24.01.2022 Good evening Jimboomba & Surrounds - can you believe that less than 2 months ago, we were watching out of control bush fires on a road to destruction. I know Kevin and I thought we would never see rain again ......and now ........who would have believed we would be walking on soggy ground and checking out leaky roofs. No shortage of water in the tanks at the moment.... Have a great day - stay safe

23.01.2022 We LOVE washing horse rugs.....Kevin and his magic formula can revive even the saddest horse rug. But a clean rug deserves a classic fold. And a classic fold means you can store your rugs in a bag, a tub, or a cupboard in the tack room. Your equine buddy will always have a rug to be proud of..... .

23.01.2022 Good evening Jimboomba and surrounds - I have found that one of the hazards of being the owner of a laundromat is that I now take way too much notice of the condition of mens clothing - in particular - how well items have been ironed. Can I call this a healthy interest? I am not sure - personally, I think it is all a bit odd. Prior to this week, I was well aware of my love for a well ironed business shirt but I started to consider that I might have a real issue when I... found myself studying the crease in some of my colleagues work trousers - the trousers beautifully pressed - a crisp crease the length of the leg......however....there was also evidence of a previous crease - the trousers had not been pressed along the same line as the previous time - it annoyed me!!!! Oh dear.....what has become of me??? And did I just keep this travesty to myself.....oh no.....in the middle of a meeting - I had to stop the conversation and ask this gentlemen if his trousers were professionally pressed??? And THEN.....I had to point out that I was not impressed with the press. The meeting finished early!!! Time to seek out a laundromat owners counselling service me thinks. Stay safe everyone

22.01.2022 Canberra...right now

20.01.2022 Good morning Jimboomba & Surrounds - counting down to the end of 2019 and it has been interesting to hear so many people say that this has been a difficult year - I definitely will not be sorry to say goodbye to a most challenging year and welcome in 2020 which already has a nice ring to it. Yesterday was really quiet at the laundromat so I am hoping for a busier day today - when it is quiet I eat Tim Tams so I am going to blame anyone in the Jimboomba area who is doing their own laundry, for my weight gain over Xmas. Have a great Sunday - loving this cooler weather - stay safe

20.01.2022 Good morning Jimboomba and surrounds...the very best laundry basket for our drop off/pick up service, is a plastic tub. Folded clothing and linen stacks so much better in a tub - the lid keeps the laundry contained in the car...no fallout on the way home....and once home, just unpack straight back into drawers or the linen cupboard. And if you have chosen our pick-up/delivery service, you can safely leave on the verandah or garage - no need to be at home - no worries abou...t weather and loose laundry. Yes....we LOVE tubs

19.01.2022 Good evening Jimboomba and surrounds - it wasnt meant to take me so long to continue to saga of the laundering through the ages, but better late than never I guess.... The all electric wringer washing machine - I can remember this coming into the family home - to have an electric washing machine was like climbing the ladder to success. We felt very special to be the children of parents with a new you beaut laundry assistant. But it was not all glitz and glamour - My mothe...r was constantly on edge when we were in the vicinity of the beast just in case we got our hair, or one of our limbs, caught in the rollers. I wasnt sure that having this new machine was worth the anxiety it was causing. I do remember that the only way to empty the water from the bowl, was to open the tap on the side of the machine and drain the water into a bucket....several bucket loads in fact. That was my job....take the bucket and empty it over the roses - apparently the soapy water was great for keeping the aphids at bay. Oh those were the days lol - it just seems like yesterday.

