quickly if you don’t want to end up at the plaza at 10pm on Christmas Eve... 'cos that isn't ever nice... See more

05.01.2022 We’re on the hunt for lemons! If you’ve got a lemon tree in your backyard (or the neighbour’s) bring us in a bag and we’ll gladly swap you for two large and delicious takeaway coffees! There’s a bonus sausage roll to the first person to drop a bag off too!

05.01.2022 We will be closing early today to sneak off for a staff get together at @thepigandwhistlemainridge tonight before the silly season begins in a week or two! We’ll be picking up the tab with your tips that you either placed in our jars, or added to your online orders, and we’ll be raising a drink to all of you that supported all of us during the last crazy months of lockdown. So a huge thank you to every one of our amazing customers, we wouldn’t be here without you! Also, please excuse any surly/slow staff members you may encounter tomorrow and I’m going to guess, part payment in Nurofen/Panadol will not be frowned upon...

04.01.2022 You ‘cannoli’ hope these taste as good as they look! Actually, there’s no hope involved, because you can trust me when I say they do taste as good as they look :) lemon ricotta cannoli or choc chip ricotta cannoli, and are they are simply stunning. Available from our fridge of delights, right above our huge range of $5 heat at home meals, and right next to our famous vanilla slice, and slightly elevated from wonderfully stuffed Turkish and ciabatta rolls. Brilliant!

04.01.2022 I always enjoy the annual quince blossom in the garden at home. It’s a sure sign that spring is here and warmer times are well on their way. Even if you’re not a fan of quince - they are rather fiddly to prepare, and taste completely horrid unless cooked for hours with mountains of sugar, I think growing the tree just for the flowers alone, is worth the space in your garden. Having flippantly dismissed them though, you can all be rest assured that we’ll be patiently fiddling ...with these around February time. Peeling, coring and then slow cooking them for hours while getting third degree burns on our arms from the sugary paste spitting out of the pan at us.. Just so we can stick a label on them and sell home grown, homemade Quince Paste at the shops. It is a labour of love, but there’s seriously nothing quite like a nice chunk of crumbly Stilton (having been brought to room temperature for an hour or two beforehand of course) skilfully balanced on a digestive biscuit and then bejewelled with a thin, trembling sliver of ruby red quince paste on the summit... I can taste it already - I can also envisage painfully picking off blobs of solidified lava from my forearms in a few months time. But, as they say, No wince, No Quince huh? See more

04.01.2022 Banoffee Pies - Featuring hand made, hand rolled, biscuity crackly, shorter-than-Danny-DeVito-short crust pastry filled with a slow cooked dulce de leche toffee that’s sweeter than a chocolate dipped Shirley Temple, before being liberally doused with freshly sliced banana and then smothered in a spiced sweet whipped cream Chantilly and sticky drippings of a caramel toffee sauce. You’ll get four to five serves out of each one, and at $15 each, I’m pretty sure they won’t last long with a descriptive like the above...

04.01.2022 Full Time, Part Time & Casual staff are required both for front of house and back of house roles at The Kitchen - Chefs, Bar Staff, Baristas, Waiters, Runners & Kitchen Hands! Hospitality experience is a must! Please send though a copy of of your current resume, along with a brief cover letter, and the type of role you are applying for to - [email protected] and we’ll get you in for a chat and maybe have a stare at a laptop...
