25.01.2022 Programmed a remote to a 2010 Holden Barina today for a local car yard. If you have a fleet of vehicles or a high turn over of vehicles we offer discounts on multiple cars. We also are also avalible at all sorts of hours, we can work around you.
25.01.2022 Got asked to program a key to an Audi A6 2009. A unique immobiliser system seen on only a few vehicles exists on this car. Most locksmiths and car key guys can't do these or don't know how. These cars present a unique challenge due to the key requiring a unique set of data to be written to the transponder before the key can be coded to the car. Audi gets this data from their data base, as I'm not Audi I need to get this data another way.... The key data is stored in a module called the EZS, this module lives at the base of the steering column and also functions as the steering lock. The module removal process requires the steering column to be removed from the vehicle. With the EZS removed the module requires disassembling and a small memory device with a specialised programmer. Once the transponder is programmed the EZS is reinstalled and the car can start.
25.01.2022 Got asked to program a key for another business today. Old Honda CRV with a primitive immobiliser system. Which requires specialist knowledge and skills to get the key data.
23.01.2022 Had a customer this week with a 2010 Ford Focus XR5 push button start that needed new keys programmed. Customer supplied two genuine keys. The customer had two guys out previous to me, one said it will cost $1000, then couldn't get the car to work. The other guy told the customer he needed to get his ignition barrel fixed because it doesn't turn. Remember this is a push button start car. On the advice on the second guy the customer pulled the steering column apart to repair t...he ignition only to find there isn't a barrel to repair. Confused, the customer called me to repair the ignition. I attended site and said the the customer there is no ignition barrel to repair, because this is a push to start car. The customer then handed me his keys that the other two guys tried to program to the car. The keys were wrong and would never work. Told the customer to get some genuine keys from Ford. I attended the next day and had the car going in half an hour after a month long ordeal due to two 'car key expert's' being unsure of how the immobiliser system worked.
23.01.2022 A for you information post. I do Falcon and Territory ignition switch repairs for a competitive price, here's One more information about it. Lately I've been getting calls from people with BA/BF Falcons or SX/SY Territories saying either there key doesn't spring back or when they turn the key the car doesn't react (no dash lights or start). I see on forums, Facebook groups and even some other automotive professionals tell the customer their ignition barrel has failed and to g...et a new one, this is not the case. Or a favourite of mine, usually said by people who mean well but have no idea what they're talking about, the immobiliser has kicked in. The real cause for these problems is the switch has failed. The switch fails in two ways, one, the black switch cover falls off and all the wires and the copper switch plate fall out leading to the car not being able to react to the key. The other way the switch fails is when your key doesn't spring back when you turn it to start, this is caused by the post in the switch that the return spring sits on wears or breaks off, or, the spring itself snapping. There are four ways to fix this: Go to your nearest wrecker and buy a second hand steering column, a good short term solution but not recommended. Second hand parts are old and this being a very common fault will inevitably happen again. I had a customer once that used a second hand steering column only to have it fail a week later. Buy a whole new steering column from Ford, which is over $1000. Clearly not very affordable and to add to the pain Ford don't make the BA Falcon or SX Territory columns any more so Ford supply you with two different a different key for your ignition and you use your old key for the door. If the switch has fallen apart, you can wire in a start button, defiantly the cheapest way to sort out the switch issues. Cool option if you've always wanted a start button. This solution falls down when you have no idea how to do wiring. You will also need to put the key in the ignition barrel anyway to allow the car to read the transponder. The fourth option is a switch repair kit, the best option in terms of price and longevity. I sell and install these kits. They're high quality and I've never heard of one breaking. The way the kit works is you rebuild the switch itself, replacing all of the broken parts.
22.01.2022 A varied morning for one customer. Programmed a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder key a 2002 VX Commodore and a 1994 Ford Falcon with the old smart lock remote. Programming various makes and models to suit your needs.
22.01.2022 A customer unfortunately lost their only key to there Discovery 2. After being told by numerous locksmiths the dealer was the only option at nearly $700! I had the customer driving their car again for a fraction of the cost.
22.01.2022 Lost key BMW today, 2002 X5. BMWs use a system where if you need a key, the dealer doesn't program the key using a scan tool. The key gets ordered Germany cut and coded ready to start the vehicle. I'm told this process takes about 2-3 weeks. This customer was in a bit of a hurry so that wasn't an option. I picked open the car and decoded the door lock, cut a key and programmed the key.... To program a key to an early BMW you need to remove the security module called the EWS. Read the data and then program a key to the car. All onsite and the same day.
21.01.2022 A customer did the ring around and couldn't find anyone to program a new key to their 1998 Mercedes E240. I attended site and supplied, cut and programmed a new more modern key for less than the dealer.
