25.01.2022 ENHANCING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY THROUGH EMPOWERING OUR HUMANS Our skill development programs are taught by horses. They prepare people to take on the challenges that life throws at them and to move forward through adversity to opportunity. Our programs foster inclusion and the development of meaningful and healthy relationships, as well as supporting them to develop the skills needed to overcome the barriers of engagement.... EVIDENCE-BASED LEARNING THAT IS MEMORABLE AND Fun! What our particpants learn is important, however, what they remember is priceless. Our interactive Leading Change curriculum program is not based around your typical classroom setting within 4 walls! Our 8-12 week curriculum program promotes inclusion, emotional regulation, appropriate assertiveness, personal-leadership and self-empowerment through learning invaluable and memorable life skills that set the foundation for personal growth. We utilise the well-researched and result driven Curriculum which is designed for youth & adults to experience a continual building of skills over the consecutive weeks. Each program focusses on a different objective, but all the objectives are worked on within each program, maximising retention and results. The teachings from the horses are so unique and powerful that at the completion of the program, our Youth are armed with an empowered mindset; a heightened level of awareness; and solid new skills to assist them in navigating their way through what ever challenges life throws at them well into adult hood. We can tailor the program to fit the school terms (8-10 weeks) or for organisations or agencies, we offer the full 12 week curriculum. Working with horses creates a unique memory that causes the attendee to remember the training far longer than if sitting in just-another classroom or a psychologists office. Combining the experiential learning (hands on) style with our Building Block curriculum, our unique programs are specifically designed to ensure the learning and long-term retention of necessary life skills and self-leadership to aid in each person's personal growth. The process includes empowering each individual through group exercises with a focus on individual qualities while having some extreme fun and maximising the individuals learning potential. 19.01.2022 Kaltequine treats kids who have experienced school disengagement and anxiety, and parents drug abuse, violence, sexual abuse and neglect. Facilitator Susan Kiliszewska, who is the managing director at Kaltequine, says childhood trauma can affect the way the brain organises, including sensory integration (responses to touch, sound and other senses); relationship building; and the ability to regulate emotions. Before some people are ready for "cognitive interventions" such as ...counselling, they need to learn how to handle more primitive feelings like fear, anger and frustration. "Horses are pretty stubborn animals, and if they dont want to work with you, theyre not going to, Susan said. So for you to be able to win their trust and get them to follow instructions, it means theres a great sense of achievement and mastery for kids." An example is Lili. Lilis mother, Anya, is astounded at the change in Lili. Lili had experienced trauma and was withdrawing from school and friends. Over 16 weeks, while facilitators taught Lili how to approach and groom Danny and lead him through an obstacle course, she learnt more about relating to humans. Such as the importance of reading non-verbal cues. "You can relate the horses emotions to people," Anya says. "Like, knowing when to leave them alone and when they need help." "She had a hard year in grade 2 with personal issues. As such her schooling suffered. She didnt want to go to school. It was all too much for her. Working with horses gave Lili confidence in herself ... "[She] doesnt like attention and doesnt like crowds but shell now go to class and put her hand up and talk to the teacher with 20 kids around her." 18.01.2022 The importance of Nature to our Wellbeing A 30-days campaign was run by the Wildlife Trusts of the University of Derby, with the prime focus on uncovering the crucial role nature plays in our overall eudaemonia. The study revealed that subjective feelings of happiness and wellbeing were positively correlated with natural activities such as gardening, animal feeding, bird watching, and bushwalking. Dr. Miles Richardson, the face of this research, cited valuable evidence on how... proximity to the nature improved mood, enhanced respiratory functioning, regulated hormonal malfunctions, and impacted on the thought structure of individuals as a whole. Just by being outdoors and using all our senses to appreciate nature, we can be more mindful of the present, gain emotional resilience, and combat stress with more vitality. We become naturally immune to anxiety, emotional ups and downs, and thought blocks, thereby feel more lively and energetic than before. The survey further pointed that people who lived close to natural wilderness like the beach, mountains, or parklands, had better mental health and reported of falling sick lesser than those living in congested urban settings Human Nature- the FOUR connections! 