25.01.2022 Is your partner ready to be your number one supporter during birth?! #Repost @hypnobirthingaustralia with @reposter.app . Empowering our birth partner ... Throughout our hypnobirthing program, there is HUGE emphasis on educating parents on how to work together during birthing. There are so many tips for the birth partner on how to best support the mother such as accupressure techniques to help relieve pain, they'll know what tools to suggest to help the mother feel more comfortable, they'll know the best birthing positions, they'll be the spokesperson for your birth preferences and liaise with medical experts so you concentrate on birthing, and they'll feel every surge you feel. Trying to get your partner on board with hypnobirthing? We have a free sneak peek of the course over on our website so you can get a feel for the program. . . . . 25.01.2022 Implied consent seems to go with assumed understanding. Even though it might only apply to specific circumstances, the consumer should still know why they are d...oing something. for example: in my first pregnancy, I was given a swab and told to swab my vagina. I did not know why, that I could say no, that my care options could change based on the results or what was actually being tested. Another example: "I'm just going to have a listen to baby" and proceeding to use the doppler. Once you are laying down, a cascade of checks happens...this is implied consent. It is implied you consent because you have attended an antenatal check up and this is the routine. Perhaps you would just like to talk. Perhaps you would like to know why the checks are being done. In some cases, this all happens inside a 10 minute appointment, and there is no time for discussion. Many times in pregnancy and birth consent is given (verbal, written and implied) because consent assumes a yes. And as we know, many times consent is not even sought, but assumed (the episiotomy cut in haste, the waters broken in a VE, a stretch and sweep done during a cervical check, touching a breast without asking). For most, consent is also an in-the-moment event, limited information on an urgent time frame, during an event that takes you out of your rational mind...maternity health care consumers have a right to know in advance what the different pathways look like, how one consented to intervention leads to other interventions where consent is implied or choice is lost. The commision offers this to consumers (but no fact sheet on informed consent). https://www.safetyandquality.gov.au//understanding-your-ri The image accompanying the info in this link, suggests that decisions are shared. But share Decision Making is actually about clinicians providing information (Risk, Benefits, Alternatives) and the consumer making the decisions. The decision belongs to the consumer. I will be exploring this further.

22.01.2022 Tag the amazing daddys in your life #Repost @positivebirthjersey with @reposter.app . Wrapped up in love DID YOU KNOW that mens hormones change hugely once they become fathers? For so long (and understandably!), we have focused solely on the huge rollercoaster of emotional and hormonal changes that women go through when they become new mothers. But men experience this too! ... Lets start with testosterone. Testosterone is the masculine hormone that we all know about - its role is mostly to motivate men to find female partners and to reproduce. Studies show that men with higher levels of testosterone tend to be more attractive to potential mates. So, the theory is, when men find their partner and have a baby, their testosterone levels drop as theyre no longer needed to be so high! Multiple studies have found that mens testosterone levels are lowest just before and straight after their baby is born. And then theres oxytocin... the wonder love hormone that we talk about so much! Studies in both animals and humans show that once a father, a mans levels of oxytocin (the happy love hormone), estrogen and prolactin all increase! Whats more, fathers who interact more regularly and lovingly with their children have, unsurprisingly, much higher levels of oxytocin. Pretty bloomin clever, huh?! . . . . 21.01.2022 Yes yes yes!!!!! 1000% and some! Does your partner share responsibility? Sharing doesn’t always mean equal at that moment in time. In fact, I find that often it isn’t 50:50 but instead swings between 60:40 then 30:70 and so on depending on our circumstances at the time. ... Over the years there have been times when I have been there more for our kids whilst my husband had other things on and more recently he has been picking up the slack whilst I do my thing. Fundamentally we are both there for our children but we also take it in turns to be working on our own careers/hobbies/interests that work around our family life. 20.01.2022 Informed consent requires these two things: the care-provider providing information to inform the birthing mother of her options, the evidence, and the pros and cons of each the birthing mother then choosing what is right for her and giving consent. ... Midwives and women have reported on the effectiveness of using ice on this point (with the ice cubes placed in a small plastic bag or wrapped in a cloth and then placed over the point). Hegu L.I.-4 has a function of stimulating efficient contractions. It can be useful during labour if contractions are of irregular intensity. 15.01.2022 #Repost @birthmapping with @reposter.app . For yourself, as you prepare for your own journey.... For yourself, as you prepare to hold the space for another's journey. Choose love. Be genuine. Go deep. You can surrender to the experience, feeling safe and assured because your preparations guide you. This is true for birthing and for dying. Both these life journeys have been dehumanised and medicalised. We have distanced ourselves from our humanity. We seek to avoid pain, which is to avoid experiencing the realness. The rawness. The intensity of our humanity. Numbed and outsourced, it is processed. There is no place for grief or celebration. Why is this the way it is? It doesn't have to be like this. You can choose to own the experience, take responsibility and prepare. We hear the word CONTROL a lot in these spaces. I think this is a ruse. The word we need is RESPONSIBILITY. The focus is on understanding, observing and RESPONDING to the unfolding events having prepared for the possible flows. To be prepared is to be aware. The amount of caffeine that passes through to breast milk is only about 1% of what you have taken in and levels usually peak at about 60 mins after consumption. Choosing the right people that you connect with, that can hold space for you, support you, love you and empower you throughout your birthing journey is so very important. Please dont skim over this part of your birth plan. Your birth team can be detrimental to the way you bring your baby earth side. This birth team that I was apart of was magical, all of our energys came together perfectly to fully support this goddess and her baby - - - #katerandallphotography #birthteam #birthsupport #bluemountainsbirthphotographer #birthphotographer #birth #exposingbirth #homebirth #birthplan #homebirth #birthphotography #waterbirth #homebirthaftercesarean #hvbac See more

