25.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: Tommy DeVito Dies Aged 92. Tommy DeVito: Four Seasons founding member dies aged 92. Tommy DeVito, a founding member of US pop group the Four Seasons, has died aged 92 after contracting Covid-19. His death was announced by two other founding members of the group, Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio, who said he "would be missed by all who loved him".... DeVito teamed up with Valli in 1956 and four years later they formed the Four Seasons with Gaudio and Nick Massi. Their hits included Oh What a Night, Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry and Walk Like a Man. DeVito, who supplied baritone vocals and lead guitar for the band, quit in 1970 saying he was tired of touring. The Four Seasons were one of the most successful "doo-wop" bands of the 1960s and their story formed the inspiration for the award-winning musical Jersey Boys. After breaking through in the '60s with pop hits, they had an unsuccessful attempt at psychedelic pop, and then moved on to a more Motown sound - which eventually led to Valli enjoying a solo career. DeVito, who was born Gaetano "Tommy" DeVito in Belleville, New Jersey, died on Monday in Las Vegas Nevada after being admitted to hospital with coronavirus, Variety reported. A friend, Alfredo Nittoli, posted on Facebook on Tuesday: "My dear friend Tommy passed away in Las Vegas at 9:45 last night. With deep regret I am writing this sitting in his living room. I was informed by his daughter Darcel there will be a service in New Jersey." DeVito and Valli began performing together in a group called the Four Lovers which then, with Gaudio and Massi onboard, changed into the Four Seasons in 1960. The group went on to enjoy a string of hits. DeVito was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Four Seasons were inducted into the hall in 1990. Nick Massi died in 2000 at the age of 73. 23.01.2022 Italy, World’s Highest COVID19 Death Tolls. Italy is again seeing one of the world’s highest coronavirus death tolls but it no longer registers as a national tragedy. In a hot-spot town north of Milan, the biggest mortuary has performed a month's worth of funerals in two weeks. At the chapel of a hospital morgue in hard-hit Naples, a priest spends his mornings reciting the names of the dead, thinking about how the still-positive bodies go "right into the bags like soldiers."...Continue reading

20.01.2022 HOW TO SPOT A TOURIST TRAP. ITALIAN CHEF REVEALS THE SUBTLE SIGNS YOURE OUTSIDE A TOURIST TRAP. These days, we all like to think ourselves low key foodies. But the reality is, when youve been thrown across the world in a tin can and been dumped, bleary eyed, in some bustling city, finding the perfect spot to have dinner is harder than scoring a date in a Mesopotamian monastery.... DMARGE spoke to Head Chef / Co-Owner of Sydney Italian Restaurant Vanto, Filippo Perra, to get his take on the features that give away an inauthentic Italian restaurant. Regarding a phoney restaurant if any of the pasta dishes have cream in the sauce run away! Authentic restaurants will honour the small traditions like no cheese on seafood dishes too. Often the phoney restaurants have adopted westernised styled dishes which would not be eaten in #Italy. As for finding a true Italian restaurant outside of Italy, Chef Perra said: If you hear the customers speaking Italian to each other you have found yourself a good Italian Restaurant. Generally, expats crave those authentic flavours and customs from home and will seek out a genuine Italian restaurant or cafe for a good meal and great wine, or even just a quick espresso. I believe it is so important to find somewhere with a feeling of home, wherever you are. Likewise, to find an authentic dinner spot when travelling, Mr. Perra advises you seek out a busy local Trattoria [Italian restaurant] for the best cuisine, fair prices, and an authentic Italian experience. I recommend researching the most famous dishes of the region you are in. The internet can help so much these days and there are always plenty of reviews to help you find the perfect local dish. Vanto Managing Partner / Co-Owner Santino Agrillo adds: I believe the best way to find good restaurants is by asking around ask the locals or friends who have travelled there themselves. Sometimes you must go with your gut feeling! The most authentic food is never going to be in the tourist squares. Also, if you see a queue of locals outside a restaurant go inside (even if it is a shabby place)! Often, good looking restaurants are not reflective of good food. Another foodie insight, which DMARGE learned listening to a Flight of Fancy podcast earlier this year, is that a kitchen hand (or chefs) Instagram story may now be a smarter place to look than your hotels community noticeboard. Former editor of Delicious Sharnee Rawson admitted on the podcast: So many of my friends will want to go somewhere cos they saw it on Dan Hongs Instagram. Another tip Ms. Rawson gave was to, go through the archives of great publishers. They [The New York Times] might say youve got to go to this restaurant, and then you look up that restaurant, then you look up the people that work there and see what theyre eating and then go down the rabbit hole that way. See the DMARGE article via the link below... Enjoy!