21.01.2022 Love working on people's prude and joy. Spare key for this 1 of 1000 25th anniversary NC MX5
20.01.2022 Got a bit of a consumer FYI. I'm seeing a lot of customers use small OBD dongles such as the one pictured on their cars. These little dongles claim to do all sorts of things from better fuel economy to better performance all for a very low price. Whilst most people assume these devices are innocent enough and with a very low purchase price makes it worth the risk. Be careful.... I got given this by a friend to make a tool out of. I was disassembling the device and I found two pins shorting out by a poor quality soldering job. Thankfully one pin isn't actually connected to anything, but one is. The pin that is connected to the PCB is on the 12V pin of OBD ports. A short like this could sent 12V to a component that is designed to handle much less, causing a potential catastrophic failure of a component inside of an expensive module, such as an ECU which cost thousands of dollars. Moral of the story, don't risk your sensitive car electronics using cheap OBD devices.
20.01.2022 Got asked by a fellow locksmith to get the pin code for the immobiliser from a Great Wall because the dealer has the wrong pin. Read the data and supplied the code.
19.01.2022 Very curious job. A mechanic asked me to look at a faulty key on a 2009 E250 Mercedes-Benz. The customers fault was the car wouldn't react to the push but on start. I got to the car and sure enough no go. I inspected the key and found the key to be in perfect working order. I then removed the start button and tried turning the key in the ignition. Still no go, but I noticed a sound missing. ... The sound of the steering lock retracting. I proceeded to test a few more systems with my scan tool and found indeed the steering lock had failed. I rebuilt the steering lock using quality components, the motor inside the module had failed. Reinstalled the module back into the car and we have a fully functional car again! I can also code Mercedes-Benz keys and steering locks if required too.
19.01.2022 Worked on a unique car this morning. No tool supports programming a key through the OBD port so I had to convert the HEX file, into a key by manually decoding it.
18.01.2022 Remember everyone today is R U OK day. Reach out to everyone you know and love, you never know if what you say may change someone's life
18.01.2022 Had a customer that needed her car the next day. Dash out in the middle of the night to find the tiny immo box.
17.01.2022 A customer way out of the metro area had a no start VZ Commodore that a mechanic said the key was the issue. I tested the key and found the key fine, the no start issue was in fact caused by a faulty ECU. I programmed in a replacement ECU and away the car went.
17.01.2022 Interesting job today. A 1998 Mitsubishi Lancer with a second hand ignition fitted by the customer. The customer asked me to code the key. Mitsubishi vehicles are fitted with a lock out feature to stop theft which is activated by turning the car to the "ON" position 3 times. To add to the difficulty of this job I also had a fault code of no communication too the immobiliser box from the ECU. This could either have been the car in lock out mode or a wiring issue. ... I attempted to program the key using a scan tool as the dealer does, no communication. To solve this I removed the immobiliser box from the vehicle and work my EEPROM magic. The first job was to unlock the immobiliser box and then program the key. The key the customer had was an after market key which had a cheap transponder which had a really weak antenna, making starting hard. I replaced the transponder and programmed a new quality transponder to the immobiliser box. Allowing the car to start for the first time in months. YAY!
17.01.2022 Lost key Lexus IS250. Customer had a key stolen and after being quoted $6000 by Lexus and needing the car for a week. I was able to not only get the car going the same day, I rekeyed the drivers door lock and deleted the old keys
17.01.2022 Motorbike key coding. Lost key Yamaha 2014 MT07. I made a key and then had to program a key to the Moric 2 immo system. I read the antenna ring and virginised the ECU to suit the new master key I programmed. ... I can program all makes of motor bike keys from the Honda HISS, all the way to the BMW EWS system.
16.01.2022 Had a customer today with an amazing Lexus GS430, rare car here in Australia. Supplied and programmed a genuine new smart key to suit this VIP spec car.
16.01.2022 Interesting job the other day. Got a message from a customer with a 2006 Ford Territory saying his ICC unit (which is the main radio and air con panel in the car) had been recently replaced and ever since then the remotes didn't work. In an effort to help the customer I explained how to program remotes to the vehicle, the customer was unsuccessful. I also suggested taking the car back to the person who changed out the ICC but he said the remotes weren't working before touchin...g the car and you need a scan tool to code them. The remotes are coded by a manual procedure. I attended site to see if I could offer a solution. First thing to try was new batteries, didn't change anything. Next I tried recoding the remotes, the car went into programming mode but didn't react to the remotes. New batteries made no difference. Owning a Ford myself I attempted to code the customer remotes to my car, they went straight in. Knowing now the remotes are defiantly functional my attention turned to the car. Check the interior light, all good. Check all the doors are closed and lock unlock as per the button on the ICC, all fully functional. Fuses and fault codes are all fine. I decide it's got to be something to do with the ICC replacement. I pull the ICC forward and notice a plug just hanging not going into any where. Plug it in then do the remote procedure and presto! Fully functional remotes.
