23.01.2022 A TLG Christmas Message: 2019 has been a wonderful year for us at The Long Gallery. This year has seen a lovely consolidation of the family. Melody volunteered with us during her counselling internship, Katharine joined us early in the year, Phil joined us in August, Sarah joined the admin team and Rachel shared with us the exciting news that will see the first TLG Baby joining us in 2020! 2019 was also exciting times for Mary who has now established her own practice in St... Lucia (Go Mary!) We all appreciate the contributions of those who have shared this space before us and we all take a moment to appreciate the lives of those we support. Debra, Vanessa, Anna, Mandy, Yumi, Michael, Denzil, Leanne, Maria, Haydie, Jade, Melody, Rachel, Katharine, Phil, all the Moggill Community Gardeners and of course Benny, our favourite receptionist, have all inspired the spirit of The Long Gallery and made it what it is today. We all recognise how lucky we are to be part of our client’s journey. The statistics tell us that in any one year as many as 25% of the population are suffering from distress that has a significant and ongoing impact on their functioning, yet only 7% of the population access support. If you think about it, our clients are the brave and courageous few that are not only changing their own lives, they are the hopeful few who are taking steps to, in small and big ways, make the world a better place. Being a part of these changes brings us great purpose. Working with the brave and helping people build connection, sooth suffering and fully experience joy and prosperity we are truly blessed. Thank you also to our professional supervisors who stand beside us as we make these important meanings of this work and of course, a special thank you must be extended to our families who continue to encourage us every day despite the many early morning departures and late-night returns. We know Christmas is not an easy time for many families. For many, it’s a reminder of dreams unfulfilled, the sadness of disconnection and the frustration of being pulled in so many directions. If that’s you, we send a message to the universe that you find the connection that soothes you most. Be it connection with loved ones, the animals that inhabit your life, a special place or just the landscape - we hope that its beauty fills your senses. Merry Christmas Everyone and bring on the new Decade! Smiles, James

17.01.2022 Nature is an incredible phenomena... this precious pea was given to us by one of our clients. It sat on our window sill for a week in it’s black plastic pot... Bathed in winter sun and water it was content enough. But restricted by it’s environment it stood still. Until another client of ours, who would appreciate being connected to something living, joined in the repotting. Within a day this little pea was transformed. Like a prisoner released, it leaped out of the ground ...and started reaching for the sun and something to hold. Such a tremendous metaphor for life. With freedom, good soil nurturing and solid support people, as do peas, will likely reach out instinctively as they search for the source of life. And that alone will make them gorgeous... weather they bear fruit or not they have contributed. Their striving alone has been a thing beauty something to admire and be thankful for. Thank you J for your inspirational TLG gift. And thank you A for helping us give it what it needed to really take off. See more

13.01.2022 We are so excited to announce the arrival of Philip Garlick -the Long Gallery Psychologist’s newest team member. You can check out the link below to read a bit more about Phil but let me welcome him to the community by saying this... Phil, welcome aboard mate... Rachel, Katharine, Mary and I are just so happy that you are joining us. Your warmth, kindness and good humour will a perfect fit and we wish you a smooth transition from your valuable work within the prison system.... This community and the surrounding suburbs are filled with wonderful people with human struggles just like the rest of us and at the same time they are also full of hope and most often have tremendous support. We find it an absolute pleasure to work here in this community and we know you will love it too. In celebration of Phil’s joining us, we welcome this opportunity to support those community members who, for financial reasons, may not have otherwise sought support. So for the next 6 months Phil will be bulk-billing 50% of his workload. Also, for anyone with a military history and is experiencing difficulty with anxiety, depression or relationships then Phil, who has served in the Middle East as a soldier, has a unique insight into military life, the challenges that come with that but also the wonderful bits too. Thanks everyone... Phil will be ready to see folks in a couple of weeks - More to come!
