18.01.2022 Not now. Not ever. - In fact, it’s part of having a normal, healthy relationship with food for enjoyment to be involved. - You deserve to eat. 18.01.2022 SUPPORT - I was having this discussion recently with the ladies I’m taking through the Group Intuitive Eating process. We spoke about fears around letting go of the rules that have long been held in place around food & wanting to understand how we get from where we are now in this phase of release, permission & hyperconscious, to the place where it really becomes ‘intuitive’ with food & movement, & subsequently - balanced (from a place of true desire, not forced actions). -... I’m a transparent practitioner & although Intuitive Eating is quite LITERALLY the most liberating experience for someone who battles with food, body, movement & the societal pressures around all of such, (scream it from the rooftops Intuitive Eating gives people their lives back!) I’m also honest that it’s hard, uncomfortable work. If you’ve worked with me you’ve definitely heard that spiel. It feels scary to let go, to start to challenge the beliefs, thoughts, behaviours that have been long ingrained & where exactly did that even come from? Is this actually helpful & how is this impacting not only my life but the lives of others around me re food, movement, body? It’s deep work & it’s hard to do without: SUPPORT. - Support is integral to the journey of Intuitive Eating. There are wonderful books you can read about Intuitive Eating (I have many recommendations so PM me if you want some rec’s to get acquainted with the idea of IE), you can listen to podcasts, you can have discussions, but if you’re wanting to step into the journey wholeheartedly & heal your relationship with food, movement, body & break the cycle, then I truly believe integral to that is having the SUPPORT of someone well versed in Intuitive Eating. Doing it on your own is TOUGH, and generally where confusion and misunderstandings about what it all means is likely to come in. Some things we just can’t do alone. - We spoke about all of this together & that at the absolute heart of the process is: TRUST. Trust in yourself. Trust in the process. And the COMFORT in knowing that you have a SUPPORT network within your practitioner, who is with you the whole entire way. Intuitive Eating also takes time. So give yourself time. See more

15.01.2022 On the Intuitive Eating journey, unlike most diets, weight is placed on the ‘back burner’, and is not a focus. It is however, explored, talked about, reflected on, without judgement, purely understanding, to the extent to which is necessary for you to feel safe. - Intuitive Eating certainly isn’t a weight loss program. If you find yourself crossing paths with someone who offers Intuitive Eating for the purpose of weight loss run away, FAST - it’s unethical. - A very common ...question is What will happen to my weight?. We all have a natural weight (often referred to as our ‘set-point’). A natural weight that is very VARIED, and is meant to be so. We all come in different shapes & sizes. Contrary to popular narratives from diet culture, we are MEANT to come in different shapes, weights, sizes - naturally. - - - - - - - Become an Intuitive Eater and find food freedom & body acceptance. 13.01.2022 ‘Finding yourself’ is not really how it works. You aren’t a ten dollar bill in last winter’s coat pocket. You are also not lost. Your true self is right there, buried under cultural conditioning, other peoples opinions, and inaccurate conclusions you drew as a child and adult that became beliefs about who you are. ‘Finding yourself’ is actually returning to yourself. An unlearning, an excavation, a remembering who you were before the world got its hands on you. - Emily McDowell

12.01.2022 There are many reasons why I love to cook. - 1 of them is that diet culture doesn’t exist in cooking. - Salt, fat & sugar are elements deeply appreciated in cooking that can be manipulated to provide different flavours, please different senses & add to the overall experience of eating/cooking.... - My favourite channel on TV is channel 33 i.e. the food network channel. Poor Jake falls asleep each night with me listening to & watching Nigella Lawson whip up amazing dishes & pronounce words with extreme dramatisation. #ifyouknowyouknow - I can’t tell you how many hrs I spent as a kid imagining & (actively) pretending I was on a cooking show as I made my ham, tomato & mayonnaise sandwiches in the kitchen. - My Oma was a Chef & I have fond memories with her of cooking waffles in the kitchen with a tonne of sugar. I don’t ever remember there being talk of toxicity, badness, guilt, worry, needing to do something to counteract it... just love & joy. When did elements of food become something people are so afraid of? Probably around the same time diet culture decided to manipulate it so. - Remember that your body digests food & breaks elements of food down to utilise them. Depending on what that element of food is, it might break it down to use for: energy, fuel for our brain & body (hint: this is what sugar is broken down to be used for), muscle synthesis/growth, tissue repair, hormone creation, immunity, neurotransmitter signalling, mood regulation, brain communication, body temp regulation, for the building blocks of our body incl. bones, nails, skin, hair, blood, muscles, brain.. Food directly aids in all of this! In fact, these functions will be significantly compromised without enough. - You can trust that your body will utilise whatever it is to the best of its ability. Your body literally has your back. Aren’t our bodies amazing? - One of my favourite things that my mother in law has always said is if you can read, you can cook. - I’m grateful to have access to produce, eyes that allow me to read recipes, hands that allow me to create, people to provide food for/enjoy with, & the means to be able to do all of the above. - Guesses on what I was making? 11.01.2022 We all know it: Nutrition & healthy eating is important. But not as important as first & foremost, the relationship you have with food, eating, your body & self. All the nutrition knowledge in the world can be counterproductive without a solid base built first. It’s like building a house on a foundation of twigs. It doesn’t matter what the top is built of, it’s all going to come crumbling down at some point. - The 10th, & final principle of Intuitive Eating is: Honour your H...ealth with Gentle Nutrition. Meaning, when the diet mentality has been removed, when the trust in your body’s innate wisdom has been re-established, when your interoceptive awareness is built, when you have finally re-connected with your inner being & your autonomy is strong against diet culture, THEN, we talk nutrition. - It’s not a race. It’s the journey back to yourself. It’s all YOU. You choose how the race is run & where you’re going to run to, walk to, stumble to or crawl to next. How cool is that? - - - - - - - Become an Intuitive Eater and find food freedom & body acceptance. Individual Intuitive Eating & Group Intuitive Eating programs available. 10.01.2022 How can I stop eating when I know that I’m full? asked the young girl whose parents are concerned about her over-eating, particularly sweets at friends’ houses, to the point of belly ache. (The young girl’s parents are dieters and don’t keep treats in the house, only diet sweets, which the young girl really doesn’t like). Instead of giving an answer, the child was asked, If your tummy is full, does your body need more food? She replied, Well, no. She was then asked ...So, if your body doesn’t need any more food, then what do you really need?. This young girl got it, right there & responded, I need to know that I’ll be able to get the sweets I want at my own house. Excerpt from Intuitive Eating, Tribole & Resch - In a very well-meaning way we can try to control what children (& anyone really) eats, unknowingly instilling morality, and even fear around some foods, passing it all down the line if we haven’t addressed our own relationship to food. This can in turn really disrupt ones relationship to food & carry through to adulthood. And the cycle begins again. Children are the most intuitive of all of us when it comes to eating. - We tend to think the answer to a perceived problem around food / eating is restriction / more restriction. And yet, my experiences in working with so many people (& knowledge of the biological & psychological driving factors for food), & of my own personal experiences of a previously disordered relationship to food, tell me the exact opposite is true - permission & release of judgement is the path to freedom. - This can be particularly tricky to navigate on your own so if in need of some support, reach out to an Intuitive Eating Counsellor (i.e. yours truly!) for guidance - it is a guaranteed judgement free zone, and compassionate & understanding space. - - - - - - See more

