22.01.2022 Hmmmmm, if we were to gather again, in July, and not on the first Tuesday, how chaotic would that be? How rebel? Well, it would still be Black Tie. It would still be a chance to frock up, after some months.......... and for the ladies too. The chance to Connect? Watch this space.... (And no, it’s not that purple ears are now fashionable.)

15.01.2022 JULY DINNER UPDATE: With Victoria now back in lockdown due to the outbreak of COVID 19 cases and the NSW/VIC border closure, Dilruk Jayasinha unfortunately is no longer able to join us. However, at such short notice, I am happy to announce that Merrick Watts will be our Guest Speaker for the evening instead. Merrick is Sydney based, and so we have confidence that he will attend. As one half of Merrick and Rosso, Merrick Watts took Triple J drive to ratings highs, was the firs...t voice on the NOVA network and built a cult TV fan base with shows on Nine, Ten and the Comedy Channel. As a solo performer, Merrick has carved out a new course: as an actor on The Hollowmen and Underbelly; and as a comedian, touring a solo show for the first time in 2017 with Man of the House and performing on TV shows and the list goes on ... We hope you can make our July 28 Dinner meeting. For any enquires please PM or email salbert@illawarraconnection. com.au

15.01.2022 Dear Members, POSTPONEMENT OF APRIL DINNER Your Board has, like many of you, been carefully watching the Covid-19 pandemic developments both around the world and here in the Illawarra.... Whilst our region was not directly impacted in terms of cases for a significant period, the concerns and social control measures designed to slow the spread of the disease were clearly experienced, and it was hoped that we might be able to proceed with our April gathering with some control measures in place, including the self-isolation of members who showed signs of illness. However, events have caught up with us today with Prime Minister Morrison announcing a ban on public gatherings of more than 100 people. Given the popularity of our dinner meetings we can see no potential way that we could conduct the meeting in light of that edict. We must be mindful of the safety and welfare of our members and in that regard, the current profile of Covid-19 in the Illawarra is no indicator of the future profile that it may have and particularly at around the time that our dinner meeting would have taken place. In the circumstances, our April dinner meeting will be postponed. There may be a better opportunity for us to connect later in the year, or to reconnect after a sustained period of social isolation. It would be far better for us to look forward to that than to dwell on what may have been. We also will seek to keep members informed regarding membership, member successes and events, (if any are to be held in the coming months) via newsletter or, possibly, via short video to be released on the evening of the dinner. We thank you for your continuing support, and until we connect again, stay well. Graham Lancaster

14.01.2022 This speaker, Matt Jones, co-founder of the Four Pillars distillery in Victoria, would have been our guest speaker tonight. Her is a taste of what he may have said. Feel free to watch it all, maybe even with a small gin in hand, or just skip to the good bits. We would have asked him to wear his black tie though. https://youtu.be/oHE1J4CBE5Q

14.01.2022 At our last Dinner Meeting we had an internationally famous TV presenter, chef and filmmaker talk to, teach and tantalise us about and with examples of Indigenous foods, as well as inspiring our menu for the night. A passionate and beautiful local - Mark Olive. https://www.facebook.com/UandMeAustralia/videos/1176040036070335/?vh=e&extid=KBtlg172ve0Lv8aB

12.01.2022 Congratulations to Foundation Sponsor Bluescope for hosting our Prime Minister today, to deliver beneficial news..........

11.01.2022 Our next Dinner Meeting is fast approaching! Tuesday April 7th, 7pm at The Ballroom Novotel Northbeach, Wollongong. Don't forget to jump on our website and RSVP. Our next speaker describes himself as a creative strategist, an accidental entrepreneur and a serial failure.... He was the youngest ever chief political adviser to a major political party in the UK. He was the first global chief strategy officer for the world’s largest brand experience agency. He’s a former Gruen panellist, who speaks and consults on creative strategies for brands and businesses, advising leaders and organisations from Google to start-ups. And he’s the co-founder of the fastest-growing craft spirits brand in Australia, Four Pillars Gin. To share his insights into what businesses and leaders of all types can learn from the world of craft gin, please welcome, Matt Jones. Looking forward to seeing all our members!

10.01.2022 Dear Members, At this time, we would normally be preparing for our April Dinner Meeting, and I can share with members that your board met last Thursday, in Brady Bunch style to discuss how we may stay connected during this time. A virtual dinner for June was mooted and we will see whether and how that may work. We welcome input from members, and would be happy to receive those suggestions via email or IM. If any members wish to dine in black tie at their home on Tuesday, ple...ase feel free to send your photos. If anyone has news for our members that you would like shared, please send it in. We know that there will be a time that we can connect in person again and we look forward to it. Until then, stay safe.

04.01.2022 Social Connection is important. Enough to create it in title case as a response to Social Distancing as a term. On Mothers Day we celebrate a connection with the person or persons who have played that role in our lives, and expressed the fiercest and most nurturing of all love. Connect with your mothers today, (and always), in person if you can, in video or audio if not, and in thoughtful memory for those who are resting in sweet meadows. ... Here is a song that demonstrates such connection. Please enjoy. https://youtu.be/DAPkOxRnh4c

01.01.2022 So,.... time for the President to get into trouble. I'm excited! The 4 square metre per person rule is to be relaxed to 2 square metres per person. This will mean increased numbers for our December dinner meeting. We are asking the question, and you, as members should ask as well. Do you want to see Damien Leith, connect with members again and just dress up to commemorate our annus horribilus? He will smile, sing and regale you with tales in an Irish lilt.... Contact us to get your name on the waiting list as we would love to lift that gate and have you in the room for the night. If you come, I promise not to sing again. Graham See more
