23.01.2022 Location shoot. We are pleased to report the camera (and photographer!) stayed dry.

18.01.2022 Diversity matters. Representation matters. Pictures wield power - they shape how we see the world. We all have responsibility and accountability for what images we're putting out there. Photoshelter & Authority Collective have made a great guide on Inclusive Photography - for anyone who makes photos or works with photos this is a great read, and it's FREE to download from the Photoshelter website - so get on it! https://resources.photoshelter.com/photographers-guide-inc/

14.01.2022 We bought an old school analog label maker! Tactile label joy!

13.01.2022 Hey folks! How's everybody doing? Brence and Sharon from Image Workshop are A-OK, staying the f*ck home and generally keeping themselves entertained. This is a note to say Image Workshop has made a company decision to temporarily cease photoshoots involving people for the time being - we feel it's our social responsibility to do as much as possible to help flatten the curve and keep the community safe. We're still game for shoots not involving people (which can include going outdoors to shoot buildings/infrastructure/doco images). We're also still providing website services through our sister entity Monstrous. Email [email protected] if you need any web content or development help . STAY SAFE EVERYONE XOX!

12.01.2022 Hey ho! More good news from lockdown - Brence & Sharon have recevied 4x Honourable Mentions at the 2020 PX3 Paris Photo Awards You may recognise the Pictorial fine art series and Brence's incredible portrait of Wendy. New to our folio is 'Still Life with Pears', shot at home during lockdown with easily accessible items (pears from woolies delivery, a silver tray we already had, a tree branch from the nearby footpath). See the Pears shot and read about the creation process here: https://px3.fr/winners/hm/2020/1-96765-20

09.01.2022 Hi everyone and especially fellow Melburnians! As we enter Stage 4 lockdown in Melbourne many businesses need to cease operations for 6 weeks, including Professional Photography services, as mandated by the government. So we're pausing location and studio shoots for 6 weeks so we can work from home and play our part in getting COVID infections under control. We're still providing a range of services including image editing, image searches, research and consulting, so reach out if you want an expert hand during the Great Pause to analyse your visual assets, plan new ones, or find great existing content that suits your business. Looking forward to seeing y'all again on the other side of lockdown!

09.01.2022 Drumroll please. IW photographer Brence Coghill has been announced as the 1ST PLACE WINNER of the People Category in The Mono Awards 2020 for his beautiful wet plate collodion (tintype) portrait of Wendy! Brence is excited and honoured to have his work awarded out of such an amazing pool of entries! Congratulations to all other incredible artists who placed. People - 1st Place... The Mono Awards 2020 Wendy 6.5 x 8.5 Wet Plate Collodion on aluminium My path crossed with Wendy, an apparel designer from Atlanta, through a shared interest in alternative process analogue photography. We had both travelled to a remote off-grid farm in upstate New York seeking mentorship from John Coffer, the man who resurrected the Wet Plate Collodion process from the brink of obscurity in the early 1980s by piecing together the process from historic archives and 19th Century photographers’ notebooks. I shot Wendy’s portrait in the dying light at the end of the day on the farm, with only enough time to make a single exposure (in which she had to hold still for 6 seconds). Shot with a wooden sliding box camera (a large format camera without bellows, in which nested boxes slide within each other to achieve focus) using the wet plate collodion process. A 6.5 x 8.5 aluminium plate is hand coated in liquid chemistry, sensitized in silver nitrate, and loaded into the camera while still wet. After exposure the plate must be developed and rinsed immediately, which I did using John Coffer’s makeshift outdoor darkroom, with chickens scratching around nearby. 06.01.2022 Forget sizzle reels, what we need in 2020 is a chill reel. Melbourne Water just released this beautiful chillaxing showreel of photos Image Workshop produced for them this year, showcasing our city's beautiful waterways and reservoirs.
