25.01.2022 "The Old and the New" - owners, that is.....after 20 happy and fulfilling years operating The Hollow Log Country Retreat, meeting lovely folk visiting as guests, seeing their children grow up and families expand over the years, John and I have found a couple who love this place as much as we do. We have sold to David and Merril. They will continue to run the accommodation business - and make their own exciting addition to enhance your country escape...watch this space!! Thank you to everyone.

25.01.2022 What a beautiful day! Mt Byron at its best. #experiencesomerset, #somersetqld, Kerry's Wildlife Rescue & Care Inc.

23.01.2022 Loving this time of year at The Hollow Log - the orchids are loving it, too. #Somersetqld, #experiencesomerset

22.01.2022 We want to thank everyone for such a warm welcome to the Mt Byron / Somerset community - we've met several beautiful neighbours and the Facebook posts have been very touching! I hope everyone is having a lovely Christmas-New Year celebration and break. We're closer to finishing unpacking and have enjoyed some great times with special guests! We have brought our horse-experience business (www.koolkuna.com.au) to The Hollow Log and would love to introduce you to our little herd.

21.01.2022 Another lovely weekend with 'returning guests' - and great to see their 'little ones', now teenagers.

18.01.2022 The gentle, 'wild' Caterina bringing joy to another visitor. Always something special at The Hollow Log. #experiencesomerset, #Somersetqld

16.01.2022 Unique logo, attractive brochure and business cards as well as a well-designed website have served us well. Thanks, Media Operandi

13.01.2022 I just had a brief visit from Lizzy for the first time since we have lived here. For new friends of The Hollow Log, Lizzy is an Eastern Grey Kangaroo who was raised by wildlife carers (Kerrie & Ross) from a 330g pinkie and then released here. She is carrying her 9th joey. Catarina (red-necked wallaby also raised by carers) came out from under the house and joined her for breakfast

13.01.2022 Koala alert ! - definitely a koala! Just what I need to see again. #experiencesomerset, #Somersetqld

12.01.2022 Grandad's birthday at The Hollow Log was a hit with all the family. #experiencesomerset, #Somersetqld

12.01.2022 Beautiful Leah, rescued as a 600g joey on the side of Mt Byron Road (Thanks Amy James & Charlie Lewis), raised by the wonderful Marilyn (IKPS - Ipswich Koala Protection Society) then on to "koala kindy" at Moggill Koala Hospital before her release here yesterday. I'm sure she's happy to be home. #Experiencesomerset, #somersetqld

09.01.2022 The alpacas enjoying some attention from our first guests "post- COVID shutdown". "Ava" with "Ava".

05.01.2022 An educational visit for a young neighbour to see our farrier, Jane, 'working her magic' on Rusty's hooves. Always something interesting to see at The Hollow Log. #experiencesomerset, #Somersetqld

05.01.2022 Writers at work - peaceful space, relaxing walks, comfortable accommodation, time for sharing, visits from wildlife, productive hours of writing, patting the dogs..... The Hollow Log - an ideal place for a writers' retreat?? A resounding "YES" from these three accomplished writers. Crafters? Bushwalkers? Artists?Photographers? Health & fitness? We can accommodate you. #experiencesomerset, #Somersetqld

02.01.2022 Lovely to see these three furry creatures returning to our garden - sitting pretty in the same tree near the retreat just for last weekend's guests. #experiencesomerset, #Somersetqld

01.01.2022 Spring is in the air - a beautiful time at The Hollow Log. Orchids beginning to flower and another visit from Mumma and baby koala in the macadamia tree above the orchids. Blissful day.

01.01.2022 Not one of ours - but we have had a couple of similar success stories over the years - and the wonderful Trudi Timbs (and others), IKPS koala rescuer/carer, has been a great help. A lovely story to show the kids.
