25.01.2022 Solidarity Forever - Labour Day 2020 #LabourDay2020 #LD2020
25.01.2022 Last night we lost a giant of the Union movement, Simmo, following a long and hard-fought battle with Melanoma. First and foremost, Peter Simpson was an ETU and a Union man. Right from the start of his career to the end, Simmo held an ETU ticket. He moved from the rank and file, right through to Secretary of the ETU Qld & NT where he fought tirelessly for workers rights and to stop the privatisation of our public assets.... His advocacy work and campaigning didnt stop with his melanoma diagnosis in 2016, since then hes campaigned for better cancer funding, improving access to emerging treatments, and the right for Queenslanders to die with dignity. Simmo was one of the true warriors of working-class politics in Queensland. The lives of all Queenslanders are better for Simmos contribution. Simmo, you will be missed. Vale.

24.01.2022 Thank you, Coralee O'Rourke MP for your service to your community, the State and the labour movement. Coralee has been a fierce advocate for her local community and for regional Queenslanders. In her role as the Minister for Communities and Minister for Disability Services and Seniors, she worked tirelessly to ensure some of our most vulnerable Queenslanders receive the support and services they need. We hope you enjoy a well earned break, and well be following where your advocacy and passion travels next. From everyone in the Left, thank you.

22.01.2022 Welcome to Mackay Anthony Albanese! Thanks for standing up for casual workers who are getting a dud deal from big corporations
22.01.2022 Well said Coralee! A world class stadium built by North Queenslanders, for North Queenslanders.
21.01.2022 Theres $13.5 million going to support more manufacturing jobs in Cairns, Rockhampton and Townsville All because Left delegates fought for and won this commitment to one of our most important industries AMWU Qld & NT
19.01.2022 Good. Every Queenslander has the right to come home safe at the end of the day. Bosses that put profits before workers should feel the full consequences of the law. Our Left unions have been tireless in fighting for these laws. It is great to see them delivered.
19.01.2022 Morrison Government on June 5: JobKeeper guaranteed until September. Morrison Government yesterday: Early childhood educators will be kicked off JobKeeper next month. Singling out early childhood educators is a chaotic and cruel move from this Federal Government.
19.01.2022 ICYMI: this week the Qld Labor Government introduced a bill to make wage theft a criminal offence in Queensland. Wage theft is taking around $1.2 billion out of workers wages each year and more than $1 billion from workers superannuation. It's unacceptable and has to stop. We've been campaigning to criminalise wage theft in Queensland for a long time. It's great to see this progress.
19.01.2022 ***NATIONAL POLICY FORUM Introducing Laura Fraser Hardy: I am a member of the Wynnum Manly Branch, and a current member of the National Policy Forum. At present I work in government, and have previously worked as a lawyer. Through my previous experiences as a federal candidate, and my ongoing interest in policy issues, particularly womens issues, I know that grassroots development of policy is fundamental to setting government agenda and winning elections.... Our National Platform provides the framework by which the ALP will govern in the future and we need to get it right. As a current member of the NPF, I have participated in a number of policy consultation meetings with branch members. This was a great way to listen to the issues important to branch members. I look forward to continuing to engage with branch members about policy issues, to give as many branch members the opportunity to provide feedback on the platform. Voting opens Saturday 22 February. For more info, visit www.theleft.org.au/NPF

18.01.2022 Congratulations to the Left's Laura Fraser Hardy and Nick Thompson who were both elected as branch representatives to Labor's National Policy Forum. Keep an eye on our page for national policy updates from Laura and Nick as we work towards National Conference later this year where we'll set the platform and the agenda to elect an Albanese Labor Government!

17.01.2022 COOL NEWS Labor is delivering air conditioning to every state school in Queensland
17.01.2022 Bit of a change from the LNP here: stuffing up the lives of hardworking Australians on purpose, instead of by accident.
16.01.2022 Five years ago today Queenslanders went to the ballot box and kicked out the Newman LNP Government who gutted health and education funding, sacked 14,000 workers and tried to flog off our assets. Since then, our Labor Government has Delivered more than 200,000 new jobs Built new schools and upgraded our hospitals ... Kept our state assets in public hands where they belong Implemented important progressive reforms to abortion laws, LGBTIQ rights and starting the conversation about treaty with First Nations people Overseen the biggest investment in renewables in the country including Australias first, publicly owned renewable generator A big shout out to our Left MPs who fight the good fight every single day!
16.01.2022 More for Maryborough More jobs for Queenslanders

