22.01.2022 Such pretty colours on these little beauties from the Huon Valley. Holes in the net might be a bit big! #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing #dryflyfishing #learntoflyfish #troutguide #catchandrelease

21.01.2022 Nice day on the water for a local family. Not too fussed by all the visitors! #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing #wetflyfishing #learntoflyfish #troutguide #catchandrelease #blackswan

21.01.2022 Still loving the colour of this guy. The belly was almost glowing. Ready to be caught again. #catchandrelease #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutguide #browntrout #wetflyfishing #wetfly #stillwaterflyfishing

20.01.2022 A certain lake in the Central Highlands that offers both browns and rainbows did it's stuff today. Windiest day I can remember in ages (of course) but good to get out there. #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #flyfishingtasmania #wetflyfishing #wetfly #centralhighlandstasmania

18.01.2022 Just a reminder that there are still places for our Herne Lodge Introduction to Fly Fishing days. And of course you'll be able to claim the Tasmanian Government $50 Experience voucher to reduce the price. www.thehighlandfly.com.au/herne

17.01.2022 Boat ramp at Penstock looking good, but the ice above it reminds us how cold it's been. And the Lady's Walk is all snow and ice. But there are fish to be caught. #troutguidetasmania #tryflyfishing #centralhighlandstasmania @ Penstock Lagoon

16.01.2022 2 days, 2 lakes, 2 very different outcomes. Day 1, windy, cold. Day 2, still and glassy.... The photos tell you which conditions the fish preferred! #centralhighlandstasmania #catchandrelease #stillwaterflyfishing #browntrout #flyfishingtasmania #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing

15.01.2022 Beautiful morning on Macquarie Harbour

15.01.2022 Fishing with a family who have caught up for the first time in a while was great fun. None of the boys had tried fly fishing before, and so we were chuffed to get a couple of nice browns out of Arthurs. #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing #dryflyfishing #learntoflyfish #troutguide #catchandrelease

13.01.2022 Woods Lake Tasmania - hard work, but a few rewards. #catchandrelease #wetflyfishing #tasmaniantroutfishing #stillwaterflyfishing #troutguidetasmania

12.01.2022 The weather has gone a bit wintry in Tassie's Central Highlands today. #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing

11.01.2022 Never cease to be amazed at how bright the colours are in our Central Highlands fish. Glad to get a few in before the weather closes in over the next few days. #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #wetflyfishing #wetfly #catchandrelease #tryflyfishing @ Shannon

08.01.2022 The fish had company today. Plenty of frogs in the background and platypus popping up here and there. #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing #wetflyfishing #learntoflyfish #troutguide #catchandrelease #platypus

08.01.2022 Slippery little sucker! Or, actually, not so little. 52cm beautiful brown rounded of a great couple of days for guy! This one was for the smoker! #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing #wetflyfishing #learntoflyfish #troutguide #smokedtrout

08.01.2022 With the new season only just around the corner it's good fun to be able to practice in the Derwent River in and around Hobart. Although sea-runners are the ultimate prize, there are still some great resident brown trout accessible from the shore. This blue-cheeked specimen took the fly yesterday afternoon. Good fun, and of course he lives to fight another day!

07.01.2022 Based on the success and popularity of our previous Introductory Fly Fishing Days we've decided to schedule another one - Saturday 13 March 2021. www.thehighlandfly.com.au/herne

07.01.2022 Fantastic afternoon yesterday exploring a few of the more accessible lagoons in the Western Lakes. Polaroiding and casting to smutting fish. Too much fun! #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing #dryflyfishing #learntoflyfish #troutguide #catchandrelease #19lagoons #polaroiding

06.01.2022 Rainbow day today. At 54cm this one offered great sport on the 5 wt. Wind was crazy. #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing #dryflyfishing #learntoflyfish #troutguide #catchandrelease #rainbowtrout

06.01.2022 Arthurs offered up a PB to Guy today. The fish weren't plentiful, but there were a few crackers on offer. #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing #dryflyfishing #learntoflyfish #troutguide #catchandrelease

06.01.2022 Even though we won't be seeing them again for some time, it's good to be reminded of what our international friends think of the trout fishery in Tasmania and our associated fly fishing. Here's an interview with a member of the 2019 Champion French team and his Tasmanian experience (courtesy of Inland Fisheries Tasmania). Like what you see? Then get in touch and I can take you to some of the championship venues.

05.01.2022 Another water i'll need to have a look at!

05.01.2022 Late this afternoon at Penstock Lagoon this beautiful hen took a wet fished from the shore. Close enough to 60cm and fat as a football! Still places on offer at our Central Highlands fly fishing classes over the next three months. Check out my website if you're interested or pick up a flyer from your local tackle store. www.thehighlandfly.com.au

04.01.2022 It was a rainbow day today. Catch of the day was a 57cm hen. A few browns showed up here and there, but the rainbows were super enthusiastic. Cracker of a day. #troutguidetasmania #flyfishingtasmania #stillwaterflyfishing #wetflyfishing #wetfly #catchandrelease #giveflyatry #beginnerflyfishing

04.01.2022 The light in the Central Highlands is very special at this time of the year. #thehighlandfly #troutguidetasmania #flyfishingtasmania #flyfishing #flyfishingguide @ Great Lake

04.01.2022 Covid might be casting a few clouds, but there are also some silver linings for Tasmanian fishers (and potential fishers), including the Fly Fishing Instruction days at Herne Lodge over the next three months Check out my Blog today to see what's going on. https://www.thehighlandfly.com.au/blog

04.01.2022 Great to compare wild brown Tasmanian trout from different locations. Logic says they're both from the same original genetic stock, but location & environment is clearly influential. Western Lakes v's Lake Pedder. #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing #dryflyfishing #learntoflyfish #troutguide #catchandrelease #lakepedder

03.01.2022 Tyenna River - Czech nymphing is a bit of fun, and certainly an active way to fish. But give me rising fish on the dry any day!

03.01.2022 With the 20-21 Trout Season getting underway in Tasmania, it's good to share what's already happening and how the season looks like unfolding Of course at the moment its a season effectively reserved exclusively for Tasmanians which is a situation well worth taking advantage of. The fish have had an extended break and even now aren't facing too much pressure. And with Government vouchers and Highland Fly discounts on offer it might just be the right time to plan a fly fishin...g experience. So check out my Blog at: https://www.thehighlandfly.com.au/blog

03.01.2022 The Tassie trout season is now in full swing. Those dedicated rainbow waters that were still closed have now reopened. This is a handy update from the IFS to remind us of the rainbow fisheries.

02.01.2022 Unfortunate news - the committee had been working hard to make this happen. Frustrating times!

01.01.2022 Little bit harder for these guys to find a feed at the moment, but this one looked very healthy and very relaxed. #tasmanianwildlife #thehighlandfly #troutguidetasmania #centralhighlandstasmania

01.01.2022 Collection of flies tied up for tomorrow's battle. #highlandfly #troutguidetasmania #troutfishing #centralhighlandstasmania #flyfishtasmania #flyfishing #dryflyfishing #learntoflyfish #troutguide #catchandrelease

01.01.2022 Sometimes the light in the Central Highlands can really surprise you!
