17.01.2022 That’s the question we get every day. So, here’s an update. Just like brewing a great beer, opening a Taproom also takes time and patience, and you need to allow for the occasional unexpected turn. We’ve had a bit of a hold-up in getting all the various permits and approvals we need before opening. Some aspects of our application need to go before the Moorabool Shire Council. This means we need to wait for the first council meeting of 2021, which is happening soon. ... It’s difficult to give an exact date at this point, but we are still working towards a late March opening. In the meantime, we are putting the finishing touches on our range of craft beers, and finalising the food menu. Stay tuned and keep up to date with our socials for more information on our opening soon! . #craftbeer #bacchusmarsh #taproom #taphouse #eatlocal #beer #visitvictoria #Supportlocal #goodbeer #goodfriends #goodtimes

12.01.2022 In an online survey of 17,000 craft beer drinkers in Australia, Pale Ale and Extra Pale Ale (XPA) were voted the most popular consumer style of craft beer in Australia. Not by much, mind you; Indian Pale Ale (see our previous post) was just four percentage points behind. A deep gold brew with an approachable hoppy-malty flavour and moderate in strength; it is easy to see why pale ales have become so popular. The original pale ales were created in England and rediscovered by t...he American craft beer scene. Today you'll find beers categorised as English, American, Belgian, Australian and of course Indian Pale Ales. The technical difference between pale ales and lagers is in the yeasts used in brewing. Pale Ales are made with top-fermenting yeast, while lagers and pilsners use bottom-fermenting yeasts. In the glass, pale ales are generally opaque or a little cloudy, while lagers are limpid and bright. In taste, pale ale has a more prominent hops and malt quality and tend to be more bitter than lagers. The origin of pale ale is linked to changes in industrial production that took place in England in the late 1700s. The introduction of coke, a derivative of coal, became the preferred fuel of the iron and steel. Before using coke, wood and peat fires were used to roast malt and barley, leaving it dark roasted or even scorched. It resulted in a smoky character and a brown colour. Coke, which burnt hot and steady, gave brewers the desired clear, amber or copper-coloured ale. The first known mention of the term "pale ale" was around 1703, and by the 1780s was in general use. By the early 1800s, pale ales were commonly referred to as "bitters." . #craftbeer #bacchusmarsh #taproom #taphouse #eatlocal #beer #visitvictoria #Supportlocal #goodbeer #goodfriends #goodtimes

11.01.2022 Competition Time ! We thought it would be fun to brew a special drop to mark our (forthcoming) opening. So we are teaming up with the clever lads, Chris & James, at On Point Brewery to make something special with our Bacchus Marsh strawberries. The On Point Brewery, based in Alexandra near Lake Eildon, is well known for their Cherry Porter, so they really know how to incorporate fruit flavours into beer. ... We've had an early tasting, and we've decided to go with a strawberry sour style. But, we haven’t decided on a name yet, and we’d love to hear your suggestions. Please leave you name ideas in the comments below. And if you see a suggested name that gets your vote, please give it a 'like'. Alternatively, you can email your name idea to [email protected] If we end up using your suggestion, you’ll score a 12 pack of the special brew and a $50 bar tab when we’re open. Cheers! . . #craftbeer #beer #bacchusmarsh #taproom #competition #prize #name #artisan #handcrafted #locallymade #clickforvic #madeinvictoria #microbrewery #onpointbrewery

04.01.2022 Styles of Pale Ale British Pale Ale The traditional British pale ale (or English-style pale ale) includes bitter and ESB ("extra special bitter") beers. It's a pleasant and understated beer with a malty profile, just enough woody or lightly floral hops for balance, and some fruity notes in the full body.... American Pale Ale The American pale ale (APA) emerged in the craft beer renaissance of the 1970 and 80s. Using the stronger-flavoured American cops and less malt resulted in a spicy brew with a medium body and citrus and tropical fruit accents. Belgian-Style Pale Ale The Belgian-style pale ales feature more caramel and toasted malt flavours. The hoppiness is noticeable but relatively mild. India Pale Ale India pale ales (IPAs) express a more assertive flavour of hops, bitterness, and alcohol content. See our previous post. Extra Pale Ale, (XPA) This style of ale was pioneered in the US but has gained momentum in Australia. Sitting somewhere between an American Pale Ale (APA) and India Pale Ale (IPA), it's a style that has captured the Australian consumer. XPA is generally lighter in colour than English pale ale with a hop-forward and less malt and less caramel in the flavour profile. The nose for XPA is usually a moderate to intense hop aroma with a citrusy character. Many independent Australian brewers are adopting the style and giving it their own something 'Extra'. . #craftbeer #bacchusmarsh #taproom #taphouse #eatlocal #beer #visitvictoria #Supportlocal #goodbeer #goodfriends #goodtimes
