Your body adapts to stress, the more stress placed upon it, the more it adapts. Then fuel the body with good food! Simples ... Train with the aim of gaining strength in combination with enough calories (caloric surplus)! If you are not progressing in the gym, youre not progressing in your body composition! This can be in form of; - lifting more weight - hitting more reps with the same weight - lifting with improved control, form, range of motion or technique - or lifting the same weight, for the same reps but with a slower tempo No point getting a ‘sick pump’, ‘feeling swole’, lifting weights without a purpose or just saying you’re getting stronger! Here’s a few tips for coaching our younger athletes: - be upfront and honest from the start! Telling a young athlete that they will be Pro and blowing smoke up there ass from the start only leads to heart ache and possibly eating disorders. From the start we were honest with T...aylor that this sport she aspires to thrive in is a long term goal. We must be realistic and accept that it will take many years to become an elite athlete. - accept that younger athletes need to have a life and encourage social interactions with friends. As coaches we would all love our athletes to dedicate themselves 100% to what’s necessary to become a top athlete. But we must protect the longevity of an athletes emotional state and this means support them enjoying their youth. - accept responsibility for being a positive role model in their life. Younger athletes need someone in their life that understands this lifestyle to help them navigate their approach to becoming a great athlete and dealing with the lack of support that many will show them. - understand that with a younger athlete, you are playing an important role in how they develop not just as an athlete but an adult. Be prepared for the hard conversations but be understandable that most of us were not the perfect citizen when we were younger. Coaching younger athletes is extremely rewarding when you truly invest in the athlete. You have the ability to cultivate an incredible athlete, or completely turn them away from the sport. Be smart, and if you can’t commit fully to the development of the athlete. Don’t half ass it! 23.01.2022 The 3 key elements needed for better glutes; Strength, Volume and specificity to exercise selection. Without incorporating all 3 specific needs throughout your training, your glutes will continue to fall short of their potential. So how does a glute program normally look for our athletes?... Often we will start with a primer movement like a hip thrust/kick back/abduction to specifically prime the glutes so they want to fire better throughout the bigger movements. We then program 1-2 big strength movements such as Squats/deadlifts/heavy lunges to track an athletes strength progression. Once the bigger lifts are complete, the focus shifts to more volume based and this is where we utilise higher reps/supersets/drop sets on smaller movements such as lunges/thrusts/split squats/machine weights. And finally we generally finish with a few glute isolated movements such as the glute kickbacks and KB sumo squats to really ensure the glutes have no other option but to adapt to the work load they have just had to get through. If your struggling to grow better glutes, make sure your program includes both strength and volume training complimented with a few specifically targeted glute isolation movements. 21.01.2022 A cheat meal or 2 can’t hurt right? Depends a lot on what you have but they can have a wayyy bigger impact than most think! You can do great all week and be strict with the plan but if you overeat or have a cheat day over the weekend - that can potentially ruin a whole week of clean nutrition!... An example, a nutrition plan of 2000 calories 6 days a week doesn’t work if you have one cheat meal/day where you consume 5500 calories or more. You won’t lose fat. Plain and simple! You may have been good for 6 days but that seventh day has bumped your average calories exponentially for the week! Then we can look at the inflammatory responses the cheats can cause. High amounts of gluten, dairy, sodium and heavily processed foods cause havoc on your digestive system and hormonal balances which leads to increased bloating, water retention and fat storage! Now we understand that occasions happen! Absolutely we are not dogmatic about it! Enjoy it! But you have to be willing to understand potential consequences. The reason so many people never lose the body fat they want is simply because they refuse to give up the luxuries they indulge on daily. ... The same people then throw out blanket excuses like slow thyroid, genetics, metabolic damage, and insulin resistance for why they can’t change! Now don’t get us wrong, these are not always excuses and CAN absolutely play a role. For most, these are some strong contributing factors for their weight gain. However these issues are not the big MAIN reason you’re overweight. You use these excuses to try often hide your poor approach to nutrition and gaining unnecessary body fat. They are NOT the cause of your excess body fat % but rather caused by it Proper nutrition is part of a healthier lifestyle, accept that in order to drop body fat and feel confident within your own skin is going to require