25.01.2022 Introducing... Young Writers Collective and Young Writers Online and our fresh new look! Over the last few months, we have poured our hearts and souls into adapting and modernising the Talented Young Writers’ Programme. By defining these two programs it allows us to focus and deliver the necessary information to the appropriate schools and students at home, and ease communication with administrators. The two programs will run concurrently, and these changes will allow us to b...etter present ourselves on a local and national scale. The Young Writers Collective will be delivered face-to-face in Fremantle and at host school locations in regional Western Australia. Whereas, Young Writers Online can now be delivered to students in WA and Australia wide who are unable to attend in person. While this is a significant change, our core values for the program will remain unchanged. We are feeling inspired and very excited by this new direction. Please let us know what you think of the new look!

06.01.2022 We’ve joined forces with Perth Festival and Joondalup Library to present talks and conversations with a fantastic mix of genres and first-time authors in Joondalup. The evenings are held in the amazing venue of Joondalup Library. The first night was with Yuot A. Alaak featuring his debut book 'Father of the Lost Boys'. Our own Director and Founder, Lesley Reece, had the pleasure of conversing with Yuot about his memoir of walking across a desert and crossing the Nile Ri...ver as a child. It is a remarkable testament to his grit and fortitude but it is also an ode to his father, the teacher who led Yuot and 20,000 of the ‘Lost Boys’ on a journey in search of education. * * * * * * * * * The second night was with Sophie McNeill live from Canberra, featuring her moving first book, 'We Can't Say We Didn't Know'. On Tuesday, Lesley chatted with Sophie via zoom about her experience in the Middle East and on the front line. Sophie shared many stories of the inspiring 'ordinary' people she had encountered and the conflict which has changed their lives forever. * * * * * * * * * On the third evening, Alexander Thorpe took the stage with his book 'Death Leaves the Station'. Lesley and Alexander discuss his debut novel and how he adapts the ‘cozy crime’ genre, typically encompassing gradually revealed clues, red herrings, and an eccentric amateur detective. * * * * * * * * * On our last evening at Joondalup Library, Holden Sheppard discussed his book 'Invisible Boys'. Our own Educator Officer, Natalya, and Holden discuss his multi-award-winning novel which speaks to, and for, an experience of homophobia in country towns Tag your friends and family that you shared this captivating evening with!
