18.01.2022 To celebrate NAIDOC Week, the Year 8 students at The Lakes are learning about Indigenous Seasonal Calendars as part of their Science Unit The Dynamic Earth and Our Place in Space. Students are investigating and comparing the seasonal calendars of the Kulin Nation and the local Wurundjeri People. This project involves students developing an understanding of the importance of the environment and country to First Nations People, and an awareness of how climate patterns have been both observed, and predicted, by them over the past 40,000- 60,000 years. The students will share their knowledge by creating their own versions of these seasonal calendars. We will post photos of these when they are completed.

01.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC week, which is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing culture on the planet. This year’s theme is Always Was, Always Will Be, which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this ...country a history which dates back thousands of generations. The Lakes is proud to be acknowledging and celebrating the many contributions of our Indigenous community across NAIDOC week. If you would like to know more about NAIDOC week, along with the events taking place all over Australia, you can visit the website at : https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/2020-theme
