22.01.2022 Anyone else feel like they are single-handedly keeping restaurants in business with their takeaway spending? On behalf of my fellow restaurant owners, I say thank you! If you can, try to order directly from restaurants rather than going through third-party apps that pinch a huge chunk of profits - you might just be helping them keep their head above water. 14.01.2022 Are you a chronic multi-tasker? As business owners, we can often be addicted to being "busy" all the time. This is necessary sometimes, but long-term it can leave you with a strung-out nervous system and depleted of creative energy. I help my clients rediscover their work-life balance by taking bookkeeping off their to-do list. You will be amazed at the space this creates in your life!

14.01.2022 Do you know how much tax you should set aside this month? It's easy to let your taxes slide when you're a freelancer or small business owner, especially when money's tight! A good rule of thumb is to save 25% - 30% of your monthly net income for taxes, but this will vary depending on your income bracket.... There is nothing worse than getting a big bill at tax time, which is why I help business owners avoid nasty surprises and stay on top of this at all times! See more

13.01.2022 Can you blame me for being passionate about the Melbourne food scene? There’s a very good reason why I specialise in bookkeeping for Melbourne restaurants, bars and cafes! @bentwoodfitzroy

11.01.2022 Perhaps the one good thing to come out of this COVID madness is that many of us are now working regularly from home and are eligible for more tax deductions! You qualify for a home office deduction if you use a portion of your home exclusively and regularly for business, or if it is your principal place of business. Here are some things you might be able to claim:... Furniture and appliances (desks, chairs, lamps, printers, and even decor). Office supplies (paper, ink, staples, or stamps) Phone bills and internet Office repairs and maintenance Home utilities, including electricity, gas, and heat Cleaning services and trash removal for your home Rent (and renters/homeowners insurance) Sadly, you cannot claim things like coffee, milk or other items your employer might have provided at work! Make sure you keep a record of those bills, so you can claim back every cent you can See more

10.01.2022 It's time to go digital and ditch that paper trail! Did you know that all receipts, tax invoices, wage records and source documents for your business need to be kept for 5 years? That's a lot of clutter to keep in your garage! My tip? Set up a Google Drive or Dropbox folder to store your documents in the cloud. That way they will be safe - even if your garage catches fire, your laptop is stolen, or your computer crashes!... You can invite your bookkeeper to this folder too See more

10.01.2022 Don't mind if I do! Happy Friday Eve friends @thesmithprahran

02.01.2022 Think bookkeeping is just reading receipts and writing cheques? Stop right there! A good bookkeeper knows how to code transactions accurately for easy tax reporting, generate meaningful reports for your accountant, and create cash flow reports so you know exactly how much money you have coming in. If you feel like this is a low-paying, low-skill task, you're probably not working with a quality bookkeeper.