you to redevelop new lifestyle habits and not continue looking for the quick fix. 17.01.2022 #Repost from Team Indomitable coach @haydenwillett_ Deploy Aggressive Patience; Too often I see as a coach and an athlete a lot of people out there looking for a quick fix on their health, trying to undo years of poor habits and expecting to see massive results come about in such a short amount of time!... . This has become a norm! So many don’t want to take the necessary time needed and end up f**king themselves up in the process! Important to remember Rome wasn’t built in a day! Don’t get me wrong, there are always outliers to this rule who do see awesome results in quick succession.....but for the vast vast majority it takes time! Sometimes it may even take years . For me personally..... I’m at least 10 years away from where I want to be Aggressive patience is applying your self whole-heartedly for an extended period of time. This means not expecting results over night but instead focusing on being the best version of yourself over the course of days, weeks and months! If you apply yourself 100%, then I can almost guarantee you will receive and achieve the results you deserve! At the end of the day, your ability to achieve anything in life comes from how much you willing to put forth and sacrifice in order to achieve what you want to achieve! Hoping 2021 will be a little kinder to them. But when we truly reflect upon the year, Was the year really so bad?... Or Were we all just exposed for all the lack of resourcefulness, resilience, and mental fortitude we possess from too many years of good times? Why is it that some absolutely thrived despite the challenges faced, while many collapsed in a heap under the pressure? As we step into the new year, we must reflect on the year that’s been and ask ourselves; How could I have been better? How could we have been a better Human? Could we have shown more compassion towards others, more resilience to the challenges, more comradery between our fellow citizens, more resourcefulness in the hardships, more love to those around us and more leadership to those who were paralysed by the fear. 2021 is bound to bring with it more challenges. 09.01.2022 For most guys entering a gym, the CHEST is a main focal point everyone loves to train. However, there are very few individuals that ever really attain that round, full, popping pectoral muscles. At Team Indomitable with our programming we like to incorporate a variety of movements including dumbbells, barbells, cables, machines and even body weight resisted exercises. However there has also been a few things..... tips if you will.... that have helped our members to improve... chest pressing movements and grow their chests; 1. RETRACT YOUR SHOULDER BLADES: by pulling your shoulder blades together in the back, you will have 2 benefits. One, you will force your chest into a more active position, thus using it more effectively rep after rep yielding greater growth. Two, you will prevent your shoulders from injury. When the shoulder blades are not retracted, this puts the shoulder at a more vulnerable risk of injury as shoulder joint isn’t fully stable. When using heavy loads, be sure to retract the shoulder blades. 2. NOT USING FULL RANGE OF MOTION: Half reps will not develop your chest to the degree that you are looking for. All the way back and all the way forward for most optimal chest growth! Half repping anything wont achieve anywhere near the same benefit as full ROM! 3. CONTROLLED, METHODICAL YET POWERFUL REPS: Every rep, controlled negative on the way down, staying tight and then pressing up, squeeze and contract your chest. Getting stronger and lifting heavier is important but not if you’re feeling all your chest movements through your shoulders 4. FREQUENCY- The chest muscles are built up of quite dense tissue and benefit from heavy loading to put enough stimulus to grow. This means smart programming comes into play to recover effectively and not overtrain the chest. Having worked with many Athletes over the years, you can quickly see the genetic potential of an athlete and know where they would best suit.... But what most coaches forget to acknowledge is the physique, aesthetics and federation the athlete desires to work towards. To many coaches are fuelled by their own ego and pressure athletes towards a Comp, federation and physique that the athlete doesn’t actually want. As a coach, my responsibility it to make clear where I feel they have the most potential, and be honest whether their chosen goal is realistic. But then I MUST allow the athlete to choose what they want to work towards. This also applies to recommending a show to prep for... So many coaches Pressuring Athletes to compete because they want numbers in the show, with no consideration to what’s happening in an athletes life outside of competing. I’ve seen athletes pressured towards competing by coaches while their home life is in shambles, leading to many broken individuals at the end of prep, if they even made the show... Sure, as a coach I want great athletes. Gold medals and Pro cards are great for the reputation... But as a coach, I have a responsibility to each athlete to keep their physical, mental and emotional health as a priority. More coaches out their need to understand this!
