25.01.2022 150 at funerals!!! We are all back in the game of sending off our people in the way they damn well deserve. Let us gather, and let us weep, wail, whoop and remember xxx #welcomebackmelbourne #melbournefuneral #melbournefuneraldirector #alternativefuneral #RIP
24.01.2022 We love collabs and this one was really special! @telopeaflowers offered us a load of flowers theyd bought for a promo shoot. We spent the day driving around to some of the families weve looked after this year, delivering a little dose of floral heartwarmers. Massive thanks to Vic and the Telopea crew, and to all the soft hearts we saw today; and big love to ALL our families who are navigating grief
23.01.2022 Our merch helps to grow our business in a few ways: mostly it allows us to invest in the workshops and events we hold, and which we make available to everyone, no matter their circumstances. It also offers one of the best ways to build brand awareness without a high visibility locale, billboards and other corporate trappings. So if you have the means, please consider buying one of these rad tees, on pre-order until September 7. Purchase at https://www.lasthurrahfuner...als.com.au/merchandise If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up Ferris Bueller #funeraldirector #melbournefuneral #funeral #deathworker #localbusiness #awesometees #cutemerch #melbournefuneralcelebrant #mortician #grassrootsorganisation #grassroots See more
22.01.2022 Personal Ritual and Ceremony in a time of Corona virus The spaced out chairs, empty rooms, the sadness that cannot be held by loving arms. Grief in a time of pandemic is an extra weight, a deep rift in the way we as humans are meant to mourn. How can losing someone at a time like this not complicate the feelings of loss? Trying to choose which ten to attend, its an impossible but necessary task. For many, it is still important to have a funeral, to gather in some way, to hav...Continue reading
19.01.2022 100 Person Funerals: Let’s Do what we Came here to Do!! From 11:59pm Nov 22, funerals go up to 100 people (with the 4m square rule). What does that mean? ... It means that we can get back to our original vision, of creating incredible send-offs that encompass the sadness and heartbreak and the rousing celebration and memory-sharing. That might look like a beach ceremony and group paddle to scatter cremains, an evening dinner and concert with your late legend lying in state. It might be our classic Fitzroy funeral with food truck and beers on arrival. It might be somewhere in a forest. We go where you want us to. We make it happen. To celebrate people being allowed to properly mourn and farewell their people, we’re offering $1000 off a funeral for a family who want to take up one of our Fitzroy Massif funeral packages with live band and beers, and who are keen to hold their funeral or memorial at The Tote Old Bar or Bar Open - all places we are partnering with. If you know someone who might need a funeral soon, be brave and tell them about us and this offer. 19.01.2022 Better Days are Coming. It really feels like weve been in lockdown for the longest time. So many things are on hold. See this beautiful vista? This is the place well be having our tree-planting memorial festival. It is a day of live music, beers and BBQing, where families join us and we plant a silky oak for every person we have cared for this year. ... It was meant to be September 12, but we have to postpone it. All the things on hold for those better days to come. Let this rainbow remind you, to hold fast. 19.01.2022 Are you missing those times when we gathered without the merest thought? Even if it was for the sad act of saying goodbye, we did it holding each other close. It really feels tough to be here in lockdown 2.0, even though we really really need it, so we just thought wed name that in case you were feeling it too. Some days its hard to imagine how it used to be,... Or how it might be in the future. And thats just the way it feels. Hold fast, hold fast and reach out in whatever way you can to the people you love. Or go to the cave, and do whatever it is that gets you through. If you feel like it, tell us what youre doing to make it through. This gorgeous capture by @phoebepowellphoto and you know what, these days will come again some day, when well farewell our kith and kin arm in arm and shoulder to shoulder. 18.01.2022 It was a day of heartache and everyone was missing hugs and seeing each others faces, hidden as they were by masks. 17.01.2022 Philanthropy and Funerals for All We are in the midst of planning another send-off that is partially covered by our philanthropic fund, so we wanted to say Thank You! ... Thankyou to everyone who has donated to attend our expo or our online webinar events; who has bought merch, or who has had a full-price funeral with us. Each of you have directly contributed to this fund, that allows us to assist families who cannot afford the send-off they long to give their person. These funds allow us to offer assistance where it is most needed; sometimes it’s a certain coffin, or covering a portion of the service the family cannot afford, Such as the celebrant. Sometimes it is covering an entire funeral if there are desperate circumstances. However we couldn’t do it without the generosity of legends like you. So from our hearts to yours, massive props to you all xxx #philanthropy #socialenterprise #grassroots #compassionatecommunities #melbournefuneral #melbournecelebrant #helpinghands #kindnesspandemic #kindness #funeraldirector See more

