08.01.2022 The magical & enchanting Gobions Wood Two huge ancient trees guard either side of the path as you enter, towering above everything, watching over the rest o...f the woodland..It looks like something out of a film; like walking into a Lord Of The Rings set or somewhere..the lower leaves create a whispy appearance, almost motioning to the path where you can see the 18th century gothic style folly arch in the distance. This rich reserve is primarily woodland but also includes grassland, hedges and ponds. Much of the woodland is ancient. Although difficult to picture now, Gobions Wood contains remnants of a landscaped 18th century ‘pleasure gardens' which was one of the most famous gardens in England. It was part of the Gobions (or Gubbins) estate, presumably named after Sir Richard Gobion who held the property from 1125-1154. In 1708 the 500 acre estate was brought by Jeremy Sambrooke, who employed renowed garden designer Charles Bridgeman who was the Royal gardener to George II and Queen Caroline to improve the grounds. In the later 18th century a large lake was created beside the mansion. The mansion was demolised around 1840 but the lake, ponds and meadows of the later 18th century parkland adjoining the wood have survived. Although the statues have been lost, a number of features are still evident on the ground. The only 18th century building that still stands is the gothic style folly arch, thought to have been designed by James Gibbs around 1740. 05.01.2022 Today is a very special day. The wheel turns full circle. I pretty much went into DJ retirement when I was pregnant with my daughter....22 years ago...the last track I played that night was Born Slippy... well I am well and truly out of retirement nowadays.... loving it...and the joy continues.... Tonight our BabyBat has her dj debut at The New Order. Opening the festivities. It will be the birth of Melbournes BabyBat carrying on her lineage. So come down and support the next generation. So proud of my beautiful girl
05.01.2022 Commemorate Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) at The Gatehouse Ballarat in the reverent surrounds of the Ballarat New Cemetery. Over four days (Saturday 31 ...October Tuesday 3 November), the Ballarat cafe will serve up Mexican-inspired food, beverages and treats as part of the annual Latin American tradition to honour the dead. Ofrendas (altars) will be situated inside and outside the cafe for people to place photos or keepsakes that remind them of friends and family who have passed away. 05.01.2022 DECADE goes classic 70s and 80s TV THEME TUNES for Saturday Night MONKEY (MAGIC) 1979 to 1980 The video here is MONKEY MAGIC, the theme for the late 70s TV s...how Saiyki ("Account of the Journey to the West"), better known by its English title MONKEY. The clip from the TV show is followed by concert footage of the five-piece Japanese band GODIEGO who performed the song ‘Monkey Magic on the show. The group released the song as a single in Japan in 1978. Based on the Chinese novel, Journey to the West, by Wu Cheng'en, and filmed in Northwest China and Inner Mongolia, the Japanese television adaptation of the ancient Chinese legend featured the off-the-wall antics of four anthropomorphic animals: a shape-shifting, cloud-surfing monkey-God ‘Monkey’, his friends Pigsy (a pig monster consumed with lust and gluttony, who was expelled from Heaven after harassing a Princess), Sandy (the water monster and ex-cannibal, also expelled from Heaven) and a transformed dragon (now a white horse), Yu Lung, as they accompany the the boy priest Tripitaka on a pilgrimage from China to India to find the ancient Buddhist scrolls that will establish peace throughout the world. The immensely fun by badly dubbed version of the programme featured the voices of Fawlty Towers’ ANDREW SACHS (Yu-Lung, horse-dragon) and MIRIAM MARGOLYES (a princes and many other female characters) and was essential watching for kids in Britain (and was even more popular in Australia). Following the big TV hit of the Japanese show THE WATER MARGIN, one of the official "Four Great Classical Novels" of Chinese literature that recounted the heroic exploits of outlaws in rebellion against a corrupt government, a programme that was dubbed and shown on British TV in 1978 (narrated by Burt Kwouk), the BBC was keen on a second Japanese production. This came in the form of Monkey - but whereas The Water Margin was a serious grown-up drama Monkey was frenetic, colouful, and full of spectacular martial arts sequences and slapstick fun. For many viewers though, both series would help nurture an interest in the cultures of China and Japan. CAST The part of MONKEY was played by MASSAKI SAKAI. A former vocalist in a 60's Japanese mod band called 'The Spiders' who would go on to host a whole raft of Japanese TV shows. PIGSY was played by TOSHIYUKI NISHIDA in the first series, who was also known in the world of Japanese entertainment as an actor and comedian. In series three, the part of Pigsy was played by a different actor, Tonpei Hidari. SANDY was played by SHIRO KISHIBE. Like Massaki Sakai, he was also a former member of 'The Spiders'. Kishibe eventually left acting to pursue a career in table tennis. Despite TRIPIKATA being male, the role in the programme was actually played by a woman, the enigmatic MASAKO NATSUME who was a very popular and well-known Japanese actress. Sadly, Masako tragically died of leukemia in 1985 at the age of 27. Thank you to everyone who has joined DECADE. As many of you know the page is just me, Paul. I write and research the articles, and edit the videos, often reinventing them entirely. It now takes almost an entire day of work to put together content for the page. If you could see fit to make a small donation then I would be eternally grateful.
