02.01.2022 FARMER WHO LOST 4 MILLION AVOCADOS IN HAIL STORM THANKFUL BUSHFIRES DIDNT DO MORE DAMAGE An avocado farmer from north west of Tabulam says it is a mir...acle that only 1,000 avocados trees were destroyed from the Bangala bushfire over the weekend. A team of 10 worked to defend the Pretty Gully property and protected another 7,000 trees, as well as homes and valuable irrigation infrastructure. In March a hail storm that hit the farm damaged 4 million avocados. But owner Colin Foyster says the ongoing drought is the toughest of all the natural disasters hes faced. He says he is incredibly proud of his team, especially his four workers from Papua New Guinea. I recruited them directly when I hiked the Kokoda trail got them in through the Pacific Islander program, and they stood here shoulder to shoulder with us and found this fire, it's just amazing, the hours they put in, it was super human , just amazing, all day all night, all day, at a hectic pace, and I have never been so proud of someone, the whole crew.
