24.01.2022 Dog Poisoned by the Diffuser Saturday night I got home late and my dog didn't recognize me. Being a nanny I thought I woke him up and he was having a night terr...or. Sunday, he was still acting weird. I realized that I had been running my new diffuser and decided to turn it off. Sunday afternoon, he was feeling better. Today at work, my dog sitter said that he wouldn't come out from under the bed. It was very odd as he is a happy dog. I came from work early and again, he was very confused about who I was. So I took him to emergency vet. It turns out that the tea tree oil I was using in the diffuser is toxic for dogs. Thankfully the test showed that his liver was ok but we weren't out of the woods yet. He was given fluids under his skin to get the toxins out. The vet and the poison control are saying that they see these cases often now that the popularity of essential oil is growing. Please make sure that the essential oils you are burning are not toxic for your pets. Here is a list of essential oils not to use if you have a dog at home Anise (Pimpinella anisum) Birch (Betula) Bitter Almond (Prunus dulcis) Boldo (Peumus boldus) Calamus (Acorus calamus) Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora) Cassia (Cassia fistula) Chenopodium (Chenopodium album) Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) Garlic (Allium sativum) Goosefoot (Chenopodium murale) Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana) Hyssop (Hyssopus sp. with the exception of Decumbens) Juniper (Juniperus sp. with the exception of Juniper Berry) Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) Mustard (Brassica juncea) Oregano (Origanum vulgare) Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) Red or White Thyme Rue (Ruta graveolens) Santolina (Santolina chamaecyparissus) Sassafras (Sassafras albidum) Savory (Satureja) Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) Terebinth (Pistacia palaestina) Thuja (Thuja occidentalis) Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) Please share this story as it may save someones precious furry family member!
22.01.2022 Did you know garlic is a fabulous prebiotic (it feeds your microbiome) Crushing or chopping garlic & onion releases an enzyme called alliinase that catalyses the formation of allicin from S-allyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide (Allin). Allicin rapidly breaks down to form a variety of organosulfur compounds. Numerous studies have shown that organosulfur compounds from garlic could exert antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, and cardioprotective activities.... Garlic also has potent antibiotic activity, which is why it is perfect to up your intake in the cold/flu season Garlic has a higher amount of these beneficial compounds but both onions & garlic make the ideal anti-ageing food... . . . . . . . . . . .#newcastle #newcastlensw #newcastlelifestyle #newcastlenutritionist #newcastlehealth #nutrition #nutritionist #naturopath #naturopathy #herbalist #antiageing #antiageingpractitioner #longevity #paleo #primal #naturalhealth #wellness #healthyliving #stress #anxiety #hunterhunter #hunterlifestyle #fitspo #newyisok #paleo #wholefood #superfood #naturalbeauty #liverhealth #weightloss . 18.01.2022 The lymphatic system, often the most neglected, but one of the most important parts of our immunity & detoxification processes. The lymphatic system is known as the SEWER SYSTEM of the body. It responsible for transporting waste out of the body and for a healthy immune system. It also plays an important role in FAT LOSS. ... A healthy immune system is essential for healthy ageing. Physical inactivity, poor muscle tone, fat & poor circulation can all reduce the ability of lymph to flow freely around the body. Dry body brushing pushes on the delicate lymph vessels pushing lymph fluid up into the lymph nodes, allowing for proper excretion of waste. It also improves all over circulation and skin health, reduces the appearance of cellulite and aids in the reduction of swelling and bloating. It also makes your skin feel incredibly soft. Lymphatic health is something we focus on in my 8 week program The Longevity Reset. The program includes the INCREDIBLE Lymfatics glove kit (1000 times better than dry body brushing), to super charge lymph health and fat loss. The next round of my 8 week total health overhaul program The Longevity Reset starts Feb 2021. I now have a waiting list due to high demand and limited spaces. Jump in the link in my bio to join my waitlist. It is first in best dressed once the next round opens! . . . . . . . #naturopath #wellness #guthealth #newcastle #newcastlensw #newcastlenaturopath #newcastlenutritionist #nutritionist #functionalnutrition #digestion #fermentedfoods #happyhormones #moodfoods #foodporn #longevity #antiageing #beautyfoods #keto #paleo #lowcarb #healthyliving #wholefoods See more

15.01.2022 Did you know Magnesium deficiency is one of THE MOST COMMON NUTRITIONAL deficiencies! An essential mineral responsible for over 300 different enzyme functions in the body Many chemical reactions in the cell cannot take place without magnesium... Symptoms of magnesium deficiency: -Frequent tension headaches -Anxiety -Fatigue -Issues falling & staying asleep -Muscle twitching & cramps -Irregular heartbeat -Tight muscles 60% of magnesium is stored in the bone and plays a key role in bone metabolism. Even a mild ongoing magnesium deficiency can lead to a significant amount of bone loss. My favourite MAGNESIUM RICH FOODS: Green leafy veg Nuts & Seeds (especially chia & hemp) Beans & Legumes Dairy products Dried figs Avocados Guavas, bananas Kiwi fruit Papayas Blackberries Raspberries Grapefruit Epsom salt baths are also a great way to support healthy magnesium levels. Supplementation is also recommended for many people BUT NOT ALL MAGNESIUM SUPPLEMENTS are created EQUAL. Disclaimer! I always recommend topping up nutrients with real whole foods first. If you want to supplement I only recommend doing so with the help of a nutritionist or naturopath Just because supplements are natural doesn't mean they are safe, many have contraindications with medications and health disorders. . . . . . . . #naturopath #wellness #guthealth #newcastle #newcastlensw #newcastlenaturopath #newcastlenutritionist #nutritionist #functionalnutrition #digestion #fermentedfoods #happyhormones #moodfoods #foodporn #longevity #antiageing #beautyfoods #keto #paleo #lowcarb #healthyliving #wholefoods See more

03.01.2022 Sage: The Herb of Thanksgiving. Ever wonder why we put sage in stuffing? Today we understand that sage is an antibacterial herb. Our ancestors also knew that... to insure food safety, it was best to add an abundance of sage to the stuffing or 'belly pudding', and rub the bird inside and out with salt before filling the cavity (where we know today bacteria is most likely to form). Scientific studies can now help us understand why many of our 'classic flavor combinations', demonstrate that our ancestors knew a great deal about preserving food, food quality and health - leading to the old adage that 'The cook is half a physician'. Sage is also synonymous with wisdom. In fact, it might be said that many an 'old sage' gained her wisdom from the use of sage. "As far back as 1597, herbalist John Gerard wrote that sage was 'singularly good for the head and brain and quickeneth the nerves and memory.' Half a century later, Nicholas Culpeper, claimed the herb 'heals the memory, warming and quickening the senses". The Latin name for Sage is Salvia which translates to "Life"...so add some life to your holiday foods this season with Salvia officinalis or our common perennial garden sage! *(I also just made a great batch of cornmeal, apricot, sage cookies, and a pot of sage tea to ring in the beginning of the baking season). What is your favorite way to use sage? Happy Thanksgiving from The Heirloom Gardener - John Forti #Thanksgiving #sagestuffing #sage #salvia #Thanksgivingstuffing See more