1.Physical Wellbeing Improves cardiac functions, reduces hypertension, balances hormonal regulation, improves respiratory functioning & enhances eyesight. 2. Social Wellbeing Effective interpersonal communication, stronger bonds, deeper emotional attachment, empathy, less conflict & aggression at home. 3. Spiritual Wellbeing Deeper sense of self, more gratitude, self- enhancement, increased insight towards the positive & negative aspects of life. 4. Psychological Wellbeing Emotional regulation, increased attention, positive thinking, improved stress management, resilience & mood upliftment. Nature provides, improves, cleanses, builds, & heals our health- its a proven fact!!. So next time your in need of an uplift or scenery change to get these changes happening, just look to the natural world around you. 15.01.2022 Green Care Humans & Horses The following post provides insight into the role of farm animals in farm-based programs and their importance to different typ...es of participants. Farm animals provide real work, close relationships, challenging tasks and opportunities for reflection. They also contribute to a welcoming atmosphere for various types of participants. We have explored the role of farm animals in providing care to different types of participants at care farms (e.g., youngsters with behavioural problems, people with severe mental problems and people with dementia as well as veterans). Care farms provide alternative and promising settings where people can interact with animals compared to a therapeutic healthcare setting. We performed a literature review and carried out secondary data-analysis of qualitative studies involving care farmers and different types of participants. We found that farm animals are important to many participants and have a large number of potential benefits. They can... (i) provide meaningful day occupation; (ii) generate valued relationships; (iii) help people master tasks; (iv) provide opportunities for reciprocity; (v) can distract people from them problems; (vi) provide relaxation; (vii) facilitate customized care; (viii) facilitate relationships with other people; (ix) stimulate healthy behavior; (x) contribute to a welcoming environment; (xi) make it possible to experience basic elements of life; and (xii) provide opportunities for reflection and feedback. This shows the multi-facetted importance of interacting with animals on care farms. The types of activities with animals and their value to different types of participants vary. Farm animals are an important element of the care farm environment that can address the care needs of different types of participants. At #kaltequine we have horses. We are an equestrian based Care Farm, and as such are able to provide educational and therapeutic care services for individuals from a range of vulnerable groups. We are able to work with children or adults who can visit with their carers. In some cases we are also able to accept unaccompanied children. People can be referred by their care coordinator or in some cases people self-refer. Some sessions can be funded by local authorities or they can be claimed through Medicare or private health rebates.. Kaltequines care farming clients are encouraged to help feed and look after the animals. We don't focus on the things you can't do, but rather on the things you can do Your achievements, physical work you have done, bonds you have made with your new community will make you feel better about yourself. Some clients have noticed improvements in appetite, mood and sleeping patterns as a result of regular visits to the farm. Horses can be great healers. They can be a source of comfort in times of personal unhappiness. Just watching their interactions, sitting with them, touching them or actively becoming involved with their care can be used as therapy for various issues, such as anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorders and selective mutism. For some people, being outside, closer to nature, and interacting with our gentle horses can greatly improve issues with self-confidence, relationships and problem solving. We encourage clients to break down difficulties with tasks or activities to manageable levels and guide them through the learning process as they work things out, leading to a great sense of achievement upon the completion of a task, however small. Being with horses, whether it be grooming and looking after them, or riding them can be of huge benefit to increase confidence and self-esteem for all sorts of people, including those with physical or mental disabilities. When do sessions take place? We are able to offer sessions during school term times on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays, between 10am and 4 pm. All sessions must be booked in advance. It is possible to join us for a one-off session or to come regularly, for half hour or one hour sessions, or stay for a morning, afternoon, or whole day session from 10am to 4pm. We are able to work with groups or individuals. What activities are available Clients are able to partake in feeding, grooming, cleaning, handling and checking the animals including pony, chickens