05.01.2022 Sharing again as we head into the Christmas period. I have already heard from some clients that their caregivers are beginning to talk induction because their e...stimated due date falls on/near the Christmas/New Years period While there are definitely some circumstances where an induction is medically indicated and beneficial, Christmas is not one of them! Remember that it it your body, your baby and your decision. Inductions are not without risks, and it is important that you weigh up the benefits and risks so that you can make an informed decision. There are many benefits to going into labour spontaneously for both mum and baby, so I find it really sad that care providers are offering early inductions for reasons such as this. If you are due near the festive period and your care provider has already been talking about induction please ask lots of questions, and even seek a second opinion if possible. To my hypnobirthing clients, keep asking questions, using your BRAIN technique and ensuring that you have all the information to be comfortable with your decision. And remember at the end of the day it is 100% your decision. If YOU decide that an induction is the best option for you, then that’s totally fine, but don’t feel pressured by your care provider. Remember, knowledge is power!

03.01.2022 #Repost @the.birth.space with @reposter.app . Skin to skin and bonding with baby. I always say that bonding with baby after birth isnt foo-foo or a fad, its biologically necessary and has so many amazing benefits. . .... Kate from @bright.mums has put together this great explainer. . . We often talk about the benefits of the 'Golden Hour' after birth but did you know that skin to skin has benefits beyond that first hour? . Skin to skin helps . boost oxytocin which helps with bonding, calming and connection . helps settle baby . Longer and more effective breastfeeding more likely to exclusively breastfeed . Less breast engorgement/pain at three days . Less anxiety three days after birth . Higher satisfactionmothers were six times more likely to want the same care in the future when they held their babies skin-to-skin rather than swaddled. . More effective suckling during the initial breastfeeding session . Less crying babies who received skin-to-skin care were12 times less likelyto cry during the observation period . Heart rate, breathing, and oxygen levels were more likely to remain stable . A beneficial increase in blood sugar . Skin to skin is beneficial after both caesarean birth and vaginal birth. It can help 'fill the hormonal gap' of a caesarean birth, particularly a pre-labour one. It's not only for mothers and babies - there are also benefits for partners to have skin to skin with baby including helping with bonding and connection. How can you have skin to skin beyond that first hour? Undress baby (except a nappy) and undo your shirt/ take off your top (make sure to rug up in those colder months) . when breastfeeding . wear your baby in a carrier, wrap, or sling . when just hanging out and cuddling baby . . Want to know more? Skin to skin, why it is effective, how the hormones of labour work and involving partners are just a small handful of what you will @hypnobirthingaustralia Positive Birth classes. . @o_trocatintas

03.01.2022 Yes yes yes!!!!! 1000% and some! Does your partner share responsibility? Sharing doesnt always mean equal at that moment in time. In fact, I find that often it isnt 50:50 but instead swings between 60:40 then 30:70 and so on depending on our circumstances at the time. ... Over the years there have been times when I have been there more for our kids whilst my husband had other things on and more recently he has been picking up the slack whilst I do my thing. Fundamentally we are both there for our children but we also take it in turns to be working on our own careers/hobbies/interests that work around our family life. I am so grateful to @jdsutcliffe for truly sharing the responsibility for bringing up our next generation Tag a man you feel grateful for who helps raise the next generation with you. #nextgen #raisingkids #mumlife #dadlife #equality #family #empoweringwomen