18.01.2022 HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL THE MOTHERS IN OUR LIFE and a special shout out to all the mothers out there who are working today and keeping the wheels of the world turning, the supermarket doors open, the hospital patients safe and secure, the flower supply up to date - mums allowing us to carry on with our own Sunday. Have a great day whatever you are doing - your value to the world is greater than any gift Mum because you are the gift - the gift to your family (not that they... always think that lol. But then that is motherhood). Enjoy

18.01.2022 Good morning jimboomba... a very cold misty COVID morning here in Canberra. Seems like a lifetime since I was back there with family. Missing my 4-legged friends (and Kevin of course)... apartment living is somewhat challenging when you are isolated....at least there's a coffee shop downstairs... Had to buy a washing machine - the laundromats here just don't give that Jimboomba wash/dry/fold service. ... Stay safe, stay well, stay in touch

16.01.2022 Good afternoon Jimboomba & surrounds - Do you ever find yourself thinking of something completely ridiculous and wondered how this thought even started!!! It happens to me a lot - just ask Kevin. Personally, I find it quite amusing and it certainly makes for some interesting conversations.... Today, I was thinking of ideas for posts on the Laundromat Page and for some reason, my thought went straight to clothes pegs. That thought led to the number of cloth nappies that are no longer hung out to dry - yes, I know - a slight thought detour.! And this then led me to Baby Showers - yes, I know, another detour.....but wait........the punch line is coming. Baby Showers - I havent been to one recently - do you still play games? Which led me to thinking about the baby showers we had in my era.....yes, we did have baby showers way back then. Best Baby Shower game in the 1970s???? It could only be the Peg game - one of the most valuable skills that any new mother could have when the heavens opened and your clothes lines was heavily laden with the next round of dry nappies. The skill was to unpeg as many items as possible, keeping the pegs in one hand and the dry clothes in the other Clearly, the girl in this video has NEVER had to make that mad dash - it is painful to watch - but you get the idea!!! Was the peg game part of your Baby Shower or was it something else? have a great day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frdE4_tUWCA

16.01.2022 Good evening Jimboomba & Surrounds - I am SUPER excited tonight because i was able to get a litre of milk today!!! woo hoo - i was looking at a menu of black coffee and porridge for the next week but...... And on a lighter note - we need to find humour somewhere in this....At my office, we now have a 2 arms-length Social Distance at my office - and the good news????......It is now acceptable for me to keep any of my less favourite people at arms length!!!! Stay Safe - Stay Positive - Stay in touch

13.01.2022 Looking forward to being back home next week and catching up with our laundromat community. I know Kevin is looking forward to some home-cooked meals and perhaps some down time. I am looking forward to being able to keep up with my own small amount of laundry - A good wash dry service here in Tuggeranong would certainly have my business. Luckily I know a great Laundry Service in Jimboomba to get me back on track! I have heard from a very reliable source that the overnigh...t temperatures in the South East have been challenging!!!. - so challenging, in fact, that the shoes and socks came out this week. I see the layby for Christmas ads have started - does that mean Christimas is just around the corner!!!! Have a great weekend and stay warm

12.01.2022 Finishing on a high....King Kevin still on wash dry fold duties!!!

12.01.2022 Good evening Jimboomba and surrounds - the laundry saga continues today..... After the wringer washing machine, my mother moved to ultra modern with a Twin Tub. The machine had the washing tub on the lift and the spinner on the right. The agitator was a rotating disk on the side of the washing tub. At the time it seemed like such a forward thinking idea because the normal tower agitator took up so much room in the old wringer washer. In reality though, once the ...new washer was full of clothes (especially sheets), the disk did not have the power to rotate the wet laundry. When the washing was considered clean, then you had to drag each item out of the wet water and feed it into the spinner. The capacity of spinner bowl was much smaller than the washing tub so only a few items at a time could be placed in the spinner. I cannot remember a single spin cycle that remained in balance and the machine was constantly being moved back into place after it has walked across the laundry floor. Despite all the issues, it was the twin tub that I HAD to have when I married and we moved into our own home. In hindsight I would have to say what was I thinking!!!! It was one of those decisions you wish you hadnt made but have to stick with it because it cost a lot of money. Needless to say when the baby came along - the washing machine left the building!!!

