23.01.2022 #42daysoflockdownlife Ok so we are going for a bit of a smaller scale today, but have you seen a pool house better than this? Based on a combination of the Modernist Ben Rose House (from Ferris Buellers Day off!!) and Phillip Johnson's Glass House, the pavillion style pool house is definitly a nod to modernist architecture. 22.01.2022 #42daysoflockdownlife So we are a pretty big fann of Shou Sugi Ban (charred timber cladding), we have used it on quite a few projects and it never fails to look good. But one up on that is Shou Sugi Ban on a cabin in the woods and this is an almost perfect example - also check out that 3.6m high pivot entry door!! ... 22.01.2022 #42daysoflockdownlife Soooo do you think this 42 days will be extended.....its not looking too positive with all of the rumours, hopefully we get some positive news tomorrow!! We've been quite enjoying our daily inspo posts so they might continue in some form - but we'd also love to get some of our own recent projects photographed to share with you!! ... In the meantime we are dreaming of Portugul today. Funnily enough the shape of this house was based the way any child in the world would draw a house - 5 lines (walls and roof), a rectangle (door) and two squares (windows). Lucky those kids go to architecture school for a bit of refinement right? For the next 6 weeks we will be sharing some of our favourite architecture projects from around the world. 22.01.2022 #42daysoflockdownlife 'Lookout at Broad Cove Marsh' is clearly the prefect name for this holiday home in Nova Scotia. A low lying design of concrete wood and glass (perfect combination?!) with all rooms off a single corridor, the long clerestory allows the gentle north east light to peer in. Designer Omar Candhi... 18.01.2022 #42daysoflockdownlife Spring! 13 days to go! Anyone else's motivation level at zero this week? The first day of spring makes me feel like the year is ending - perhaps a good thing, but honestly where did it go? I mean Christmas decorations will be in store soon - didn't we just have Easter? Anyway I digress.... this slightly warmer weather has me dreaming of tropical holidays adn this house in Vietnam is number one on the must visit list. Perforated bricks have ...been used to allow air and sunlight into this multi-generational home in the city of Bien Hoa. All of the bricks were salvaged from nearby building sites, inlcuding burnt and blackened bricks which form the dark patches of colour you can see. Purposely haphasardly stacks to create an irregular bumpy finish. Ok so an open brick wall might be a little 'ventilated' for our Melbourne climate - but we can dream right? design by CTA, photography by Hiroyuki Oki For the next 6 weeks we will be sharing some of our favourite architecture projects from around the world. 18.01.2022 #42daysoflockdownlife Have you ever noticed that architectural photography is sometimes a lot about the surrounds, the view and not so much the architecture? I mean all houses with beachfront, or mountain views, tend to look amazing in photos, but when you look a bit deeper, what do you actually see except a big glass window framing a view. Does that mean spectactular architecture in the suburbs is even better because it doesn't rely on the surrounds but on its own mer...it? Or is architecture just about framing a view? Naaahhhh we think there is potential for awesome in all projects - the views just make the site visits more fun! This glass pavillion home is located in San Jose California and clearly the views are amazing - but this building is definately just as striking in its own right. We love the pops of exposed structure, the ply ceilings - and the kitchen - no overheads with the bluestone behind the range? Genius! 13.01.2022 #42daysoflockdownlife A trip to a little island off the coast of Maine today with this stunner. Normally I'm not a huge fan of shingle cladding (I can't help but think of spiders??!) but this project might just convince me that they are a little bit allright! A relatively simple rectangular pitched roof structure is made spectacular with the screened porch which is sandwiched between the two cedar ends. ... 07.01.2022 #42daysoflockdownlife The 1960s house was originally designed by one of the first female graduates of architecture in New York, and then renovated by her own grandson 60 years later. 01.01.2022 #42daysoflockdownlife Located in Silicon Valley California, the Dawnridge House has been designed to split into two portions to wrap around existing oak trees, as well as follow the flow of the creek that flows through the site. We absolutley love the use of tonal timber, both the battened cladding which follows through into the interior, as well as the timber joinery, which adds to the simple calm palette....