19.01.2022 81 Year Old Husband Serenades Wife in Hospital. At 81, this gentleman performs in the hospital courtyard for his hospitalised wife. Not being able to visit her due to the anti-Covid rules, her husband plays the accordion under the window of the hospital in Castel San Giovanni, in the Piacenza area, in order not to miss her.... Due to the ban on entry to family members in the hospital, dictated by the anti-Covid rules, Stefano Bozzini sought an alternative in order not to miss his proximity to his wife: he asked for permission to enter the inner courtyard, so he took a chair and took a seat in front of her window and then began to play a romantic serenade on his accordion. The wife and the medical staff enjoyed the particular performance. The gesture of love and care of the 81-year-old elder, who for the occasion also wanted to wear the alpine hat, bounced on social media and local newspapers, after someone on Sunday had filmed it with a smartphone. Watch this loving performance via the Avvenire link below... Enjoy!

19.01.2022 Florence: 'The same as it was in the 1970s'. A postcard from Florence, the best place in Europe for a city break. Travelling to Florence, Italy these days is not like the post-apocalyptic weirdness of July, when you could go to the Piazza del Duomo at midday and see not a single soul. Instead, its the same as it was in the 1970s except with Wi-Fi and better plumbing. Its basically the perfect mini-break.... September is always a wonderful month to visit the Tuscan city. Its less scorching than August; the sun doesnt beat down directly on those narrow streets quite so ferociously. Even the mosquitos have given up by this point in the year. But it is hot enough to eat out in the evening in shirtsleeves. And right this minute, its also got the optimum level of tourism if youre a tourist that is, rather than a seller of plaster reproductions of Michelangelos David. You still have to book to get into the Uffizi Gallery to see Botticellis Birth of Venus and the Caravaggio Bacchus, but I went online in the evening and got a slot next morning at 9.30am. There was a queue to get in but it was polite, socially distanced, and titchy 10 minutes' wait at the most. And while I wasnt alone looking at Primavera, I didnt have to fight my way through a crowd to catch a glimpse of it either. It was me and a smattering of early-bird tourists. When I came out after about an hour you can be quick when you dont have to shuffle round after huge school groups there were even living statues getting their Pagliaccio facepaint on, and some well-rested ponies drawing tourists in little carriages around the Piazza della Signoria. I have found the photographs of Piazza Santa Croce, empty save for the odd attention-starved pigeon, deeply depressing. Beautiful, certainly, but eerie and lonely. No town that depends so heavily on tourism as Florence does can be a happy place to be when its abandoned in high season. But the city doesnt feel desolate these days. In fact, it appears remarkably chipper. The Mercato Centrale Firenze has its new season porcini mushrooms in stock. The little jewellers and mosaic makers on the Ponte Vecchio are all open and raring for business. The Antica Farmacia Santa Maria Novella known as the oldest shop in the world looks like its set fair for another 400 years. So what if you have to wear a mask while visiting? You can take it off to smell the pot pourri. Best of all, when you sit down at the end of the day for a well-earned Aperol Spritz, the waiters bring it fast and with a smile. Youre not just another demanding tourist these days youre a precious and valued guest. Hopefully, this state of affairs wont last too long: Florence needs more than the sprinkling of foreign visitors it has now. But theres currently no quarantine; the weekend weather forecast is 32 degrees and sunny What are you waiting for? See The Telegraph's article via the link below... Enjoy!

18.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: BUDDY VALASTRO INVOLVED IN TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. 'CAKE BOSS' STAR BUDDY VALASTRO IMPALES HAND IN GNARLY ACCIDENT. WHILE BOWLING AT HOME!!! Cake Boss - Buddy Valastro is recovering following a horrific bowling accident where his right hand was impaled ... and required multiple surgeries.... The famous baker suffered the gruesome injury Sunday while spending some QT with his family in the bowling alley in their home. A rep tells us there was a malfunction with the bowling pinsetter -- a problem the family's had in the past and usually a common fix, but not this time around. We're told Buddy Valastro tried to release a bowling pin from the cage mechanism, but his right hand got lodged and compressed inside the unit. His rep described what happened next this way -- "Unable to remove his hand, [Buddy] can see a 1 1/2" metal rod slowly and repeatedly impale his hand three times between his ring finger and middle finger." After more than 5 minutes, Buddy still couldn't get his hand free from the metal rod jammed through it. His rep says his sons, Buddy Jr. and Marco, "rushed to the garage for a reciprocating saw to cut through the metal rod" and finally got Buddy's hand free. Buddy was rushed to a hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to remove the rod and stabilize the wound. A second surgery followed ... performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michelle Carlson in Manhattan. The rep says Buddy (Cake Boss) will have an uphill battle given it's his dominant right hand. He faces a long road to recovery and therapy. Buddy's not exactly ready to call this a pinhead move... but he's definitely kept his sense of humor through this painful ordeal. He posted a pic Wednesday from his hospital bed with the caption, "I was involved in a terrible accident a few days ago... What do you think of my new accessory?" Sending positive vibes, boss!!! 11.01.2022 PHOTO GOING VIRAL: A Daughter's Love For Her Mamma. Woman stands on car roof for hours to see mother in Italian hospital. A woman stood on the roof of her car for most of the day to try to make contact with her mother, hospitalised with covid-19 in Como, northern Italy....