12.01.2022 Good evening Jimboomba & Surrounds - can you believe that less than 2 months ago, we were watching 'out of control' bush fires on a road to destruction. I know Kevin and I thought we would 'never' see rain again ......and now ........who would have believed we would be walking on soggy ground and checking out leaky roofs. No shortage of water in the tanks at the moment.... Have a great day - stay safe

12.01.2022 I am not sure how the conversation started, but yesterday, someone said to me You must love laundry and yes, I do. I have always loved laundry - that is not to say I havent been guilty of having piles of laundry waiting to be washed, but I love the sorting, the folding (not so much the putting away!!!) and most of all, I love the memories of spending time with my Nana, my mother, and then my boys - doing the laundry together. The more I thought about this overnight, the... more I thought about the many transitions of laundry that I have known in my life. Laundry never felt like the chore it has become today when technology does almost everything except pick the dirty. clothes of the floor. Over the next few days, I will post my memories of the laundry - which ones do you remember?.....this is going to make me feel really old! 1950s - the laundry was in a room at the back of the house - not in the house - but attached by a verandah - there was a big boiler in one corner which was filled with water, heated by natural gas and the clothes were put in the copper to boil in batches and you had to use a heavy stick to agitate them. I was too small to do the stick work in the copper, but I remember it well. The socks and handkerchiefs got extra treatment on the washboard and a cake of soap. When the clothes were considered clean enough, they were pulled out of the copper and dumped, soaking wet, into the concrete tubs. We would then have to twist each item by hand to get most of the water out before hanging on a single line which was propped up with a pole, which didnt always keep all the clean laundry off the ground. Tomorrow - a major labour-saving device is purchased!!

11.01.2022 Coffee in Canberra this morning..... hello Jimboomba

09.01.2022 THE STRESS OF BEING A COMMUTER Good morning Jimboomba - Yes, I am back this weekend and this morning I was reminded as to why it is easier for me to work in Canberra rather than Brisbane. Kevin is at PA Hospital this morning - his appointment was at 8am. Apart from a weekly drive out past Beaudesert, Kevin doesnt travel out of Jimboomba these days, and certainly not to the City. It is always interesting driving him toward the city in peak hour traffic - he is NEVER ...impressed. But as I said to him this morning - this is peoples life here - they do this 5 days per week. And, as I found out when I stopped my commute into Brisbane, until you stop doing it, you have no idea of how up tight, wound up, anxious you are. But you have the weekend to unwind they say......ummmmm....that would be a no. Thats when you grocery shop, clean house, catch up with the laundry. . But Wait.....theres more ........Kevin told me last night that petrol prices are expected to rise 30 cents a litre. That went down really well when I got in the car this morning and the fuel light was on!!! I felt luck might be on my side when the Petrol Stations from here to Calamvale were still around $1.35......AND THEN......$1.65. Did they really get a delivery last night which was 30c a litre dearer??? Variety is obviously the spice of life in the fuel game as well because there was $1.65 on one side of the road $1.49 on the other all the way into PA. By the time I was on my way back, the fuel light was a constant beep and according to the gauge, I had 20km before I was walking. Good news - Acacia Ridge southbound was still $1.35 so I was on a win this morning - should buy lotto. Maybe then I can stay at home and ride my pushbike to get the groceries. Ranting seems to be something I do well these days....... Have a great day - stay safe.

08.01.2022 And just look who I bumped into!!!

07.01.2022 Good evening Jimboomba - following on from my earlier post about my lifetime of laundry, there was major excitement in the household when Mum was able to purchase a wringer. This was a major step up from hand-twisting the laundry to remove the excess water - this was modern technology at its best!!! The wringer, which had a handle on one side for turning, was screwed onto the wall dividing the 2 concrete tubs - the wet washing was fed from one tub through the wringer to t...he separate tub - If I remember rightly, there was some way to change the pressure of the rollers to allow thicker things like sheets/blankets to be fed through without getting stuck. The process was still very manual and a far cry from our next step......electric. But it was fun as long as you kept your fingers and hair out of the way - We were excited - surely there was nothing better than this!!! How wrong could we be....we were heading for modern and we were set to be amazed.