and rabbits, while enjoying our beautiful countryside surroundings. We provide a quiet gentle pony along with brushes and grooming equipment, as well as guidance and encouragement, so that children and adults can benefit from the enjoyment of being close to a large animal, while it patiently lets itself be handled, stroked and brushed. We are also able to provide exceptionally patient horses and pony for ridden sessions, or in hand sessions, where the client works with the horse in order to negotiate obstacles within an enclosed arena. There are some indoor areas in case of very inclement weather, but it is recommended that all clients and carers are dressed appropriately for outdoor conditions for the time of year, and wear sturdy boots. Safety hats are available to borrow when required. How do I get started Please get in touch with us if you think that we could be of benefit to you or your child, and we can put together an individual program to suit your needs and budget. If you would like to visit the yard and the horses prior to booking, so that you are able to become acquainted with the layout of the yard, and the staff, then please call us on 0413710306 to arrange an appointment, and we will be happy to show you round, and discuss your individual requirements. 15.01.2022 Being Real 6 Amazing Things You Learn When You Embrace Being Alone 1. You learn to seek your own approval.... When you learn to enjoy being alone, suddenly the approval of everyone else doesn't matter much to you. The only person you need to please is yourself. So seek your own approval, not the approval of others. 2. You learn to feel your feelings. In solitude, you can't cover up the emotions you have. You have to learn to fully feel your feelings. When you do, you'll be more emotionally intelligent than before and handle yourself in a way you never knew was possible. 3. You learn to enjoy being with people more. When you aren't always clogging your life up with social interactions, some you don't even want to have, and learn to enjoy being alone, you also learn to enjoy being with people all the more. 4. You learn what activities you truly enjoy. When you separate yourself from others more than you usually are, you learn to do things you enjoy doing, not necessarily your group. Suddenly you realize that you've got a whole host of talents and interests you didn't know you had. 5. You learn to be productive. Without external social cues and requirements, you learn how to be truly productive on your own. This makes time for time to learn new skills and understand yourself more. 6. You learn to relax. Once you're no longer wound up about the expectations of others, you learn to truly relax. It's nice, isn't it? Do you want to stress less, sleep better, and feel abundantly happier... without drugs or anything crazy? If you enjoyed this, now it is your turn to spread the love! 15.01.2022 M Y O W N A D H D Im extremely curious. The world absolutely fascinates me and I cant stop trying to learn more about it. I think that is the hyper focus.. ... . . . "People tell me have amazing insights and ideas but what do I have to show for them" . . . Im still in the process of improving my brain. I want it to be strong and flexible, capable of creating great things. Its taking practice, but Im learning the art the working in bursts: going hyper focus on things for a short while and taking a break. Reddit, Hacker News, Stumble, Quorathese are all great but Ive started to seriously cut down my info intake. Theres always one more article, theres always one more comment thread. Theres always something I can tear into and dwell on for hoursbut what is it all that intense contemplation really worth What about actually making something great What about getting shit done and creating something People tell me I have amazing insights and ideas but what do I have to show for them If I can learn to channel my energy and curiosity into real productivity, I will be a force. . . When did the penny drop How does one channel this energy in a world of chaos Let me know your thoughts . . . #adhd #kids #aussiethings

14.01.2022 Ask permission. Before cutting the branch of a tree or removing a flower, tell the spirit of the tree or plant what you are going to do, so that they can withdraw their energy from that place and not feel the cut so strong. When you go to nature and want to take a stone that was in the river, ask the river keeper if he allows you to take one of his sacred stones.... If you have to climb a mountain or make a pilgrimage through the jungle, ask permission from the spirits and guardians of the place. It is very important that you communicate even if you do not feel, do not listen or do not see. Enter with respect to each place, since Nature listens to you, sees you and feels you. Every movement you make in the microcosm generates a great impact on the macrocosm. When you approach an animal, give thanks for the medicine it has for you. Honor life in its many forms and be aware that each being is fulfilling its purpose, nothing was created to fill spaces, everything and everyone is here remembering our mission, remembering who we are and awakening from the sacred dream