06.01.2022 Hands up my sweet tooths? We are who we are This ones for you! - White chocolate, raspberry & pistachio tiramisu (credit Sabrina Ghayour) - Ingredients:... - * 100g white chocolate (broken into pieces) * 400g raspberries * 2 tsp icing sugar * 3 tbsp cold water * 2 eggs (separated) * 350ml double cream * 250g mascarpone cheese * 50g caster sugar * 175g spongefinger (approx. 18) * 75g pistachios (slivered or whole nuts finely blitzed in a food processor - Method: - 1. Place the white chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water, without the base of the bowl touching the water, and leave to melt, then remove the bowl and set aside. 2. Put half the raspberries, the icing sugar and cold water into a food processor or blender and blitz until puréed. 3. Whisk the egg whites in a small bowl with an electric hand whisk until they form stiff peaks. In a separate bowl, whip the cream to soft peaks. 4. Put the egg yolks, mascarpone and caster sugar into a large mixing bowl and beat together. Mix in the melted white chocolate, then add the whipped cream a little at a time, gently folding it in with a spatula to keep the mixture light. Once all the cream has been incorporated add the whisked egg whites a little at a time, again folding them in gently rather than stirring. 5. Select your serving dish - I use 26x18cm rectangular dish. Use as many sponge fingers as necessary to cover the base of the dish in a single layer, breaking some up if you need to fit them into corners or sides. Pour over the raspberry sauce and spread it out with the back of a spoon so that the sponge finger base is entirely covered, then add the whole raspberries in an even layer. Finally, pour over the white chocolate mixture and shake the dish to allow the mixture to fill any gaps, then smooth over the surface with a spatula. Sprinkle an even layer of the pistachios on top and refrigerate for a minimum of 8 hours or overnight before serving. 6. Enjoy! Cause food is here to enjoyed See more

05.01.2022 Principle #7 of Intuitive Eating: Cope with your Emotions with Kindness. A very normal role that food plays is providing us with comfort. When we are born into this totally new, different, stimulating world, we seek comfort from the boob (that milky goodness ) within moments of our entering into this world. The time I’ve been able to spend with my big sister & niece, Iluca, over the past year has allowed me to see from the very moment we are born, how we seek comfort from fo...od. Somewhere along the way, diet culture has demonized this very normal role that food plays & this has resulted in us feeling guilty for partaking in an intuitive role that food has played for us, since birth. - Things can get hard when turning to food is our only way of coping & soothing. Sometimes food can feel like our only friend when it feels like there is no one else there to support us. Please know that you’re doing the best you can with the resources and tools that you have. I work within this principle of IE with clients a lot, and 1 thing I get people to do is build an emotional toolbox. Maybe right now, food is the only thing in your emotional toolbox to help you cope. But what else helps you soothe and cope? For example, in my emotional toolbox, there is: Hugging my dog, taking a walk on the beach, listening to my favourite music, cooking a new recipe, writing my feelings and thoughts out on paper, eating food I like and feel like at the time, talking to someone I feel comfortable with about how I am feeling, watching a funny movie, pulling out my tarot cards, reaching out for support from a Mental Health Professional (such as a counsellor, Psychologist), moving my body in ways that feel right at the time. Notice how food is in there? It’s just not my only way of coping and soothing. When you’re having a challenging time, pull out your emotional toolbox and pick the one which you feel will bring you the comfort and support you are seeking and in need of at that time. You might be interested to find it’s different each time! You might also need some individual support with finding ways to cope other than solely using food, so reach out if that’s the case. - IMPT CONTINUE See more

03.01.2022 I feel my role exists to help you re-connect & tap back into, once again, the well of wisdom that resides inside yourself. - After all, you are the expert of your own body. Sometimes we just need a helping hand to hear it again, & trust its voice. - -... - - - - - - Become an Intuitive Eater and find food freedom & body acceptance.