16.01.2022 Repair job for a key cutter on Friday, please look at more than price when deciding who is working on your car. Had a key cutter ring me and explain he was attempting to replace a lost key for a 2002 Hyundai Accent. He explained to me the car wouldn't start due to an aftermarket immobiliser and after attempting to program the key he could no longer communicate with the car. He had been trying to get the car going for multiple weeks now. I attended site to find a half removed ...aftermarket immobiliser and no immobiliser light on the dash (good indication of no module communication on this particular brand). Automotive wiring is usually best left to auto electricians but I this case I had to get the car to go. I started by removing the ECU and reading the data,I found the immobiliser data was damaged and needed to be repaired. After repairing the data I proceeded to program a key and went to test start the vehicle. The car did not crank, on this particular car it should crank even with an unprogrammed key as the immobiliser controls spark. I repaired the under dash wiring and had the car going.
16.01.2022 Programmed a key to a cool car toady, a late model 300C. One VIP level car. The customer had their remote stolen so I deleted the old remote and reprogrammed their old one
16.01.2022 Just completed my tenth BA/ BF Falcon and SX/ SY Territory ignition switch this morning. Mobile service at a competitive price and a three year warranty.
15.01.2022 A customer if mine was trying to program a key to a late model BMW and during programming the CAS unit itself corrupted, rendering the car completely useless. I rushed out and removed the dash to access the damaged module. I modified the data stored in the module to allow the vehicle to be fully functional. The car was going again the same day.
15.01.2022 Had a customer with a lost Suzuki motorbike key. This is a complex job that few would take on. I had the bike going the same week!
15.01.2022 Had a job to program a spare key for a early 2000s Mercedes Benz. To get the key data I had to pull apart the customers key and read the data from the MCU on the key. I then read the data from the EIS ( electronic ignition switch ) on the bench. I then programmed in a new much more modern key.
13.01.2022 Was making a key to a D22 Navara today and came across something different and why you should use trade qualified locksmiths not YouTube qualified. I made a key to the ignition which worked every lock except the drivers door. Thinking possibly the door may have been different I pulled it out and inspected the lock. Upon inspection I found the key wasn't going in the was and was obstructed by something. I disassembled the lock and found a stick in the back of the lock.... Stick removed key worked!
13.01.2022 After an attempted theft of a Honda motorbike the ignition didn't turn any more. A new ignition with a switch was going to cost over $700. I pulled the ignition apart and repaired the barrel.
12.01.2022 Must be something about Monday's. Been busy programming modules to various cars. Replaced a faulty BCM in a VY Commodore, programmed a new audio unit (ICC) to a BF Falcon, a new ECU in to BA Falcon and changed the VIN on an TS Astra annenta ring for a local mechanic.
12.01.2022 Huge job, spare key for an Audi Q7. Pull steering column to remove the EZS and program key on the bench.
12.01.2022 Had a customer with a broken Ford steering column. I was the third person to attempt a repair on this car, first was a mechanic and the second was the cousin. A broken spindle between the ignition barrel and the switch warranted a full steering column replacement with a new switch fitted. Two photos show how I approached the car. No barrel, wires cut and a dead locked column. New column and all new wiring with a barrel making for one function Falcon!
11.01.2022 Customer had an early Commodore where the key didn't turn in the drivers door. Normally this is just a seized lock due to lack of use, but in this case the door lock was on a different key. I rekeyed the door to match the customers key and whilst I was there I replaced both remote heads with genuine parts.
10.01.2022 Did you know we fix what your boyfriend/husband "fixes". Here is a dodgy Holden Commodore switch replacement, ignition barrel replacement and key battery replacement. The boyfriend for whatever reason drilled out the fixing screw for the switch, hence the replacement screw. I replaced the switch and barrel using genuine parts and coded a new genuine key.... Fix it once, fix it right!
10.01.2022 Had two customers this week with older British MGs that needed new remotes. Unfortunately for them the said dealer can't program these anymore. I was able to supply and code new remotes at the customers house.... Old rare cool cars.
10.01.2022 Got a call from a customer with a Yamaha R1 who has had his ECU stolen. Yamaha said the keys and antenna ring will need to be replaced and a new ECU ordered, costing thousands of dollars and a long wait due to the time of year. I was asked if I can do the job. The customer dropped a second hand ECU off to me. I reset the ECU to accept new coding and had the customer going the next day.
