25.01.2022 I caught up with Stuart from United Fire and they are definitely... Open for Business They are specialists in the design, construction and maintenance of fire services for new builds, to the large commercial and building industry.... With his dad and 3 uncles in the industry it was no surprise that Stuart took that road 27yrs ago (after a 3-day career as a mechanic that is....) After working on big government projects and high rises (like Barangaroo) he decided to take the next step and start his own thing, free from corporate restraints, 8yrs ago. In the last 6mths they've incorporated staggered shifts and social distancing on-site but in general, their side of construction has seen little impact through Covid, which is great! Stuart is most proud of seeing the progression of the young guys and being able to provide a supportive environment that allows that to happen. Inside info: United is the "Uniting" of Intense Fire (his original business) and Prime Fire (his partner Paul’s) a few years ago. I also found out how his skateboarding antics got him on TV with Bob Carr and why Gerry Harvey called 2GB to say "I agree with Stu" (but you'll have to ask him about that yourself). 24.01.2022 I caught up with Kylie & Sam from Outside Indulgence and they are definitely... Open for Business They are a bespoke, high-end residential landscape company who help home owners to better their lifestyles. They handle everything from design and construction to installation. ... Sam always had a vision of creating resort style landscapes in backyards and so followed that straight out of school 25yrs ago into a large company. After 20 yrs advancing through the ranks he decided the next challenge was to put his own stamp on the world. At the same time Kylie was frustrated with her city commute to her accountancy firm. So 5yrs ago, along with deciding to start a family, they also decided to start a business! They started the year strong and have found that with travel restricted and more people at home that the desire for a great outdoor space has increased. Sam has recently obtained Pool licencing which has further broadened their offerings. What they are most proud of is being able to employ locals and especially watching them grow and develop their skills over time. They have some pretty big plans (like huge!) but we have to keep that under wraps at the moment, stay tuned... Inside info: The name came from a brainstorming session and was the one that best described their vision for clients to indulge outside. 24.01.2022 Business Feature - Ross from Stimulate Accounting There are 3 arms to the business, helping small to medium businesses with accounting, strategy and budgeting, handling SMSF matters and also providing individual tax returns. Ross has been in the industry since 2005 after a traineeship came up and he took it. He then eventually became a partner in a local firm.... When a desire for more family time and the demands of a young family came calling he decided to choose his own path and start his own firm in 2020! The business has been growing steadily over the year and they have adapted easily to virtual consults when desired. Ross is most proud of the great service and high level of responsiveness he provides and loves fixing client problems, sometimes even before they eventuate! 23.01.2022 I caught up with Emma from Macfarlane Law and the firm is definitely... Open for Business As a commercial litigation accredited specialist, the focus is on servicing personal clients, SME's and their teams. Whilst studying a Business/Law degree Emma started a clerkship in 2004 and loved it!... With an entrepreneurial spirit she had always wanted to steer her own ship with a brand that was authentically hers and so did a couple of weeks ago (yes weeks!) The offering has moved away from the traditional 6min increment charges to a value aligned model which, along with a service guarantee, gives clients certainty around cost of service. A favourite mantra is to "always stick up for what you believe in" and that is the goal, every day. Emma is most proud of the network she has established and the support she has received during her transition, even from within the industry. Future plans are simply to be the best in the area not the biggest but definitely the best! 21.01.2022 Business Feature - Rebecca (+ Brad & Russell) from Hi-Range Crane Forks They help Tier 1 and 2 contractors complete their projects such as supplying hi-rail crane equipment to the rail industry. The business was started by Rebecca's dad Rennie in 1987 as a sideline to Macarthur Bricklaying who required portable cranes to load bricks and so brought in Australia's 1st MAU - Manitou to do that. ... Rebecca left a real estate career in 2008 to step in, take over and take the business to the next level. 12yrs on and she has never had a day where she didn't want to come to work, every day is different and always a challenge! This year started well, there is a little less face to face at the moment but they have continued to grow and have recently added new EWP's and larger Manitou’s to the fleet to handle heavier loads. Rebecca is most proud of her amazing team which include "the best operators and support team in the industry" and a number of long term staff some spanning 30yrs! Future plans are to continue to grow the fleet, team and expansion into other states. Inside info: The name reflects their 2 competitive advantages height & range. I also found out that you'll often see them in the background on the news and documentary's whenever there are features on tunnels or rail works (so keep an eye out..) 17.01.2022 Business Feature - Chris from PharmacyMart They are the "pharmacy part of the local health care team, working in conjunction with allied health to provide a holistic approach to the local communities health needs. Chris did Yr 10 work experience in Pharmacy when he was 15 and hasn't stopped since!... With a 99.6 UAI he had vast careers choices but loved the mixture of medical and business that pharmacy provided, so stuck with it! Graduating with honours he was offered state sales role but decided to buy his first pharmacy instead 2 yrs later in 2008. Gregory Hills opened 3yrs ago! It's been an interesting start to the year with lockdowns, panic buying, confusion and supply shortages so he is glad to see things have settled down again. Chris is proud of being able to apply his academic and entrepreneurial skills in a way that benefits the local community and his well-trained and experienced team that deliver that! Future plans include growing the brand as the local community grows continuing to serve them and other local communities like them. Inside info: The name was chosen to convey they are a one-stop health shop. Also Chris is a Liverpool FC tragic and has the Liver Bird logo and "You'll never walk alone" on loop more than once in his pharmacies! 