20.01.2022 Understanding Kilt Accessories, and why they are worn is very important. The KILT PIN is a piece of jewellery that is usually worn on the lower corner of the outer apron of a kilt. Its function is to prevent the apron falling or blowing open, by adding weight to the outer apron and is commonly seen as a form of decoration. It does not pin the outer apron to the inner fabric, which is a common misconception. The birth of the kilt pin is somewhat disputed and has led to many sto...ries. While they cannot be factually verified, they provide entertainment and intrigue for all those looking into the history of this traditional Scottish accessory. The custom of wearing a pin came in during Queen Victoria's reign to stop the kilt apron flapping about too much and showing more of the wearer's anatomy than the Queen liked. For Highlanders, their dress provided them with an opportunity to display as much wealth as they could afford. Therefore, ornamentation, such as kilt pins, were very important. Whilst we don't use kilt pins on our hire kilts, due to damage that can occur, we stock a good variety for people to purchase when they're wearing their own kilt.

20.01.2022 There is some awesome entertainment coming up at the Fringe World Festival Perth, and this show looks amazing.

18.01.2022 Want to add a beautiful and traditional Scottish ceremony into your wedding ? Consider using a Quaich - The word Quaich is derived from the Gaelic word "Cuach" which means "Shallow cup", and is often called "The Cup of Friendship". The Quaich originated in the Scottish Highlands centuries ago and became a symbol of friendship and sharing. Quaich's are often incorporated into Wedding ceremonies and can also be used in Christenings, as well as being a lovely gift. We stock a range of sizes of pewter Quaich's from 3"to 5" as well as wooden ones with Pewter handles.

18.01.2022 Today we are featuring probably the most popular and well known tartan : Blackwatch. Being associated with a British Infantry Regiment of the same name, the Blackwatch Tartan has a long an interesting history. Also known as the Grant Hunting or Government Tartan, Blackwatch was first worn by the six watch companies that once patrolled the highlands, following the Jacobite rebellion of 1715. The Blackwatch, as they would become known, were employed to rid the Scottish highland...s of criminals, rebels and to deter Clan fighting. Today the Blackwatch Tartan is a very popular choice for weddings and all occasions, as its classic look matches all outfit styles and colour schemes. We have Blackwatch kilts to cover sizes 6mths right through to a 60 waist!

08.01.2022 SPORRAN is the Gaelic for purse and has become a traditional part of Highland dress that is functional as well as being decorative. The functionality has survived from the European medieval pouch that was worn on a belt, and was generally in place of pockets. The original sporrans were just circles of leather with holes around the circumference through which was threaded a leather thong which was tightened to draw the neck of the pouch together. The modern sporran is conven...tionally worn on the front of the kilt, suspended by light chains or narrow leather belts that fasten at the back of your kilt - usually fed through the two belt loops of the kilt. Today, sporrans are usually made of leather or fur and fall into 3 categories : Day sporran usually made from leather with no adornments, Semi dress sporran can be plain leather or fur, will usually have some embellishments Dress (or formal) sporran will have a metal cantle at the top this can be silver / pewter depending on the price you pay, it will typically be fur and will have fur tassels as well. There are no hard and fast rules on what type of sporran you should wear - let common-sense prevail. Here are a selection of our new sporrans for sale.