to return home. 13.01.2022 When you run away from your problems, it works. Initially. There is a certain rush that comes from running it’s the liberating realization that not all proble...ms necessitate solutions. That not all queries require clarification. That not all of the puzzles we face up to with intensity and passion need be solved, settled and packed neatly away on a shelf labeled Fixed this or Figured out that. We do not possess the patience or perspective that is needed to arrive at our solutions, so we instead take the easy way out. We run away. And it all seems as simple as that. You become afraid to love anything fully, live anywhere completely, invest yourself entirely in any new person or venture, for the underlying fear that eventually you are going to leave. When you run away from your problems, you feel empowered. You are taking your life back by ignoring all the parts of it that do not particularly please you. Mess something up at your job? Not a problem. Fail at a meaningful relationship? No worries. Your problems don’t exist here in this new physical place that you’ve arrived at. Out of sight, out of mind, and for a while you can get off on the absence. You have new things to focus on. You’re thriving. Except when you run away from all of your problems, you eventually start tripping. First over little things the cute guy who asks you out but never texts you back. The interview you go to that you inexplicably tank. The things you’re running from don’t explicitly appear in front of you but linger just beneath your mind’s surface cooing taunts at your newest undertakings. The problem with running away is that we’re trying to apply a definitive solution to an indefinite, ongoing problem. We’re attempting to tie up the loose threads of our lives before we’ve detangled any of them. We’re putting a bowtie on a monstrosity. We all want resolutions as simple as purchasing a plane ticket, updating our Current City on Facebook and moving on with our lives, but we forget that our emotional ties run deeper than that. We forget that we can never fly far enough away from ourselves to escape what it is that lies unresolved within us. Because the thing is, our issues aren’t imbedded in the places we leave behind or the people we no longer see every day. Our unresolved emotional clutter seeps into every facet of our lives, stealthily enough to remain eternally undetected. It’s the hesitation deep in your gut that balks when new opportunity arises. It’s the sense of self-doubt that creeps in when you’re challenged. It’s the same old pain of trying to write a new chapter without finishing the old one you do not have a frame of reference to carry on forward. You’re trying to grab at something new with full hands and yet you cannot figure out why you keep dropping it. J.K. Rowling once stated that Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it, And I find this to be largely untrue. Pain can be avoided almost entirely but the bleakness that accompanies avoiding it cannot. When you constantly run from the past, it wears away the present with a vengeance. You become afraid to love anything fully, live anywhere completely, invest yourself entirely in any new person or venture, for the underlying fear that eventually you are going to leave. That you aren’t going to stick around when the going gets tough. That you’ll be gone and with you will fade all of the sweet, unfinished memories, all of the plans, all of the careful devotions that you promised with uncertain lips. When you’re the person who runs away from everything, you don’t get to be fully present anywhere. You know you won’t be staying so you check out. You check out from everything that makes you the most alive. When you run away from all of your problems, you eventually run from yourself. You forget the person you could be if you stayed in one place, worked through your downfalls, accepted your shortcomings and then overcame them. You forget that there’s a version of you who is reliable and passionate and strong. You lose the sense of pride you used to have from persevering. Because when you run away from all of your problems, you run right into infinitely more. You create a world within yourself that must be tiptoed through and gets over-turned with ease. You are a land mine of unfinished wounds that bleed again at the slightest scratch. You find yourself having to constantly run further, harder, faster, to avoid what you are carrying within yourself. The further you run from your problems, the further you run from yourself. And the harder it becomes to eventually find your way back home. Www.kaltcollective.com

05.01.2022 The Psychology of Becoming One with your Motorcycle When you ask motorcyclists why they ride, youll get a variety of answers. Some love to ride for the speed, others the camaraderie, and others say they love the freedom of the open road.... We hear about the dangers of riding a motorcycle all too often but rarely are the physical and, more importantly, the mental benefits spoken about. Some of the benefits are obvious, others not so much.... Motorcycle riding is a combination of exhilaration, fear, relaxation, and pleasure that changes you forever...