12.01.2022 Business Feature - Rick, Justin & Ben (Jamin for short ) from Eagle Build They are domestic builders helping home owners with renovations, additions and custom built homes. Their speciality is ensuring additions don't look like additions but like part of the original house. Rick started in the industry 42yrs ago simply because he loved the outdoors and working with his hands. Once his apprenticeship was done he started as a sole trader.... Son Ben joined the business 10yrs ago and Justin joined 7yrs ago after realising the mechanical trade wasn't for him but the diversity and variety of the building game was. The family business then moved to a company in 2017 to facilitate growth, transition and the continuation of Rick's legacy. They took the opportunity when Covid hit to work own their own family home builds and renovations but it wasn't long before the phone started ringing again and they were straight back into it! Rick is most proud of building a business that allows his family to work and grow together and that extends to their staff as well. Justin added that having customers from 1992 still choosing to use them is also a great testament. Future plans include Rick winding down and the boys ramping the business up! 11.01.2022 I caught up with Gary iPrint Corporate Media and they are definitely... Open for Business They supply everything in printing and signage. Promotional items, embroidery, business cards or complex shop signage for small business or large corporations.... Gary has been in the industry for 44yrs and got started straight out of school through a neighbour. After moving through to sales it seemed inevitable that he would start his own business and did 31yrs ago! (and they still have some customers 30yrs on!) The year has been steady and they have expanded their access to digital in line with the market over the last 6mths. I got a sneak peak behind the new branding which incorporates their history and innovativeness. Gary is most proud of the reputation he has built over 30yrs and his mantra of always paying on time! Future plans include expanding their corporate customer base, expanding their digital expertise and working smarter. Inside info: The name came to Gary simply when he was looking at his iPhone and thought, that's what I do "I Print", and just minutes later had it all locked away. 09.01.2022 I caught up with Andrew from Integritas Digital Australia and they are definitely... Open for Business They help any business that needs a digital transformation to innovate or re-invigorate their digital frontier!... Andrew has been in the industry for 10yrs and moved across from hospitality because he was "sick of washing dishes" and "receiving feedback" over the intricacies of cooking schnitzels! 4yrs ago he decided it was time start something for himself and take charge of his future! This year they have grown to servicing some large complex clients and the team is now 5! The last 6mths has been largely focused on quality assurance and doing their part to help the world in the big shift to get on-line fast. Andrew is most proud of how hard they work for their clients. Small or large doesn't matter their work ethic is the same. Future plans include continuing to help businesses unlocking their key to growth and there are some exciting growth plans in the wings themselves too! Flavour changes, form modification or simply creating a medication that is out of stock in the local chemist. There is more than 100yrs combined experience in the team and they started the business 3yrs ago after realising that loca...ls had to travel up to an hour for their custom medication. They are 1 of only a dozen dedicated compounding chemists in Australia, they are all uni mates and their partners are also pharmacists too! They've grown every year since opening and have built good relationships with local doctors looking for alternatives to standard packaged medications. This year has seen the inclusion of delivery services, skin care and even their own hand sanitiser using Australian Myrtle. What they are collectively most proud of is finding a need in the community and then building a business from scratch to one that receives compliments and feedback every day from their 900 customers. They also love that its a return to the traditional role of a pharmacist. Future plans are BIG! And include introduction of sleep apnoea, weight loss, DNA testing, Nutraceuticals, web site revamp, a shop fit and even TGA approved manufacturing! Nardeen is especially excited about their new skin care products and consultation service, once again tailored to the individual. 01.01.2022 I caught up with the passionate Ramez from Medicines R Us Chemist Gregory Hills and they are definitely... Open for Business They provide medication and advice on a personalised basis to the local community and patrons of the medical centre and shopping centre and their families, 7-10pm. Ramez got started in pharmacy 31yrs ago when he started as a Yr9 casual at Glenfield Pharmacy. Both his dad and uncle were pharmacists in the local area at the time. ... Ramez took the plunge into ownership 17yrs ago as a partner in his dad's second pharmacy and now have 5 in their independently owned group. The last 3yrs has seen a focus on digital integration and automation to enable them to increase customer interaction in-store and grow their brand. Store layout, on-line store, compounding, weight loss, sleep apnoea and a nutritional focus are all new additions to their already wide range. Ramez is most proud of his great staff who are empowered and trusted to look after patrons so he and wife Lisa can concentrate on growth. (I met MaryAnn and Paula who are glowing examples!) Inside info: Their logo is a pharmacist and patient holding hands which cleverly represents how they approach patient health. I also found out that Ramez is a YouTube tragic and is famous for his inspirational WhatsApp videos to staff!
