11.01.2022 W I N E R E V I E W Jericho Fumé Blanc, Adelaide Hill, SA 2019 Not your typical Sauvignon blanc . Barrel fermented and kept on lees for 7 months, this gem displays floral aromas, clean and fresh tropical and citrus fruit. ... The term Fumé Blanc is referring to the US style of oaked Sauvignon Blanc. Story has it that Sauvignon Blanc arrived in the States in the late 1800’s and the variety was first taken from Chateau d’Yquem in Sauternes. Fumé Blanc was coined by Robert Mondavi in the 1960’s as a way around the boring image that Sauvignon Blanc had back in the days. Definitely a hidden gem and one of my personal favourites out of the wine list, this medium bodied wine is showing a bright pale straw colour. As per the style, it has been aged in French oak barrels and kept on lees for 7 months. This is showing on the nose and palate as this elegant wine displays subtle toasty oak flavours, ripe tropical fruits, citrus fruits, gooseberry and some minerality. Can be enjoyed on its own, with mild spicy food, white meat and any fish.
