25.01.2022 Why is it so hard to have a conversation with a goat? Because they keep butting in Did you know that goats can be taught their name & come when called, just like a dog? They also have 4 stomachs, one for entree..one for dinner...no really it's true

25.01.2022 Its completely normal for cats to vocalise, and some do it much more than others. Do you share your home with a Chatty Cathy? Most chatty cats really just want your attention. Your cat might be lonely or bored if they spend long periods alone at home with little to do. Try these boredom-busting ideas: Daily play sessions with your cat Interactive games lasting 15-20 minutes Toys like laser pointers/feather toys will get your cat moving... Later, theyll be too happy and tired to yowl at your door

24.01.2022 Once a paralysis tick attaches itself to a pet it will feed upon the host’s blood, injecting small amounts of saliva into the dog or cat in the process. The saliva contains a dangerous nerve toxin that causes the connection between nerves and muscles in the body to malfunction. This causes weakness, which will present itself in several ways including: Wobbly hind legs & difficulty walking Coughing Regurgitation... Difficulty breathing Complete paralysis Even if you remove a tick, your pet is still not out of the woods. The toxin has already started to spread through your pet’s body, and without treatment, the development of paralysis is still possible. We highly recommend using a tick preventative treatment all year round. This is the best way to protect your pet against ticks. There are options like Bravecto & Nexgard that come in the form of a chewable tablet, making them easy to administer. Make sure your pet is protected https://bit.ly/2HlECEO

24.01.2022 Thank you Jude, for this great review "Vet Dr David & Vet Nurse Lauren were marvellous with my precious cats. They phoned ahead to give me some notice of their estimated arrival time. They were very thorough examining my two cats. I can highly recommend this mobile vet service. It is exactly what I needed after having to give up driving. Their fees are very reasonable too."

21.01.2022 Thanks so much Gil for this lovely review...AND...how cute are all those little furballs? "I run a small Dog Grooming business from home and like most people want only the best Veterinarian Practise available when needed. Ive used THCV three times and every time the service they have provided has been professional, caring, informative and far less stress on my senior dog. They can do basically everything and treat your dog on the spot. My old girl Sheba was diagnosed wit...h a UTI . They were able to collect the urine sample, analyse it and provide antibiotics to treat the condition. All in one visit! They even do follow up calls to make sure your pet is okay. While here they did her vaccination as well and it was cheaper then my local veterinarian without Sheba being stressed. Thank you to your talented team of Veterinarians and Nurses as you are doing an amazing job. Great work!"

20.01.2022 Keeping flowers in and around your home is a such a treat, but there might be dangers lurking within their petals. The list of flowers toxic to cats is long and we mean long! Some of these include: Lillies Daffodils Hyacinths... Wisteria Buttercups Azalea There are dozens of dangerous plants to avoid, however, this doesnt mean you shouldn't have flowers displayed inside your home or growing in your garden. Just select non-toxic plants or, if you have potentially toxic plants/flowers, make sure your cat cant get to them! A few ideas to keep them out of harms reach: Put up netting over outdoor flowers that are toxic to cats Keep vases in places your cat cant get to Clear away any dead petals/leaves that have fallen off If you are concerned your cat has ingested toxic flowers or plants, give us a call on 1300 838 868, we can come out to your home for a house call consult and also investigate your garden for the possible culprit

17.01.2022 We all love our pets unconditionally. However, some of us dont appreciate it when our feline friends destroy our beloved furniture Before training your cat not to scratch your furniture, it's important to understand why they do in the first place, Scratching: Allows cats to stretch & strengthen their muscles throughout their body Sheds the exterior nail husk & keeps cat claws healthy Helps them mark their territory as their paws contain scent glands... Feels great & relieves stress in cats Gets their owners attention Safeguard your furniture by: Spraying the surface with a citrus scented spray - cats have an aversion to citrus odours Trim your cats claws to minimise the damage scratching causes to your furniture.

16.01.2022 Knowing when your reptile needs to see the vet can be challenging. Its always a sensible idea to get your reptile checked by the vet soon after receiving it to check for any parasites that may cause illness later on. If your pet exhibits any of these symptoms please get your reptile examined: Not looking alert/active & tongue is not moving Eyes & mouth arent clear Moving around its enclosure with an open mouth... Not breathing normally Struggling to shed - shedding in pieces may indicate an issue Not eating regularly Omitting a strong odour when opening its mouth Skin wounds/lumps If youre concerned about your reptile please give us a on 1300 838 868 to arrange an appointment at one of our clinics or a home visit

16.01.2022 Whether you're an angler with a furry fishing companion or someone who walks their pet near popular fishing spots, it's a good idea to know how to avoid a fishing accident and what to do if your pet gets hooked. It only takes an instant! - your pooch sniffs out and snacks on bait or a fish attached to a hook and the hook ends up stuck in their: Mouth... Throat Stomach Skin If your dog swallows a fish hook, do your best to keep them calm and seek veterinary help immediately. If the fish hook gets embedded in the paw, pierced through their lip, or stuck anywhere else on their body, cover the area so your pet doesn't gnaw, lick or tug at the hook causing further injury. If there's a fishing line hanging from their mouth it's best not to try and remove it, also avoid pulling on it as it may cause further injuries if it has been swallowed. Give us a on 1300 838 868 to book a house call or bring your dog straight into our Kenmore or Sunnybank Clinics