09.01.2022 I was a one stop shop for a customer today. Customer changed the radio in their 2004 Ford Falcon and needed to get the unit coded, which requires a scan tool on these models. Having also lost their second key over the weekend and a spare was required also.... I went to the customers house to program the radio and provid a properly programmed key, not cloned. All done in less than half an hour at a competitive price.
09.01.2022 A customer called 10 different people who said they can't do a 2000 Mercedes Vito. I had the car going the next day.
09.01.2022 Don't do this, call a locksmith. This particular door is now bent and will need straightening.
09.01.2022 Something a bit different, making keys to an old Nissan. It's not just late models we do
09.01.2022 Helped recover a stolen VE Commodore. I made a key for the lock. Deleted all the old keys and deleted all the old remotes. The customer can now drive their car without worrying about the theif coming back and sterling the car again.
08.01.2022 Lost key BMW E90 made the safe way. Replaced a lost slot key for a 2006 BMW E90 the other day. The way BMW makes keys to these cars is they order and the key comes programmed ready to go. I'm not BMW and the customer needed the car quickly. I pulled out the CAS module and programmed the key. ... Most programmers will do this job through the OBD port, I prefer to do these on the bench. Why? When you program BMWs through the OBD port what the programmer forces the car to do is display key data streams. This is a function the car was never designed to do. With out proper precautions there is a major chance of damaging the CAS, costing thousands to repair. I pull the CAS to extract the data without the risk. With the key data I write the new key into an existing slot. Two reasons. One, this was a lost key bot stolen, I want the customer to be able to use their lost key if the find it. Two, if this car ever has a key ordered for it from BMW and I write my key into the next slot the dealer key won't work, costing the customer more money. I never put customers cars at risk when programming keys or modules just to save me money or time. Your cars safety is my priority.
08.01.2022 I'm back... Replaced a Lexus IS250 smart ECU after the previous one got water damaged. Saving the customer thousands in the process!
08.01.2022 Spare key for less then half the cost if the dealer for a Landrover Discovery 3. Cut and programmed at the customers house.
08.01.2022 Another day, another Lexus. This LS430 needed it's keys reprogrammed. Fancy car, with a unique slot key.
06.01.2022 Got hand balled a job from a fellow locksmith, 2011 Geely MK lost key. In my research for this job I found out John Hughes were the dealer here in Perth and Geeky, outside if WA, is extremely rare. No matter who I asked no one had an idea how to program the key. I attended site and after investigating the way way the cars security system was set up and appeared to function I figured out how to code the key.... As far as I'm aware I'm one of the first to successfully do this job
06.01.2022 Repaired a Honda ignition that someone had attempted to repair previously. The photo in the left is how I walked up to the car. The shroud around the steering column was removed, the ignition switch was off and the key didn't turn. I removed the ignition barrel and found there was a previous attempt to repair the ignition and the ignition was assembled incorrectly. I assembled the ignition correctly and cleaned up the previous repair attempt so all you have to do is turn the key and away you go! Note: The pry marks on the shroud were already there.
04.01.2022 I can now code used VE Commodore and BCMs, Including VIN matching. Supposedly the dealer say you can't re-use old BCMs as they VIN lock. Not anymore...
04.01.2022 An unlucky customer had their key stolen for a VX Commodore. I supplied and coded a new BCM and two new genuine key heads. I also rekeyed the door and the ignition to a new key. All onsite and all the same day
04.01.2022 Had a customer that didn't want to wait the 4-6 weeks for a replacement key for their 2006 Mercedes AMG CLS55 after having the key stolen. I was able to get the customer going again with two keys for the same price as one from the dealer and the same day service.
03.01.2022 Lost key Mercedes Benz ML320. Bit of a unique car. Not many of these around and on its own unique immo system. I was required to pull the security module and was desolder the MCU to read the data. Not many locksmiths would take this job on. I'll do any job no matter how hard.
02.01.2022 Mechanic attempted to do lost keys on a push button Toyota. I came around and sorted out the issues and had the car running in no time!
02.01.2022 Some poor dude with a Jeep Wrangler was out on the trails for a camp. Went to start his car and suddenly no crank just a flashing immo light. He had suffered from a failed key reader or SKIM. Being in a difficult spot to get too, attending the vehicle itself wasn't an option. To top it all off no wrecker or dealer had any stock of the right module to replace the broken one.... I was called and I cloned his old module onto a second hand module I made from two incorrect modules. The customer plugged in my module and the Jeep was off again! All done in one Saturday.
01.01.2022 Must be Mercedes week. Spare key for a very nice ML500. Customer requested a high quality product which I delivered.
