21.01.2022 Well, wasn't that an interesting meeting on Wedneday? We had a normal first half of impromptu speaking then came the unusual bit: Michael's project on reaching consensus. The scenario was that our club was offered $1M but only if we could all agree on what to do with it. There were some interesting suggestions including cruising, scholarships and just a straight split. Michael did very well narrowing down the options and guiding us towards consensus. So did we reach cons...ensus? You had to be there to find out..... This is just another type of skill you learn at Toastmasters. So many opportunities in the new Pathways learning system. Can't wait to see what's in store for next year. #thehillstoastmasters #publicspeaking #learningnewskills #spicingitup
14.01.2022 How well did we do with our inaugral debate night? Amazingly well. Despite some last minute nerves about this new style of speaking the night went off like a frog in a sock! The debate topic: Country living is better than city living The teams: ... Affirmative: Di, Roger, Arek Negative: Annie, Asanga, Lynette We had a poll before the debate to find what position our members and guests held and a poll at the end to see how many, if any, had been swayed by our speakers and, guess what? Despite most of us living in the hills the negative won the day with their proposition that city living was better than country living. That's the power of debate and being able to put up a good argument even if you don't believe in the proposition yourself. Well done to all - the speakers, support roles, our guest (who wholeheartedly joined in), and visitors from other clubs(Wandin Toastmasters) . You guys all rock! Roll on next year when we'll try out other exciting formats to give you all a well rounded speaking platform. #thehillstoastmasters #stretchyourself #PublicSpeaking #lovethehills #personaldevelopment

12.01.2022 Welcome to the Brady Bunch...oh no, sorry this was the latest meeting of The Hills Toastmasters. Ralph Smedley, the founder of Toastmasters, is quoted as saying "We learn best in moments of enjoyment". Well, if that's the case, we must learn an awful lot in our club. If you've ever wondered what we do but were too scared to join, feel free to pop in as a guest. As you can see we don't take ourselves too seriously but we do get people where they want to be using all the resources available to us (which are considerable!) #funwhilelearning #thehillstoastmasters #PUBLICSPEAKING #stretchyourself #personaldevelopment

01.01.2022 Well, the Area Contests are done for R36 and we can safely say that The Hills contestants did the club proud. This is an incredibly strong area and the contest was fierce. Lynn Brunet represented us in Humorous and raised her speech another level. Well done Lynn! Lynda Roach represented us in International and Evaluation and, despite her best efforts didn't place. ... Asanga Ragakaruna represented us in Table Topics and took out 1st place!! Go Asanga.... All in all it was a great day seeing the best of the best at Area level. Arek would have been proud of the timekeeping as well, haha. Congrats to all and look forward to seeing Asanga at Division Contest in March 2021. #thehillstoastmasters #reachingnewheights #publicspeaking #personaldevelopment