06.01.2022 Good evening Jimboomba & surrounds - like other small businesses in the area, the laundromat has definitely been affected by the local climate. Kevin and I both understand that there would be concerns about bringing your clothes to the laundromat but we also know we provide the best opportunity to give your laundry a super sanitized result, without putting yourself in a close encounter environment. - Meet Social Distancing Guidelines - TICK (leave your laundry at the door... - we wash/dry (and fold if desired) ready for you to pick up later. - Sanitised Machines - TICK - our Machines are always cleaned between customers - it is part of our day to day service not just because...... - Quality Detergent - TICK - we use Biozet which we find gives the best results - or you are welcome to provide your own - Wash Temp - TICK - Hot/Warm/Cold - no price difference - your choice. Hot is great for towels, sheets, pillow cases, doonas and heavily soiled workwear. We us warm for everything else - we only use cold by customer choice - Payment options - TICK - Eftpos available - no need to handle cash Stay Safe - keep us in mind - keep us in business

06.01.2022 EASTER OPENING HOURS Good Friday - CLOSED SELF SERVICE HOURS Saturday 7.30am - 6pm... Sunday 7.30am - 6pm Monday 7.30am - 6pm WASH - DRY - FOLD Service Saturday - Sunday - Drop Off/Pick Up 7.30am - 11am 4.30pm - 6pm

06.01.2022 Good morning Jimboomba & surrounds - how good was that rain? We definitely need more but it was a good start - we may even get to see grass again! I am expecting the roads to be back to normal tomorrow with the extended holiday season coming to a close - hopefully that will mean a busy day for me today in the laundromat - Its been a few days of linen and towels - perhaps there will be the opportunity to pair sox today.... Have a great Sunday

05.01.2022 YES - We are Open for Business Good morning Jimboomba & Surrounds - Yes, we are still open for Business. 05.01.2022 Good evening Jimboomba & surrounds - yes, I know, I have been more than a little slack with my Facebook posting recently. I am all set up with my laptop, 2 monitors, and if I look over the top of one monitor I can watch TV. My 2 mobile phones are lying here on the table and I am feeling technologically savvy!!! And isnt technology amazing - who would believe that I could sit here in Canberra and start the washing machines in our laundromat from my phone. I have to admit... that I have thought about starting the machines remotely but I would really need to find an accomplice to be in the laundromat when it happens to let me know if Kevin found it as funny as I did!!!! I probably know that answer to that! I think I had better just concentrate on keeping everyone up to date with what is happening in the laundromat this week. Have a great day - enjoy the school holidays - and if you are going away drive carefully, and stay safe.

02.01.2022 Good afternoon Jimboomba and surrounds - My day usually starts with a good morning text from Kevin. It is the best part of my day because I know home is still ok and he has survived another day running the laundromat and our Jimboomba life almost single-handedly. For 18 months he has been Wash Dry Folding 7 days a week without a break, building a great clientele of regular customers. There are days when it all gets a bit hard and this week has definitely been one of t...hose. This mornings message was very clear..... When some of your best customers start f*****g you around, then you know its time to get out..... Time to think about a change me thinks!

01.01.2022 IS YOUR HORSE EMBARRASSED? HAVE YOU NOTICED A CHANGE IN ATTITUDE LATELY? IS HE PREFERRING TO REMAIN IN THE SHADOWS? Maybe its time to wash those horse rugs. Maybe your Equine buddy wants to step out in style wearing a freshly laundered coat. Maybe he knows youve put the summer rugs away without cleaning them!. Maybe he just wants a clean rug so that he can roll in it!!!! Its a lot like putting fresh sheets on the bed...you know they will just get dirty again but they... feel great when they are newly washed, dried and folded. At The Highway Laundromat, Kevin and I LOVE washing horse rugs. There is nothing quite so satisfying as seeing a muddy mess turn into a coat to be proud to wear. Kevin has his magic potion for even the dirtiest rugs....I am allowed to use the mix but its like the colonels secret recipe...its a secret!!!! All we ask is that the rugs are brought into the laundromat in a bag or a tub. Tubs are great for storing them in the tack shed ready for the next wear. Drop them off or we can pick up/deliver. ....OR you an do them yourself...your choice. Ring 0418250443.
