22.01.2022 Last summer we had a Paint Slip n Slide at the Beaconsfield Child & Family Centre and it was THE BEST. Of course we had to do it again, Rascal style! Book your ...spot now (message me for family discounts) and prepare for the kids to burn off some Christmas excitement energy sliding around in paint and shaving foam and bubbles. It's going to be epic. DEFINITELY don't send them in their good clothes to this one... https://www.rascalrobot.art/book-online Oh and I'll probably do another one in January so don't stress if you can't make it this time around.

20.01.2022 If an item is a mix of different recyclable materials such as cardboard and steel, or cardboard and plastic can the item be recycled? * * * Not unless the d...ifferent materials are first separated by cutting or pulling them apart. * * * If you can’t safely or easily separate the materials and there’s no re-use for the container, pop the whole thing in the garbage bin please. * * * If the separated pieces of metal or plastic are smaller than a credit card size, they go in the garbage too. Why? Because they’re too small to be picked out at the recycling sorting centre and can end up stuck among other types of recycling which causes contamination. * * * Top tip for super Good Sorts: can you find a different brand or packaging type that is not mixed? Or better still, is there a low- or no-package option that can be bought or made or grown at home to avoid the waste altogether? * * * Thanks for being a good sort and rethinking waste in Tassie! See more

16.01.2022 Im stoked to be a Chief Counter for BirdLife Australia and you can be a counter too. The Aussie Backyard Bird Count 2020 is just around the corner. Its the best... way any of us can get involved with some citizen science and help add valuable data nationwide about our amazing birds and their distribution. The whole family can be involved and all it takes is 20 mins sometime between the 19th -25th October. You can join me by registering here ; https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/?Costa You can do your count in your backyard, at the local park, at nan and pops place, wherever you like. If you dont have the app you can always fill out the forms on the website but the main ingredient you need is 20 minutes to sit or stand and observe what birds are around that location. There is a live launch of the event of Monday 19th and Ill let you now about that on the day. Heres links to the Birdlife Australia Website and Aussie Backyard BirdCount Website, also the Facebook Instagram and Twitter pages for all the info you need to know and lots of great facts. Ill be doing a few counts over the week and will go live on one of them and we can talk about our bird counting experiences. Let the family know, the grand kids, nieces, nephews, neighbours and have some fun supporting our birdlife and recording our biodiversity. After the year that has been this data is even more valuable to see just how our birdlife has faired given the bushfires and ongoing drought. 11.01.2022 Tassie recycling tip: no plastic foil packets. They may look like foil, but chip packets and other packs like these are made from soft plastic and can’t be recycled in your kerbside bin. Please take them to Coles or Woolworths for recycling via REDcycle instead

Vinnies in Boland St (behind the Kmart, next to Decorama) is accepting donations of clothes, household goods and furniture NOW! If you’re having a clean out, please consider donating directly to this store (and say hi to my eldest daughter, Sam, while you’re there! She’s the store manager. 07.01.2022 This is an impressive and well put together documentary about how social media can cause real harm. If you are pushed for time, start at 36 minutes in when it ...starts to look at the effects on girls mental health, and how and why it does that - inadvertently by misusing the need we all have for social belonging - but magnifying it to the judgment of thousands, when it was meant to be just those who loved us. Its making me think about my own usage, and the addictive patterns I have fallen into. But its for the kids that I have the greatest fear - the correlations with self harm and suicide, anxiety and depression are very concerning. https://www.netflix.com/au/title/81254224

06.01.2022 We've been utilising this food service lately while I've been out of action after shoulder surgery - it's great! Home style meals, delivery available, and fabulous value. Give them a try! They're good to keep in the freezer for nights when you're too tired to cook. :) #supportlocal

01.01.2022 This year is whizzing around and, before we know it, the silly season will be upon us! I’m putting a challenge out to everyone to make sure at least a portion of their Christmas spend this year will go towards supporting local Tasmanian family owned businesses. Please consider buying products or vouchers from small, independently owned businesses to show them we care and help them remain in business. It’s been a tough year for all of us; the least we can do is lift each othe...r up and make every effort to ensure everyone makes it through to a new year of trading. Please share, and if you’d like to tag your favourite small business in the comments to share the love feel free to rave about your fave local! Jackie

01.01.2022 Empty boxes! Oh no! If you have any clean fresh excellent condition baby wraps you no longer need, we would love to include them in our baby bundles and nappy ...bags. We also love to include roll on deodorant in many of our toiletry packs too, if you can add an extra one to your shopping. Please message us to find out donation drop point details for Sandy Bay, Bellerive, Hobart CBD or Kingston. Thank you for your support, it is very much appreciated