14.01.2022 Hi, Im Sarah one of the vets here, and this is my 4-year-old cat, Larry. Larry is a silver-grey, short-haired domestic cat, and used to be a blood donor at a clinic I worked at. He is great & has more personality than some people I know Larry is such a great companion- he hangs around and has a gentle calming presence so I never feel lonely or alone. He loves waking me at 4am each morning by yowling & pawing at my face, Ill never need to worry about sleeping in! Its a bit lame but Larry teaches me a lot about life and provides me with little reminders- he really doesnt care what anyone else thinks of him and just does what he wants, when he wants and is generally extremely happy with his life

07.01.2022 Hi, I'm Sarah one of the vets here, and this is my 4-year-old cat, Larry. Larry is a silver-grey, short-haired domestic cat, and used to be a blood donor at a clinic I worked at. 06.01.2022 Thank you so much for your kind words Laura We called The House Call Vet after a less-than stellar experience at another vet, and we wanted a second opinion. Our cats get so anxious and upset when we try and take them out of the apartment, so we knew it was important to get a vet that did home visits. I knew of them because I'd seen their vehicle in our neighbourhood before, and we are so, so glad that we called them. The lovely vet (Dr Kate) and the vet nurse (Lauren) were... both so kind and gentle with Scout, and were able to give her a thorough examination. She was prescribed some medication, and Dr Kate and Lauren went on their way. Unfortunately, Scout seemed to get worse, and we had to call for another appointment. Dr Kate came back the next day (with another vet nurse whose name I didn't catch, but you were just as wonderful!) and Scout got another gentle but thorough exam and prescribed more medication for the cat flu. Thankfully, Scout is now very much on the mend and there aren't enough words for how grateful we are to Dr Kate and the team for their kind and gentle treatment of Scout (and their kind and gentle treatment of two very anxious cat mamas!!) Our cats are our family, and we do the very best we can for them, and we are so glad that The House Call Vet exists. There's no one else that we will trust with our fur babies. Thank you, THCV!

06.01.2022 Just like us, birds can experience stress. They're creatures of habit, so any changes to their routine or environment can be a stressor. Changes to their environment like: Moving house New family members or pets Outside noises - construction/trucks/thunder... Paint colour - weird right? There are signs you can look out for to determine how they are doing, for eg: Feather Picking or Self Mutilation Aggression Loss of Appetite Change in Vocalisation Repetitive Behaviour Fear Boredom If you need us to come out and see your fine feathered friend give us a on 1300 838 868

06.01.2022 Its almost snuggle season, and just as you like to pull out the flannel sheets and the thicker doona to keep warm, your dog or cat might need extra layers too. Be sure to provide plenty of shelter for your pet somewhere they can escape the rain and wind thats more prevalent in winter. Think about giving them extra blankets to sleep with.

06.01.2022 Weight control is extremely important when managing and minimising the progression of arthritis in your dogs. If your dog exhibits any of these symptoms: Stiffness or limping - favouring a limb Inability to get up easily after resting or sleeping Reluctance to walk, jump, play and climb ... Winces when touched Irritable or fatigued Lagging behind on walks Often the pain with Arthritis worsens after resting, vigorous exercise or cold weather. 05.01.2022 Its almost impossible to describe the joy a pet can bring. You may be the one caring for your pet but they support and care for us in unspoken ways. Whether its your dog wagging their tail as they greet you at the door, a cat snuggled up in your lap or a bird singing to you, pets give companionship and unconditional love. Here are just a few ways pets can positively impact our wellbeing: Pets dont judge Pets keep you company Pets can encourage you to be more active ...and social Caring for a pet can remind you to care for yourself Pets love routine and routines are great for people too Pets encourage you to wake/eat/play/exercise/sleep The bond between you and your pet does a LOT to support your mental health. If you or a loved one is struggling at all, please contact Lifeline or Beyond Blue

05.01.2022 Thank you for your review Tony, and we were so happy Latte was ok "Our cat Latte was sick from lily poisoning and we brought him to this vet. The doctor, Leo, was really helpful and even used pockets of his own time to help as we panic over Latte. Latte made a full recovery coming back home despite losing a bit of fur to ultrasound scanners. Would recommend this place for any locals."

02.01.2022 A dogs gait is the pattern of repetitive limb motions when a dog walks, trots, runs and gallops. Limping /Staggering/stumbling Limb paralysis Loss of balance Leaning/favouring one side Swaying on feet Short steps/strides Arching of the back Lowering neck & head If your dog is diagnosed with an abnormal gait, there are several conditions that may be the actual underlying cause, ranging from a minor sprain to a severe neurological disorder. 01.01.2022 Cockatiels are more inclined to whistle than talk. Male cockatiels are more likely to talk than females, and some can learn to speak a few words or phrases. Cockatiels tend to chirp rather than screech, and their relatively lower noise volume makes them a good apartment pet. What can your cocktiel sing?
