25.01.2022 Did some Sunday baking again and made these gooey, chocolatey, coconut brownies. Delivered half to my niece @mirrinstronach to enjoy in her last few days of mandatory quarantine and the rest went for my grandchildren’s school lunchboxes. And as for the missing bit in the slab? 23.01.2022 Baked a batch of white chocolate and macadamia biscuits (or cookies) today and delivered half to my niece who’s in quarantine in a Hobart hotel after flying in from Melbourne last week. The other half went to my daughter’s for kids’ school lunches. 15.01.2022 The simple, vibrant beauty of a winter salad. Fresh, in season, crunch fennel sliced extra thin on the mandolin is combined with also in season blood orange segments, finely sliced broccolini and red capsicum. A simple dressing of the blood orange juice that dropped as I was segmenting them and some red wine vinegar, salt and pepper. This was the perfect accompaniment to a lovely, melt in the mouth lamb rack (or serve it on its own or with lentil burgers). Dinner. 14.01.2022 Something almost 30 years as a Melbourne local taught me about is good coffee. It’s made from freshly roasted, freshly ground beans. You can get it in different sizes and the only waste it generates is compostable. I also expect to be served food coffee at restaurants known for quality and good style. - so when I ordered a coffe at @theloungebyfrogmorecreek today I was taken a bit aback when advised there was only one size. When it was delivered, apart from being minuscule, the branding on the spoon was an ominous size. So I asked the man behind the bar if it was Pod coffee - and it was. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? No amount of justification as to why they use them by the guy at the door will forgive this. 08.01.2022 Today I had the pleasure and privilege of finally meeting the wonderful woman behind @honeychildscreole ... we’ve been connected via social for a while now and it’s been on the cards, but being invited to her home for coffee and home made American biscuits (like scones) was an offer too good to refuse. I loved the visit, the biscuits were wonderful and the home made Miss Jeanette’s date and cardamom spread divine. Better still, I came home with that jar of goodness as a gift.