14.01.2022 Personal Ritual (no religion required, but also, liberally sprinkle your own belief system on this goodness) We all know what we cant do during these COVID era times, and it makes it even harder to lose someone now, when the world is so small and even a hug is hardly allowed. But something about grief is that it comes knocking, and to start healing...well we gotta do some mourning.... Whether you want to hold an online wake and get loose, crying and laughing with your beloved ones in your own little zoomaroo session, paddle out to sea and have a howl before releasing their cremains, go big with a skywriter and mass vintage hearse driveby, or sit alone in a dark place with 100 candles burning through that long, wrenching night when you feel their goneness... We just want to let you know that opening that door on grief is the way through. All the love to those wounded hearts in their time of mourning. 13.01.2022 This week we have a family who have to face not only losing someone suddenly and way too soon, but also having to manage intensifying pandemic awfulness. We thought of a great way to manage wakes within these times of mask and plague. With sharing food largely off the table, and the need for distance in the togetherness of gathering for a wake, what better way to feed the mourners than individual pizzas! Teaming up with @farina00pizza and using the great, airy and eas...y to socially distance space at @75reidst , we have found a pizza party feeds the grieving, avoids any issues around food sharing, and allows people to sit at their own table while still being close enough to have a conversation. Were not saying it still isnt a little awkward, talking across tables and hastily remasking after some pizza scoffing, but what is important is that people can still have a farewell, can still have a ritual space for mourning, weeping, and for being held in a larger way by people in the room, on the livestream, and in this culture, in which we are all contending with grief of some kind. All our love to those who have to journey through losing someone they love at a time like this. #lasthurrah #lasthurrahfunerals #naturaldeathcare #melbournefunerals #funeralsinatimeofpandemic #wakes #pizzaparty #hearse See more
13.01.2022 We Local Theres a lot of ways to get lost in the mass-production elements of the funeral industry - with so many specialist items and objects, and certain rules and regulations to meet, its not always possible to make every aspect as bespoke as wed like. But where we can, we WILL! Look at these beautiful urns, handcrafted in Hurstbridge by a local artisan. ... Handcrafted, reclaimed hardwood timber, built in a studio thats powered entirely from solar. These urns are made to order, and can be personalised - the second image is from an urn that did away with the plastic casing all cremated remains are given to families in. Instead these cremains rest in the box with a special interior lid. This person was buried in their family plot, to return to earth again in the fullness of time. Even better, these urns cost about the same as a mass produced item, which are usually not sustainable, and often made with cheap materials. We hope to expand our range of handcrafted items to include coffins, shrouds, bearers, and other special pieces. With thanks to our artist Gerard Banner See more
12.01.2022 I awoke this morning with a great weight of grief for my father. It came in the night when, in a dream, I almost heard his voice, but it was interrupted. In this melancholy, I came by chance upon this poem. And it helped. Maybe it will be of help to you, too.... How many days and nights did I wander the woods calling your name? Jiva, my daughter! Jiva, my heart! Late one night, finally exhausted, I fell to the ground. Oh, my heart, I heard a voice say, 84,000 daughters, all named Jiva, have died and been buried here in this boundless cemetery you call a world. For which of these Jivas are you mourning? Lying there on the ground, I shared my grief with those 84,000 mothers. And they shared their grief with me. Somehow, I found myself healed not of grief, but of the immeasurable loneliness that attends grief. My sisters, those of you who have known the deepest loss, as you cry out in the wilderness, just make sure you stop, every so often, to listen for a voice calling back. 12.01.2022 We here at The Last Hurrah are battening down the hatches and doing our best to provide the most fitting and personal send offs for our people and those that love them. With this in mind we are now offering what we are referring to as Drive Byes. This offering allows families to specify addresses of their nearest and dearest and we bring your person to each location in our beloved Mumma Cass. This lets more folks at these spots say their goodbyes, have a last beer, leave a note on the coffin, or add anything they see fit to send off with their person, while still practising social distancing. We can also crank the persons favourite tunes at the same time. Take care out there and look after each other xx

05.01.2022 Dying Queer Online Panel: September 19th We are staunch supporters and allies of the #LGBTIQ community, and to that end were holding an online panel called Dying Queer. This online event will bring together queer experts from the deathspace, legal arena, and queer support and health areas, and advocates and activists who have been fighting the good fight for decades. ... The aim is to address the issues faced by the queer and gender diverse community (which is diverse, so necessarily the issues will also be broad), and how we as a culture and industry and address and improve things for queer people. The panel is still being finalised, but we have Tara Mackay (master embalmer and proud queer woman), and Sally Goldner (transgender advocate and elder), with more panellists to be announced shortly. 01.01.2022 How often do you return to the farewell you had for one you lost, to the last moments you had, to the things that youve held onto? Though their voice may fade, you always keep something that is as bright as their lifeforce was. All these remembrances are a form of ritual, of mourning, of processing. They keep the person alive in the only place they can still live - within you. I am remembering Andy today. He always knew all the chord changes to every song, and would co...nstantly wear innapropriate hawaiian shirts to fancy weddings; lucky he played so beautifully! Oliver Sacks said: There will be no one like us when we are gone, but then there is no one like anyone else, ever. When people die, they cannot be replaced. They leave holes that cannot be filled, for it is the fate the genetic and neural fate of every human being to be a unique individual, to find his own path, to live his own life, to die his own death.