Queensland Hospitals are working hard to prepare to save lives and weve worked hard to prepare the hospitals. 13.01.2022 Queenslanders should be proud of these three... We sure are!
13.01.2022 It's finally happening! The Qld Government has committed to changing the consent laws following recommendations from the Queensland Law Reform Commission. We should be supporting survivors of sexual violence in the justice system, and the first step is to ensure the legal framework does not deter them from speaking out. ... Women seeking justice in cases of rape and sexual assault suffer due to archaic laws that do not reflect a modern and equal society. They hark back to an era where women were voiceless and powerless. An era that no longer exists, and should not be allowed to thrive in our justice system. Thank you to all the survivors who have bravely fought for these changes and to the Left Members who campaigned alongside them. We believe you. We stand with you.
13.01.2022 Earlier this week, Queensland Labor announced more of our team heading into the State Election. Congratulations to these community champions, who will always fight for good local jobs, more education opportunities, and a health system that keeps all Queenslanders safe and well. 11.01.2022 ***NATIONAL POLICY FORUM Introducing Nick Thompson: Im a social worker & member of the Redbank Branch at Ipswich. I work with blue-collar industries to improve mental health outcomes for workers and Ive seen firsthand the impact that job insecurity, casualisation and precarious employment can have on individuals and families. Im committed to making sure that we continue to work with the Labour movement to create a policy framework that serves the interests of working peopl...e. As the Chairperson of the largest domestic & family violence service in Queensland, I know how important broader systems reform is for the family court, mental health services, disability support and our social security safety net. Ill fight hard to retain and improve our policys that impact those most vulnerable in our community. As an existing member of the NPF, I undertook formal consultations with Branch members at Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Cairns & the Gold Coast from 2016-2018. Queenslands regional communities are the backbone of our states economy and play an important role in our electability federally. Having lived and worked in regional Queensland prior to Ipswich Ill fight hard to make sure that the views and voices of all branch members across our vast state are included in our platform. Voting opens Saturday 22 February. For more info, visit www.theleft.org.au/NPF
10.01.2022 Higher bills. Higher emissions. Political gridlock on climate action. 10 years ago today, the Greens teamed up with the Coalition to vote down Labor's carbon pollution reduction scheme. It was the wrong call then and 10 years later, we're paying the price.
10.01.2022 This week Mick de Brenni for Springwood introduced nation leading reforms into Parliament to see Queensland tradies get paid in full, on time, every time and crack down on dodgy developers trying to cut and run. This is great news for Queensland tradies!
10.01.2022 The Queensland Labor Government is delivering for working Queenslanders. Chances are we all know someone who's been the victim of wage theft, with 1 in 4 Queensland workers affected. Now, it's a crime!
07.01.2022 Vale Sheridan Power Today family, friends and comrades are farewelling friend, activist and campaigner for workers and social justice, Sheridan Power. If you would like to send a condolence message you can do so here
06.01.2022 Supporting schools, supporting hospitals, backing jobs.
06.01.2022 Great news for renters from Mick de Brenni for Springwood!
05.01.2022 "For our children's children." Today, Cynthia Lui MP - Member for Cook introduced the historic Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa (Torres Strait Islander Traditional Child Rearing Practice) Bill into the Queensland Parliament. Shared child rearing is a common and enduring Torres Strait Islander cultural practice. Generations of Torres Strait Islander children have been raised in supportive and loving extended family environments.... This legislation means children and adults who have grown up with traditional adoptive parents will finally have their legal identity match their cultural identity, supporting and strengthening their connection to community and culture. Check out Cynthia's speech
05.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Bill Marklew OAM longtime Unionist, fierce fighter for fairness and now recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia. Bill, your service to working Australians has not gone unnoticed. We look forward to continue campaigning alongside you!
05.01.2022 The new Trades and Labour Council office in Cairns is officially open! Our Unions do fantastic work supporting workers and communities. With the office open, Cairns will have a new campaigning hub for protecting and creating good, secure, and skilled jobs for Far North Qlders.... Great to have Nita Green - Senator for Queensland doing the honours too. ETU Queensland & NT Maritime Union of Australia - QLD Branch CPSU Queensland
05.01.2022 Gay conversion therapy harms Queenslanders, so we're getting rid of it
03.01.2022 More tradies and more apprentices with stable, properly paid jobs. The Queensland Labor Government is well and truly getting on with the job of rebuilding QBuild after the LNP sacked 1,654 of its workers. Now more than ever, Queensland kids like Casey need employers who will give them the skills they need to set them up with a job for life.... These 20 apprentices would not be here without the Left members and unionists who backed this in at State Conference last year
02.01.2022 Voting for branch member delegates to the National Policy Forum begins this Saturday. In Queensland, we have been fighting for and winning real progressive changes in our Party and importantly, in our policies now is time to replicate this nationally! We will support branch members and ensure you are represented, included and have clear avenues to contribute to the national policies that matter.... Visit www.theleft.org.au/NPF to find out more about our team.
