My zenith of impatience was when I was in my mid to late 20s - I had a great career - lived in a great city - had money to burn and lived the high life. I had zero patience for just about any delay or perceived lack of service and many a time rushed into a situation where if Id exercised a little patience and waited - the results would have been much better. Patience is in fact more like a skill - first you need to be taught it, then you need to practice it and lastly it needs to become a habit in the correct situations. As you learn to have patience with others in the face of provocation, delay and annoyance so too it is possibly even more valuable to have patience with yourself. Patience can be the difference between calm & stress. Patience can be the difference between finishing & quitting. Patience can be the difference between the right & wrong decision. Patience can be the difference between love and hate. Patience can be the difference between peace & war. Patience can be the difference between life & death. I know Im still far from perfect when it comes to being patient, especially in what I find are the most triggering situations for me, but I am practicing & persevering and mostly winning.
